We have eaten here many times and have always had great praise for the restaurant. This time we felt it had deteriorated downwards to a mass production establishment. Service was fast too fast. The portions had become too large, it felt like it high and lower the quality. We did not feel our custom was appreciated, sometimes felt a nuisance. The dogs are too intrusive. To have them right by you breathing far to close and cleaning themselves! Really put one off the food. Perhaps have all dog customers at the far end …leaving fresh air for the other customers. The comparison with another family run restaurant in Grasmere is stark. Lewis bistro, you are way below there standard. Their prices are more competitive. Not sure if we will risk another visit. So disappointed, please go back to old standards.

Lovely meal with friends, had cod, sea bass, stroganoff and steak and was all well cooked and decent portions. Good selection of wines and friendly service.

What a find! Easy to book online. Helpful and friendly staff. A relatively limited menu, however, a good choice. We very rarely eat steak out as it is not always cooked to our liking. We decided on the fillet of beef stroganoff and we weren't disappointed. Excellent quality and it was cooked to perfection. Really good value for money. Would definitely go again.

Smart but cosy setting. Easy to book on line with reminders before our reservation time. Warm welcome and great relaxed atmosphere. Staff were particularly friendly. Food was of top quality and not too expensive. Excellent value for money. We had a lovely evening and will certainly go back.

What an amazing dinner spot! Don’t let a simple menu deter you from eating here. The food is amazing and we received attentive service. Dog friendly as well!

I had a disappointing meal. Food was very average. Prawn piri piri was anything but - frozen prawns barely warm and little or no chilli oil Herb crusted cod wasn’t great. Crust was on skin of cod which was tough and impossible to eat. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend restaurant or return.

Always visit this restaurant when we’re in Grasmere . Food service and atmosphere always excellent. We highly recommend a visit to this restaurant

We were greeted at the door and shown to our table immediately. Both the prawn and whipped feta starters were beautiful. The crusted cod main was lovely but the star of the show was the belly pork. It was so tasty and the portion generous enough to share. There is quiet background music playing so you are able to talk. The service was just perfect. This is a very friendly relaxed restaurant and we will definitely return.

Dinner at Lewis's this Tuesday was a fabulous time. We shared a whipped feta starter, then had mains. My lamb beautifully cooked and the sea bream was great. A good macon wine complimented the meal and was really reasonably priced too. A great time, thank you

Very disappointed ! This was our second visit, the first being excellent, hence the return. My wife chose the fillet steak for main course, and I decided on the fillet steak stroganoff. Don’t know where he got the meat from, both were “ scrag end “ bits of meat , My stroganoff did not come with strips, but a complete steak, so I was able to see the poor quality . We both left half of the steak, and told the staff of our disappointment.

Food quality AVERAGE, nowhere as good as 2/3 years ago. Menu LIMITED with less choice than previously. SERVING staff initially off hand ( new person I guess) but improved and were pleasant as the meal progressed. COST quite high. Would be acceptable for a top class dinner but nowhere near that. FACILITIES - gents toilet did not flush properly and the wc was scruffy. I reported the flushing issue and was advised it was a common problem. There is better food in Grasmere, and similar quality at lower prices.

Good quality food and atmosphere. Had meant to try the restaurant on previous visits. Glad we came this time. Pork Belly and steak dishes were both delicious and generous portions too. Good to see locally sourced food. They were very aware on allergies - good to see. Would recommend.

We came for my birthday. Starters were lovely especially my halloumi which was simple but well presented and delicious. Unfortunately my main course was the opposite. I ordered the beef fillet stroganoff with rice and greenbeans. I did not expect the beef to be an intact fillet as I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked. The fillet was well done ( I would have requested medium rare) , the rice was an obvious mush so I left most of it, and the vegetables of broccoli and carrots were overcooked. When asked about how we were enjoying the meal I did say that I hadn't expected the fillet to be wholeand that for me it was overcooked for which I received a brief apology and was brought some sugarsnaps when I mentioned that there were no beans ( again overcooked). I forgot to mention the rice but it was evident at the end that I had left most of it. Had the restaurant not been so small and intimate I would have made more of a fuss as I felt that my meal was definitely of a poor quality and at the very least we should have been offered some kind of discount. I left feeling extremely disappointed
