Without doubt good value for money a place i will be going back to repeatedly .

Farmers Arms – Ormskirk

My partner and I had Sunday lunch at the Walton Arms in Altham on 29th March 2009 and frankly we have been very disappointed by the service. We ordered our food at 2.50pm and opted for the the three course offer and sat in the bar area - this was probably our first mistake, as we were forgotten about. The starters were pleasant enough, and the main course acceptable though the roast beef was a little too fatty and chew in places. We waited for someone to clear our plates (from about 3.55pm) but no-one came, so we left at approximately 4.25pm without enjoying our third course which had already been paid for. On leaving we were going to speak to the staff, but couldn't get their attention as 4 of them were in deep discussion at the end of the bar, oblivious to the needs of their customers. This was our first visit to the Walton Arms and probably our last - what a shame that such poor service has left a bad impression

Blue Elephant - Chorley This is an indian restaurant situated in a nice location with a good sized car park. The decor inside is modern and there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The The staff are smartly dressed and attentive, however, we did feel they were a little too attentive and intrusive at times. There is a wide selection of dishes although given the quality of the food, we did not feel that this represented good value for money. We both had chicken dishes, and although the chicken was very tasty, we were both very disappointed with the sauces. The masala sauce was more reminiscent of a korma but with red colouring, in that, it tasted very sweet and coconuty… I was told that the sauce consisted of a great deal of sugar and half coconut/almond flakes which would explain the very, very sweet and sickly taste. The waiter also told me that if I saw what they had put in the sauce in terms of sugar etc I would not eat the dish… The side order of chips, which I was told would be the best chips around, tasted like they had been re fried and were, as a result very greasy. The mushroom pilau rice tasted like it had also been reheated on at least one occasion. The toilet facilities were adequate and clean. The mints were nice. In summary: Great location Nice Decor Attentive staff Disappointing food - will not return or recommend.

I visited the Dolphin Lounge Restaurant with a group of friends this week and was firstly amazed at the recent transformation of the premises which is truly stunning! The atmosphere was electric and the food was to die for. We had a great time and will most definitely become regulars. Love it!

We have eaten here for lunch and evening. Excellent food and as it is a small restaurant the atmosphere is friendly and intimate. |Had a great night with our friends. Lovely lobster - a special - and great cocktails. The staff are lovely too.

Great pub/restaurant with lovely food at an excellent price. VERY BUSY so make sure you book, because of this it is sometimes a little noisy but this all adds to the ambience and the service is always very good. An excellent place to enjoy home cooked pub food, the staff are extremely friendly and you could not enjoy a better country pub atmosphere. My husband and I highly recommend a visit no matter if you live local or not.

Both the food + the service in the Border Rose Inn are first class, the homemade pies are very tasty + the portions are very filling + the waitress service is excellent, you get a lot for the price - it is well worth a visit.

Border Rose – Todmorden
Mojo By The Sea

Delightful and cosy tapas restaurant where you can relax and enjoy yourself whilst being tended upon by first class waiters/waitresses who serve with a smile and leave you at ease to enjoy your evening . So much do i enjoy this place i travel from Blackpool knowing a pleasant evening guaranteed.

Visited this restaurant on Friday evening (3/4/2009) with husband, parents and children. Couldn't fault a thing. The food, surroundings and service were excellent. Will definitely be a regular from now on.

Had a wonderful Lunch here yesterday with a stunning view to boot. This has got to be one of the best places to visit in the North of England. It has it all, history, location, views and great food and wine.

my wife and i have just got back from another great meal at the Border Rose pub/restaurant,with myself being a bi-lateral amputee i never have any problems,as the owner/chef who's name is Barry always helps my wife to carry my wheelchair up the steps into the restaurant.....nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and the menu and food are always top class.....my wife and i eat there at least once a month and recommend this restaurant to you all.

The restaurant is very smart, really cool decor and the food was tasty. However it seemed the restaurant had over booked and we felt pressured by quite rude waiters who wanted us to eat, drink and leave as soon as possible. An otherwise nice meal was spoilt by overbearing waiters, the food was lovely and there was a massive variety but I wouldn't go on a Saturday night again if I was ever to go. Drinks are quite expensive, the food was reasonable and it's nice to see a good variety of desserts which most Indian restaurants usually lack.

