I saw advertising for this Fish and Chip shop and have used it a few times now. Unfortunately, the money spent on good advertising has been thrown away. The girl behind the counter was generally disinterested (yawning) and apart from throwing the fish and chips (of each customer) into the boxes - she was quite rude. I shall not be recommending this shop to any family and friends again and I certainly won't go there - other shops will be more than happy to receive my money and custom.

We are regular visitors to this restaurant and are always very happy with the excellent food and service. The staff are courteous and very professional. Last weekend we had the pleasure of attending my husbands company Christmas meal there were 17 couples in number to be served at the same time. Well done Julio staff all had a very good evening and an excellent time. there was no rushing and no one was urge to move on after the meal was finished, we all chatted together in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Excellent food, excellent service and really friendly to our children. A really good choice of food and really quick service. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes quality food.

I moved to stainland in 2011 as my husband Alan had lived here for many years, I wanted a local country pub and the Duke of York offers a homely feel to a pub, where everybody makes you welcome and even as new comers we felt like we had been friends with people for years. As we are now regulars to the Duke of York and we consider James and Maria as our friends. They offer excellent service and always have a smile so we decided to have our wedding reception at the pub on 17.9.11. We invited 50-60 people and all our guests were made to feel welcome. The buffet was excellent as always, maria's cooking is fab. Maria and James had a smile for everybody all day, our guests stayed till late into the evening and now my family feel part of the local pub life. We had a fantastic day and would highly recommend the Duke for any functions or if your passing just call in for a meal or a drink. Went in for the first time in years as people that had it before really put us off...it was like an episode from the munsters. Could not be more different, food excellent and a totally different atmosphere and they actually have some stock behind the bar. Keep it up guys!!!

An absolute surprise!we heard it had been taken over,we walked in on a Thursday night it was packed and we soon realised why,the food was fab we were stuffed!We stayed for the quiz very popular just wish we had saved room for the pie and peas,that were free by the way....Will be going to this pub lots in future what a lovely atmosphere.keep it up Bottomleys Arms

Extensive menu, great decor, very friendly staff, excellent value food.

We've been several now to the pub for food and every time it's been excellent. The roast dinner is great value for money - the beef was so tender and you get a great sized portion as well (and we eat a lot!) I had the pie and there was loads of tender beef in a yummy gravy. It's also a lovely traditional little pub with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The Fox Bar & Bistro in Ripponden is a friendly welcoming place that has a relaxing décor and laid back feel. We have eaten here several times and never had a disappointing meal. Our last visit was on a Wednesday teatime in July. There was a fish and seafood festival taking place with a large variety of fish dishes to choose from. I asked what the Parrot Fish was like, the waitress wasn’t sure but she went to ask the chef who came out to describe the texture and flavour to me. It was an excellent choice, well cooked and very tasty, it was accompanied with a rocket and chilli salad which complimented the fish well. My husband opted for steak which was cooked perfectly to his liking and came with the most delicious chips. We will definitely be returning.

Myself and a few friends who eat out quite often called into the sportsman's last Saturday night. The place was "packed" to say the least. Luckily we had booked a table as the whole pubs really busy and the atmosphere was electric. I had a tart of goats cheese and red onion chutney which came served on a magnificently presented, followed by Seabass in lemon and caper butter which i chose from the fish specials board, the fish was lovely and succulent. My friends all had 10 0z sirloin steaks which were cooked to perfection. Value for money and great looking food. definitely coming again.

highly recommended for the fab food & wide choice of dishes, restaurant is homely & stylish. Staff always friendly & welcoming & nothing is too much trouble. Nice wine too. We had our informal wedding reception here (july 2010) & it was perfect-the food, service, everything. Thanks to Johnny, Matt & the team for helping to make it a day to remember.

The food is outstanding here. A good old fashioned English country pub, serving home cooked food at great prices. Atmosphere is fantastic and the staff are great. They are so welcoming and friendly. We are a regular and take all our family and friends there for a meal when they come to stay with us. The Sunday roast dinners are the best and the Yorkie puds are just to die for!

Had one of the most enjoyable lunches out today as my wife and I visited the Sportsmans Inn.We travelled over from Bramley on a beautiful Springlike day. First time visitors we plumped for a Retro lunch and dessert.I had half a pint of Taylors Landlord which was excellent .I chose the Fishermans Pie which came with Roast Potatoes and a selection of spring Veg.The dish was fantastic with succulent pieces of fish in a creamy sauce topped with mash and a cheesy top.My wife had the Beer Braised Beef which also was delicious.Finding space for a dessert I opted for the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with vanilla Ice Cream.My wife had the Banoffee Crumble with Creme Anglaise.Both were fantastic.We immediately booked for Mothers Day. Can't wait to go back .Highly recommended!
