Where to go on a rainy Bank Holiday weekend? On the basis that it was monsoon rain forecast for Lancashire we made a rare foray across the Pennines to Rudding Park near Harrogate. The in-laws had been earlier in the week and were singing its praises so we booked the day before and headed off on Bank Holiday Sunday. It’s a beautiful and imposing building set in a large estate and unsurprisingly is very popular for weddings. It’s also home to a couple of golf courses and attracts a lot of golf parties. The room was lovely – modern, spacious, underfloor heating in the bathroom with separate shower and rolltop bath. We snacked at lunchtime in the modern bar area then had the full a la carte evening meal in the Clocktower Restaurant. Excellent service (with many French staff), beautiful food and a well-lit room (naff restaurant lighting is one of my wife’s bugbears). You can mix and match between the set and a la carte menus and highlights included the woodpigeon kiev for starters, venison cutlet for the main and a steamed pud for dessert – plus a Yorkshire cheeseboard. A good choice of wines too. Breakfast next day in the conservatory area was nice too with views out over the grounds. They have a spa area currently but a new one is planned with a pool etc which will only add to the appeal. We’ll be back to check it out!

A perfect place to take my mother for her 75th birthday. Famous since the early 1900's for great food and service. Loved my rosti and glass of Swiss red wine. Betty's is always packed which says it all. The ultimate afternoon tea venue!

We had booked the day before for 6pm for 6 people, to be told on arrival we hadn't booked. The staff were rude and off hand. I asked if they had a table to be told they were booked until 8pm. When I pushed it and said it had been booked over 24 hours previously one staff member said they weren't in then, and the other looked at the diary and miraculously found our booking! We were seated and ignored for 15 minutes before they took out drinks order. They then took our food order and the food arrived fairly swiftly, though they began to clear the starter plates while some of us were still eating. The mains arrived at a reasonable pace following the starters. The food was generally tasteful, plentiful, filling and hot. We had several waiters/waitresses during the meal and we had a job catching anyone's eye to ask for the bill. Out of the two I prefer the Imperial, the Palace's sister restaurant which has had a facelift, round the corner on Kings Road and next time we go out we will go there out of the two. Did we leave a tip? The tip I would leave is manners cost nothing. If you can't be bothered to be polite to your customers, perhaps you are in the wrong job......

I have to say that this was one of the best meals I have ever had. We went for Sunday Lunch and everything was perfect and well worth the £50 a head. Highly recommended.

Small, intimate, call it what you like but the good is the important thing and it's fabulous.Been going here regularly for a couple of years now and could never say I've been disappointed. The meat seems to be good quality and the prices very reasonable. Staff and owner lovely.Keep it up!!

Having recently moved my horse to the area, the Queens quickly became my new "local" for weekend lunch. Cannot fault it, fantastic food, friendly staff and all within a beautiful village. A must try :-)

Me and my friend come to Wetherspoons all most every week. But yesterday the 19th November we came and had a meal and I must say we were very disappointed as the food was cold the chips were hard, so we didn't eat it. My wife and I stumbled across this restaurant as we were spoilt for choice on the curry mile of Harrogate. The flowers on the building were absolutely beautiful, as we admired we stumbled in and boy are we glad we did. Not very busy to start but did get busy late on. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was out of this world, top quality indian, lots of spices and presented beautifully. We're not big reviewers but felt like we had to review, this restaurant certainly deserve to be busier. My wife and I have been eating Indian for 40 years, this was the best. I hope this review helps to those not sure which Indian to use!

We just popped in as we were waiting for friends to arrive and thence a trip around the castle. Very pleasant young man who was the waiter and a lovely lady who served our tea for two and scones. Faultless; we'll be back for an afternoon tea soon. Mike

You may be "child friendly" but, sadly, are not at all customer friendly - could you be pleasant to visitors, smile, be gracious - it is Ripley, near Harrogate, after all!!!

Having visited the Kestrel many times over the years, we had a meal this week 3rd April 2013 and we vowed not to return! my medium cooked steak was raw! the peas were cold and hard, my husbands chicken was very small, and despite the fact he said no onion rings for me the plate was stacked with them! the Eton mess for his desert was, well, a horrible mess! at payment he did complain about the above, and got a very embarassed "sorry"...waste of money I m afraid, LCps dont want £20 off wine

Heard about this fantastic hotel from friends who go as regularly as possible and have wanted to try it out for some time now so last weekend we drove out to Rudding Park. It is a beautiful hotel in truly stunning surroundings. We had lunch at the clocktower restaurant and it was one of the best dining experiences we have had. Sitting around an ancient olive tree in a light and airy space set the mood for a relaxed luncheon. The food was exquisite and you could tell so much attention to detail in every aspect of the cooking. Service was impeccable, attentive without being over the top. It was a real treat for us but we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. We will definitely be going back as soon as possible, probably for the next special occasion.

Took a bus from my over 60 's club, had a wonderful time food excellent and entertainment was spot on.

I've been a huge fan of Graveley's for a few years now as the batter was so tasty and the fish was so fresh and big too, but we visited the takeaway section recently and unfortunately it has gone really down hill. The batter was almost burnt and had a different taste to it, the chips were greasy and the quality of the fish wasn't good, plus it was very thin too. We found out afterwards that it has recently been taken over. It's such a shame as this was the best fish

Great food every time we go. Staff very helpful well worth a visit.
