Outstanding food… had a Sunday lunch. We could not find any fault with the quality of the food served . Nice restaurant set near Cliffords Tower . Varied menu and good selection of wines/spirits A must visit if in York . Will be regular from now on . Thanks Castlegate x

Had our first ever meal here, the fish, chips and mushy peas were superb. We felt very safe and the service was excellent. Would highly recommend!

Had 3 lovely meals here this weekend. If you are in Whitby The Magpie is a must. Lovely staff and a great menu.

Great location & quality food. Also there is an extensive menu. My favourite dish is Magie fishpie which is great value & very tasty.

Meal was lovely, the fish is superb and the chips are light and fluffy. Service was friendly and efficient .

We booked in advance but arrived an hour early and were taken straight to a table. One of us had the crab bisque starter which was very nice and ciabatta roll was delicious. 2 mains ordered but only one arrived minus a side dish. There was a mistake with the second order so one of us ate while the other waited 15 mins more (to be fair the waitress did offer to take the first main back and bring them both together but we'd already waited 15mins). The fried cod was lovely but the baked one was a small tail end and disappointing, especially having to wait so long for it. Overall we were disappointed as it was a birthday meal and not the usual Magpie standard.

Absolutely as fantastic as ever. It was truly wonderful to be back at one of my favourite eating places ever! I have been visiting here for ever, and have enjoyed every single meal ever eaten. The steps put in place to keep you safe have managed to retain the unique atmosphere of The Magpie. Thank you Audrey, who I have got to know over the years visiting, and every ginger member of the team thank for making this birthday visit the best. Both birthday girls loved it. My lemon sole was exquisite. I look forward to many more visits in the future. No complaints as all. Thank you

My wife and I have recently had a meal, it was the first weekend of inside dining. The organisation, service and the quality of the food was excellent. I will be recommending anybody visiting York to book a meal.

During our short weekend in Whitby we went to Magpie Cafe twice, once for lunch and once for evening meal - cannot recommend it highly enough! The people serving were all very helpful and friendly which creates a very relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. The sea food was superb and so fresh. For lunch we had the Crab Bisque, which was delicious, and then in the evening we had starter muscles, salmon pate and whole lobster each. All absolutely delicious and really top quality - amazing value for exceptional dining experience. Thank you to all at the Magpie Cafe for making our stay in Whitby so memorable!

Food was excellent great choice of menu and fish and seafood shellfish was as fresh as I had the roast tom and pepper soup was lovely as I have an allergy .

The menu was very very reduced. To only 3 items, 2 of which were fish so very limited choice. Not told about the reduced menu when we sat down. Staff very attentive and friendly but waited over an hour for food and with two small children this wasn’t ideal.

Visited the brand new venue on Newland Avenue just after opening. Very bright and well decorated. We had great advice on food and went for the full Meze! Make sure you're hungry as the food just keeps on coming!! Amazing food and service we'll be back for sure

An excellent meal. Plenty of choice. Very good service and extremely good value for money. Could not have asked for better. We will return.

Delicious food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed my evening there and will be going again!
