Great food (chef is great at the classics!), fantastic atmosphere, courteous and professional staff
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereWe visit Grasmere once a year and this was our 5th visit to Lewis’s. Booked online for Wednesday 6:45pm - there was some issue with reminders being sent for reservations I’d never made or had confirmation for but that’s a tech issue, although I was told it was me! The food was as good as on previous visits but there was only one waitress on and she was under a lot of pressure at a busy time. - every table bar 1 was booked. Come 8 o’clock the place was almost empty. Enjoyed my meal - the black pudding starter and pork belly main were delicious but the atmosphere wasn’t the same as on previous visits. It all felt hurried and harassed.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereFour of us were celebrating a friend’s birthday on 8 October. The food we had was good but it was disappointing that they had run out of the mushroom starter, roast potatoes and Bakewell tart. We were told this was because it was the end of their week! No opportunity for coffee - we were just presented with the bill. It was all a bit rushed. Suggest Saturday night is avoided.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereI came here with my partner on 13th October, booked at 7pm. We had been staying in Grasmere for a few days' break, and our experience had been a little up and down to this point, but choosing Lewis's for our meal on the last night was the best decision. We found the restaurant welcoming, the service efficient and the food absolutely faultless; I had the Lamb Rack and my partner had the Chicken, both top quality and cooked to perfection. The desserts did not disappoint either, Cheesecake for my partner and Affogato for myself, both heavenly. I have read some reviews which have been critical of both the service (rushed) and the menu choice (somewhat limited), but these smaller establishments can really hit the mark; they have not overwhelmed themselves with dozens of menu dishes that they cannot possibly maintain quality over, and speaking personally, we did not feel rushed at all, the service was attentive and it was also efficient, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Perhaps this may not be the ideal venue if you like to make the business of eating into a ritual that lasts all evening, but everything felt just right for us. Would definitely choose to eat here on our next visit, and would not hesitate to recommend.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereFood was good. Service was very poor I am sure that the people who booked in for the 6-00 sitting thoroughly enjoyed it but I can assure you that the people on the 8-00 sitting did not They are too busy and cannot cope It is obvious when you look at the stressed out staff Please management, just do the 6-00 sitting instead of trying to earn a bit more and spoiling your reputation Also I know it is a thing in the lakes but why do you allow dogs in to a nice restaurant, let them sit in a side room or outside ,not in a room that’s busy where food is being served
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThe food, atmosphere and service were impeccable. We will definitely be back next time we visit
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereDelicious dinner with 4 friends. Staff were friendly and service was good. Menu is fairly standard but quality of food was good. Enjoyed our meal.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereLovely food and friendly staff, but very, very rushed. We were in the restaurant for less than an hour (just had 2 courses). They wanted us to order within 2 minutes of sitting down, had to ask if we could order a drink first, and even then the waitress was back at our table in less than 5 minutes for our food order. As I said, food was nice and staff friendly enough, just made us feel rushed and I have to say, unwelcome. Will try elsewhere next time.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThe food, service and value for money were great! Thank you for a great meal and evening
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereOur second visit and equally as good as the first one. Service excellent, food fantastic, great wine and a lovely ambience. Can't recommend highly enough!
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereAmazing, attentive and friendly service and incredible food. We both had the scallop starter and lamb main and both were delicious. We were very happy to have found this on our weekend away, would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends visiting or returning when we’re next in Grasmere.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereGreat small restaurant with a good varied menu and wine list. Attentive service. Good value. Highly recommended.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereOutstanding food! I am a first-time visitor to this region. I’m from Texas and I expected to be eating a lot of fish n chips and Shepherd’s Pie. The food is such a lovely surprise! I had the French Onion Soup—we totally mess this up in the States with the giant gloop of cheese we smother the soup with. I loved the simple richness of the broth and just the right amount of bread and cheese. The Grasmere rack of lamb was tender and succulent with an excellent t sauce of red wine with just the right touch of mint. But the dessert!!! Oh my yummy goodness !!! The Sticky Toffee Cake with fresh cream is a culinary delight that I will miss greatly! My wonderful meal was complimented with a beautiful Spanish red wine.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThis beautiful restaurant was a great find. The staff were delightful and went out of their way to make sure you got exactly what you wanted. The food presentation was beautiful and tasted delicious. On the whole a most enjoyable evening. We would highly recommend it.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereThe food at this restaurant was amazing. I had the best macaroni cheese that I had ever tasted. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereGiven expense of menu we had high expectations. I had a black pudding starter but it had quite a tough skin. My husband had cod. He would have preferred the skin to have been crispy. My chicken was lovely but again would have benefited from crisp skin. The puddings were too big for us and too sweet. The sticky toffee pudding was a little too caramelised for our tastes. It's a pleasant enough bistro but we did feel packed in like a sardine which impacted on privacy and conversation.
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereHi We enjoyed the evening in your restaurant as this was our first visit , but felt the tables were set to close together .
Lewis’s Bistro – GrasmereA fantastic hidden gem in Grasmere. Food was amazing - the best we've had in a very long time and definitely the best in the Lakes for us. We'll certainly be returning on our next Lakes' visit. I'd certainly recommend booking as it's only a small (but perfectly formed!) restaurant. Staff were lovely too.
