Pipers – GarstangTried the Sparling for the first time since re-opening today (26th June 2011). My wife and I used to quite like the old Sparling not withstanding its faults (service wasn't always great) so were looking forward to our Sunday dining experience. In summary everything was ok but that was it. It would appear that the food, décor and atmosphere has changed for the worse. Most of the restaurant has been retained but where it has been changed it is not for the better. Cheap melamine tables and what was a great seating area has gone. I even noticed some of the fitting in the gents had been replaced with some cheap B&Q specials. The food was more pub grub than gastropub. Large portions don't make a meal for me. The soup looked suspiciously like a famous branded tomato favourite. Everything was OK but that was it. I just felt the place had been cheapened somewhat.
The Sparling Barton – GarstangFood was delicious and the wine was lovely. Service was excellent. The starter menu is restricted though with few vegetarian options - apart from this it was a super meal. The pizza menu could do with a more adventurous vegetarian pizza also, maybe with goats cheese. I'd recommend this restaurant.
Da Carmelo – Garstangtry the popcorn chicken. beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Turners Traditional Fish and Chips – GarstangMy girlfriend and I went to piper's again last Saturday night for her birthday and had yet another excellent meal. We went as a party of four on Mother's Day and this to was excellent, I can't praise this restaurant enough, the staff are very polite and professional and the service is always spot on. I've been to Marco P White's (The Swan) and was very disappointed and I've been to the revolving restaurant in time square, New York and I've got to be honest with you, the steak there was to die for. But I've got to now say that piper's has the slight edge over New York. I had the pleasure of meeting Ian Piper on Mother's Day and thanking him for our wonderful experience. We have also booked for Father's Day next week, so I can't wait.
Pipers – GarstangWe are from Wigan and have recommended this restaurant to everybody the food was fantastic the service was excellent and value for money couldn't fault it!
The Sparling Barton – GarstangJust been for dinner for two. Excellent food and great value - the best steaks we have had for many a year. The rest was wonderful too - thanks very much
The Grapes at St Michaels – GarstangReviews on here somewhat out of date as this is no longer a Tapas Restaurant. It is, however, a superb cafe, our favourite in the whole area. There is a lovely atmosphere, the friendliest of owners, the food is lovely and beautifully presented. Our three year old always looks thrilled if we mention going to Zumo. There is also a superb crazy golf course on site to keep the children entertained. Highly recommended.
Zumo Cafe – GarstangEXCELLENT!!!!! We went today for lunch, and I can honestly say that it is the best pub food we've had for a long time! The pate was beautiful, the garlic mushrooms to die for, and the mixed grill HUGE! Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, good beer - highly recommended to anyone!!
The Grapes at St Michaels – GarstangWe have had numerous stays at the Royal Oak over the last 15 years. Lorraine and her staff have always been so welcoming. The food is always locally produced, and never let's them down. Our favorite are there unbeatable garlic mushroom's, homemade pate and specials board. What brings us back time and time again is the amazing breakfast. I defy anyone to beat the hospitality, excellent food, guest beers and of course the price. Give it a go you will not be disappointed...Look out for our name in the guest book!!!!!
Royal Oak Hotel – GarstangExcellent - the food and wine are of the highest quality. Plenty of choice a family favourite would recommend to anyone
Da Carmelo – GarstangWot a fantastic place. Loved our first visit. Its definitely on our favourite list.
Owd Nell’s Tavern – GarstangA very friendly place and excellent food. We especially like the wide selection of vegetables. The meat and fish are very good quality and cooked to perfection. Our grandchildren love eating there!
Da Carmelo – GarstangWe have a caravan nearby and love this little cafe. We cant tell which is best, the food or the service but both are superb, Avis the lady who owns and runs the shop is kindness itself, my husband enjoyed the big fresh cream eclair she gave him free of charge , because no one else would have a pudding with him, last time we were in. Try it its the best.
The Coffee Pot – GarstangBeen here lots of times, very nice food, venue and location !
Th’Owd Tithe Barn – Garstangthis is the best fish and chip shop ever. the staff is out of this world especially the new very young one. infinity out of 10. superb
Turners Traditional Fish and Chips – GarstangWhat a shocking waste of time and money and a total disappointment that was. It was 55 minutes from our order being taken until the food came. Then it came in dribs and drabs so that the first to be served had finished eating when the last of us got our food. I then had a further wait for my chips that was so long I had eaten the rarebit they were ordered to go with by the time they showed up so I no longer wanted them. The rarebit was actually grey in colour, cold and tasted of nothing I couldn't have a pint of juice because they didn't have enough big glasses Seriously spend your hard earned cash somewhere else!
Zumo Cafe – GarstangLovely romantic place to take the Mrs and the kids for somewhere to eat. Food great with a nice twist to a classic such as a burger.....going again soon