Visited the Stork Inn this afternoon, It was a perfect spring afternoon, Drove from Blackpool through some of Lancashires most beautiful countryside with the hood down. On arriving we found a table in the restaurant/bar area. It had a varied menu with good vegetarian options. There was also a specials menu and it offers good choice for families as most dishes have half size price options with them, great for kids or for grazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 2 hours rather than the planned 1 hour stop! This place was recommended by tourism professionals who told us this place was a little different. THINGS I LIKED- -Friendly staff and family run. (felt like a local after 10 mins!) -Traditional style country pub -Prompt and attentive service -An excellent varied menu with veg and family options. -Unique South African traditional cuisine -All food prepared and cooked on the premises Inc awesome sweets. THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE- -I had to go home! OVERVIEW- -This place is one to watch, I was told that they are planning BBQ's and have lots of ideas to keep customers interest.

Ate here last night, saw the sign 'Guardian Best place to eat' so was eager to get a table booked. When we arrived there was a guitarist on. Great atmosphere and candlelit. Food was amazing, out of this world and staff was so so friendly helping with recommendations. We had a couple of cocktails and really started to get into the music. The Singer was really talented and was told he plays every Thursday so we'll be back again soon. Food 5/5 Service 4/5 Entertainment 5/5 GREAT NIGHT - little worse for wear this morning though :)

I recently passed here and though we would go for a change having usually gone to The High Moor for any special meals out. The lady who runs the place was lovely and the service couldn't be faulted. The food was lovely and beautifully presented. I do wish I hadn't had a starter though as the portions were generous and I couldn't manage a pud! I would recommend this to friends and family alike and would be very happy to go again.

I dined at the Three Fishes a week last Friday and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I was taking my mother for an early mothers day treat and she was not disappointed! We arrived for lunch and proceeded to the bar where we were met with professional yet relaxed service, I have one gripe which I think the staff were slightly ashamed of; I ordered a pint of Peroni and a lemonade for mum, the lemonade machine must have been on the fritz because the lemonade actually came out of a 2 litre schweppes bottle, no apology was made and full price was charged which I thought a little queer as the reputation precedes this place. Not to worry, we're not fussy. We declared we were dining and were promptly sat at a table of our choice (down the far end near the fire). There was no background music which I commented on, maybe there is some thought behind this but I did wonder if the experience may be better with some dulcet tones in the background. With the free magazine offered at the bar and the extensive menus we were not short of literature and my lager was obviously well kept. Mum chose the fish pie and I went for the braised shin of beef. It promptly arrived 15 minutes later even though the place was filling up by this time. I must say the quality of the food was fantastic, as a former chef myself I share the respect for fresh local produce to the fact you do not have to do a great deal with quality ingredients. The shin was cooked brilliantly, very slowly braised; so much so it had an uncanny likeness to lamb (and this is how it should be). Accompanied a thin red wine gravy and cubed root veg it was a great comfort on a dull day, the horseradish mash was just right for me although there could have been more of it. My mother enjoyed her fish pie commenting on the well selected the fish was and that it was 'bloody red hot'. All in all it was a fantastic lunch and with two lemonades, two pints of lager and two main meals + tip being less than 35 quid; I didn't fell it too expensive! On behalf of mum I will add that the service was perfectly unintrusive. We HATE being interrupted being asked if our meal is 'ok' half a dozen times whilst eating, we were not even disturbed when we were asked the one time how it was. Well done for that! It was also amusing to do a bit of 'people watching' too! We saw what we thought an 'ominous couple' across the way with a shifty demeanor and an obvious age difference. We had a chuckle at how this businessman was taking his mistress to an 'out-of-the-way' restaurant so as not to be spotted. But we knew exactly what they were up to. Very amusing. Afterwards we went for a meander around Great Mitton to make more of a day of it and spotted a few quaint shops. A lovely afternoon, many thanks to all the gang at the Three Fishes, you do a good job.
