A lovely place to relax and unwind. The staff were welcoming and gave great service and the food was excellent. I will definately go back again.

Great fish and chips

Magpie Cafe is a must when visiting Whitby. Haddock & Chips was delicious and jam roly-poly was the best I have ever eaten

We visited on James Martins recommendation and we weren’t disappointed, we order fish and chips and a seafood hotpot and both were delicious, staff were all very friendly too - well worth a visit !

We had a table for 6 in the window on the ground floor. Booked online several weeks in advance and all went well with the booking. Service was friendly and excellent, engaged nicely with us with plenty of laughter. Food also excellent, both fish and vegetarian. Eton mess for dessert particularly good, and one of our number unusually for him defeated by the size of his ice cream dessert. A lovely family evening.

Really good food and friendly service! A huge menu to choose from; we shared battered monk fish tail and chips, a scallop starter that was on the specials board, some sauteed squid and a piece of poached salmon with garlic butter, and found it all to be of a high quality.

Visited the Magpie twice last week and on both occasions was so impressed with the service and the food. Enjoyed a variety of the fish dishes on offer and all were superb, the side salad was a meal on its own. Staff are friendly and fun which creates a great atmosphere and due to the popularity of the restaurant they work very hard. Would be the first booking I made when we return to Whitby, highly recommended.

Excellent food and service. Many years since we last visited when we lived in Leeds. Yesterday returned for dinner whilst visiting friends and family in Leeds and really enjoyed our meal. Gioza, followed by miso tofu soup and then a bento box. Thank you.

Brought my friends to Whitby for the day and introduced them to Magpies. It was my friend 50 th birthday and what can I say ! Absolutely fantastic service from walking through the door , to attentive staff. Food was fabulous, my friend had the salmon pie and remarked it was the best she had ! Booked for august before I left …. Best fish and chips in Whitby!

We visited the restaurant on Saturday evening we were given a warm welcome and taken straight to a table. The service was good and the food good value for money. The venue has a calming atmosphere and was most enjoyable.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here, however menu was very limited, and the portion size is only small. I found the small restaurant lacking in atmosphere, but would go back as the food was spot on

Hi We visited Saturday night first time since closure due to pandemic. Food was fantastic although portions small for the price. No mouse bouche anymore or Maître D waiting to greet. Saddened to see completely new staff, recognised about two faces. Music too loud I thought as could not hear ourselves speaking. There use to be a saxophonist and pianist? The lady who looked after us as well as the service was fantastic. We told her the cheese board needs to return and she said a lot of people had asked so it will return. I noted the client group were not as nice as before, big mistake adding parmesans to the menu, I liked the fact that the Vine was high end restaurant, only one in Middlesbrough, some reviewing is needed we feel.
