My wife and I had been at a garden centre and decided to have a late Saturday lunch. We might ordinarily have gone to the Punchbowl but decided to try the Horns Inn as we hadn't been for years. What a mistake! The staff had suspended the normal Saturday lunch menu and had a shorter but far more expensive menu from which to choose - not for what we wanted but I guess as there was a festival going on in the village they had seen the chance to make a few pounds extra by getting additional punters to buy into a menu different from that advertised on the website. Nothing went well, my wife's risotto was heavy and accompanied by what looked like slabs of Tesco Value garlic bread and which tasted like cardboard. The taste of my sausage and mash was OK but it was just a taste as portions were awful and not even enlivened by a vegetable. Paying over the top for substandard fare isn't the way forward. However, I certainly won't be going back there so problem solved. Oh! When staff training comes around ensure that you don't only tell your staff to ask if the meal is alright on a regular basis but tell them that they should actually want to hear the answer and when they do hear that people haven't had a great dining experience to do something more constructive than 'Oh, sorry to hear that!'

After a lovely weekend away with my friend we stopped on the way home for our evening meal , as it had been some time since my last visit I was excited to see the new refurbishments. The decor 'Beautiful and inspiring, with gentle, calming music and atmosphere, Food disappointingly and embarrassingly terrible....with high expectations reflected in prices I didn't know where to look when my friends 12oz Gammon steak with trimmings arrived ! Pinapple- tinned, Egg-uncooked, Chips-Scrag ends all of different colours which tells you only one thing ! there's none left !! Peas-frozen, portion sized in a butter dish ! Gammon- Fatty and tough.I brought my concerns to the young, student type waitress who simply said 'sorry' who then sent another waitress to tell us that she was replacing the chips with a large portion of skinny fries, as predicted ! they had RUN......out of CHIPS !!!! to our disbelief when the new offering arrived they had simply taken half of the scrag end away and placed a Few !!!! skinny chips on top !!!!!OMG !!!! Thankfully my prawn cocktail was simply just OK , but then again where can this go wrong !!!P.S Dont have the onion rings-oozing grease !Sorry 'Horns Inn' you've a long way to go !!

Thank you Alison for your reply. Time has passed, and I think your post shows that the day my family visited was an "off day". Please note that my daughter and family have returned and enjoyed their visit. You obviously do care, and care deeply, so keep up your good work, and thanks again for taking so much notice of one bad day a time ago..

Went to the New Holly for our annual line dancing day out ,there was 47 of us. It was recommended by a friend ,we visited it before our trip and were impressed, so returned as a group and dined. Great food, well presented and brilliant service. We spoke to the most accommodating and friendly gentleman Paul, who was the manager. He listened carefully to our requests and consulted with his chef and staff to come up with 3 mains and desserts to offer our ladies. They were varied and all of them were delicious. We were served in good time, the service was amazing, the staff were helpful and polite, the food was delicious and the whole afternoon was a success. We can highly recommend it, it was wonderful.

The reason I like to go there for lunch, is the fantastic Roast Beef Sandwiches. If you like RARE cold Beef, this is the place to go. The Menu even says 'most likely rare'.

Am an ex Garstang lad now living in Australia went in for a quiet drink handed over a genuine 10 pound note then was confronted by the bar staff shouting at the top of her voice give me some real effin money instead of this fake crap lettin all of the pub hear, i dont mind being questioned because it was crisp and brand new out of an australian bank but you need customer service skills and how to talk to people, will never return and as will my friends in town, need to review your people skills !!!!!!

We visited the Sparling recently for the first time as it is a Hi-Life Platinum restaurant . We are so glad we did because this is a truly fab venue; clean, modern decor, relaxed atmosphere, roaring open fires and well-spaced out tables so you can enjoy some privacy even when other diners are sitting nearby. The heating had broken just as the snow arrived so Neil brought individual heaters to the tables to keep everyone warm and toasty. We felt like nothing was too much trouble, and that the staff truly cared that you had a great dining experience, not just a nice meal. We are really looking forward to returning again as the menu had a great choice, the food was delicious and plentiful and of a very high standard. We both went with Neil's recommendations and were so glad we did as our meals were divine. Can't praise this place highly enough.

Went with 2 friends this week; we all had excellent food; Too bad there was a power outage in mid-afternnon inwhich no one could get coffee or anything hot for that matter!! This will certainly not detract us from returning real soon'FRANK

Visited the new refurbished pub today for lunch, using 25 off voucher from the Facebook page. Lovely pub, decor smart nd modern with a country feel. Glasses weren't sparkling clean which is odd for this type of place. Food was delicious we had black pudding and pâté starters, chicken stuffed with salmon and fish n chips, followed by STP. With drinks £36 before voucher discount. Staff good but the processes are letting them down, a lot of food wandering around looking for its owners. This kind of place and these prices should be table service. We had good service when all around we're suffering poor service and long waits for meals. We'll go back , was glad we went early. Don't be put off try for yourselves.
