We had a fabulous Sunday lunch here. Very friendly staff and beautifully cooked food in a cosy country pub. The portions are very generous and the very good value for money. We've had a few meals here and have never been disappointed

Went for the Sunday Carvery which was lovely with great food, good drinks and an enjoyable environment. Enjoyed it many times before and will do again.

Love the Empress they are such a professional and friendly true pub gang. I was slightly disappointed the full menu wasn’t on when I came with family to watch the Six Nations. But even their share platters of bacon and cheese chips, nachos, chicken wings were exactly the right finger food for an event. Kids loved it. Also celebrated a birthday and was made to feel so special and welcome. Also a lovely crowd. Thank you.

First time I've been for a while. Not too bad. Had Gammon and Lamb. Gammon was nice but could not eat the Lamb as was too chewy. Pork crackling was soft and chewy. Not crispy. Very good selection of veg and trimmings. Yorkshire puddings were large and good. If you ask for 2 its not a problem. Maybe an off day for the Lamb, but spoilt it for me.

Lovely lunch with friends after a walk around the nature reserve. Such a welcome for us and our dogs too. ☺️

We decided on this beautiful pub restaurant to have a special occasion meal and everything was perfect. The food was delicious, staff so friendly and the ambience so chilled. Very reasonably priced, we would not hesitate to recommend a visit and we will be back.

Nice place to meet up with family for lunch before attending the funeral of a family member. Parking is easy (you need a disc, we used our Cumbria council one). Good choice of food for different requirements, one vegan, 2 veggies and 3 omnivores! Huge portions of fries went down well. And best for us - dogs are welcome. And ours LOVED the Stray with all its squirrels.

Been going to the empress for a long time for the Sunday carvery, but we had a break for a good few months. This Sunday just gone we went back for Sunday lunch - I have noticed they have invested in new serving stations - and the carvery was better than ever! Lots to choose from, large variety of veg, sides, and lots of different meats. Great down to earth proper traditional pub, helpful staff and really nice food.

This was a very pleasant visit,the food and service were excellent. The occasion was my wife's birthday and she enjoyed what she ate which is not always the case! Also it was a varied menu. Will come again.

Had a lovely 2 course Christmas lunch here yesterday. Really cosy and homely pub. Friendly service, tasty food, really big portions, reasonably priced too. Will definitely be back!

Excellent carvery and atmosphere. Lots of choice and friendly staff, great with the children. Draught beer also very good!

Our first time in the Royal Oak for a meal and it won't be the last. It was a quiet Wednesday but there was still a pleasant atmosphere in both the bar and the dining room. The staff were friendly and service was excellent. There was a good choice of items from the menu and the food was excellent and good value for money. The dining room was cosy and comfortable and had a real country pub feel. Well certainly be back, especially as the pub is on my dog's favourite walk and also has a decent beer garden. Well worth a visit.

We had a lovely meal. The carvery was fresh, hot and with so much choice. We prebooked which was really easy to do online. The prices are very reasonable and options for the different sizes of meal are great. Such a lovely finale to a family weekend, thank you.

This was our first time at the Royal Oak and the food was delicious. The portions were generous and service excellent. One mark was deducted though for not being allowed to mix starters and mains from the two types of menus... surely that would have been possible for an increased price?
