Herwitzend

Would highly recommend the Eagle and Child. The menu is at the higher end of 'pub fayre' and everything we had was cooked to perfection and delicious. The service was friendly and courteous. The prices were just a little higher than chain pubs but absolutely worth the odd extra pennies for the quality of the food. We had 2 children in our party and were impressed by the kids food too. Will definitely visit again and looking forward to the warmer months when we can make use of their lovely garden and the children's playarea.

It's the little touches that make the difference, linen tablecloths and napkins, carafe of iced water on the table without being asked, good quality substantial cutlery, complimentary drink while the bill was being prepared, a whisky for me, Baileys for my wife and to top all that I had forgotten just how good Indian cuisine can be having become used to take aways swimming in gee. This place is first class and I will be back.

4 of us went to the buraq on sat 5th sept 08, the bill came to 102 pounds, one person had to send their starter back twice because it was frozen, They VERY GENEROUSLY KNOCKED THE ONE STARTER OFF THE BILL ! SINCE SUN 6TH OF SEPT WE HAVE ALL BEEN ILL with sickness and the runs. Needless to say we will not be going back and will certainly not recommend it. I think they probably need a visit from environmental health!!!!!!

I have dined at this restaurant several times with my friends in the last year or two and have always found the food and service to be of a high standard. The prices are reasonable. Can recommend.

My husband and I went for sunday lunch at The Villa Restaurant a few weekends ago. My husbands starter of soup of the day tasted as though it had come from a packet mix and had had a few tins of tomato added to it. My antipasti type starter was nothing special and the meat , not the best quality... The main meals were lovely but tiny and the bill was not cheap !!!!.....All in all not as good an experience as we have had there before which is a shame as it had been a treat to go on past occasions, on this occasion we felt it had not been value for money at all !!! A real shame .....In fact please sir ...Could we have had some more ?

The Eagle and Child offers superb, fresh locally produced food, with an extensive and interesting menu. Special board changes at regular intervals, helpings are lavish, and although not cheap by chain pub standards, represent excellent value. The staff and service is superb. I have eaten there many times and hope to do so many times more. Cannot recommend this more highly

Local Grievance

The Bell and Bottle was once a family orientated, friendly welcoming pub/restaurant. Now it has become one of the country’s rapidly increasing 2 for 1chains, spewing out luke warm MICROWAVED food served by helpless staff. Upon ordering you have to endure a 45 minute wait listening to crap music with zero atmosphere, just hope you’re in good company or else this wait can become very boring indeed. Once the food has arrived it is usually missing something from the menu like dips, the steaks will be overdone no matter how you ordered it, the potatoes won’t be what you ordered and the salad will be limp. The atmosphere is so dire you almost feel it a crime to laugh, the drinks are far too expensive, the food is rubbish, and there are none of your usual pub qualities like pool table, dart board, sport television, juke box and the most obvious factor: a severe lack of people enjoying themselves.

this takeaway is one of the best. food is always excellent mixed meat curry and shredded crispy beef are our favorites with salt and pepper ribs yum yum. try it out you will not be disappointed. phone your order in as it mainly very busy

East Ocean Chinese Takeaway – Kirkham
Money Spending Customer

Typical of the way these big chains are taking over the great British pub. The same thing is happening to cafes with brands like Costa Coffee and Cafe Nero wiping the floor with the small businessman. The food here is not very good, they are now a two-for-one on the food so while you are saving money on your meal they are stinging you with the price of the ale. Do not order a short drink and unless you have your cheque book do not order a double! It is nearly three quid for a pint aswell. And the bastards got rid of the pool table too. I aint happy.

Water-drinker

The food and ambiance of the Ashiana were wonderful. My party had pre dinner drinks and then ordered a carafe of wine, cokes for the non-drinkers, and a jug of tap water to accompany the meal. Nothing was said as the order was taken but during the meal it transpired that it is the Ashiana's policy not to give out tap water. I think this is outrageous.

Happy Eater

Went last Saturday night with my wife on the recommendation of our son, it's not the type of cuisine we would normally consider but am glad we did. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent if rather slow in coming which didn't bother us as we were in no hurry. Will definitely go again!

The Bell and Bottle is now a Marstons 'Two for One' restaurant / pub and in January 2008 underwent a total refurbishment. It now has a large car park, and has nice modern decor. There are a choice of tables, sofas and outside seating. Sadly the meals are not at all great - the Sunday Roasts are watery and lack taste, and the various chicken dishes are bland, although I do recommend the Swordfish meal. If you want a better tasting meal and are prepared to pay a higher price, Salvatore's Italian is about 50 metres further up the road (the old Highgate Inn) and offers better value for true foodies!
