Frankly awful, service was slow, I was served full sugar cola when requested diet and had a rather sullen and annoyed response when I asked it to be changed. The baked potato I had was lukewarm at best, the pitiful salad I could have that wasn't covered in olive oil, was warmer than the potato. Waste of money.

food and service were excellent but have to agree with some of the other comments the tables are far too close to each other.

Me and my partner recently went to Bistrot Verite for our anniversary and enjoyed a fantastic meal. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and were attentive to our needs. As this was a special occasion we wanted a special wine and the waiter was only too happy to help us choose. With regards to the food, there is an obvious French theme to the menu, the chef here has been able to bring classic French food into an English village, furthermore he has done it extremely well. My partner and I shared a Chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection. The desserts were also to die for, the crème brulee being my favourite. Overall I would rate this as high as any other restaurant in the area. The food, service and the general ambience was perfect for our anniversary and both my partner and I would recommend this to anyone. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Been meaning to post this for a while, went to etsu at the end of May and had one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! I have lived in japan for 2 years, came back in August 2009. I had literally no experience of Japanese cuisine before I moved there, and since moving back I have tried Japanese restaurants in a fair few British cities - in terms of authenticity this restaurant is right on the money. The staff couldn't be friendlier, and the owner Dave is a thoroughly charming chap with a real passion for what he does. Atmosphere first class, and for the true Japanese dining experience I can heartily recommend ordering edamame (soy beans) and Asahi beer on tap. The House Sake is from Akita prefecture, an excellent region for Sake more suited to foreign palettes. Onto the food! Me and my girlfriend shared a fair few starters each - the gyoza and karage were perfect, but the highlight was the tempura, done in an exquisitely light, melt in the mouth batter. I opted for a sea bass main, my girlfriend went for fish of the day, marlin. Absolutely perfect, the waiter was also able to give us a good guide to which of the japanese sauces on offer would go best with which fish, excellent knowledge. As is acknowledged on the menu, japanese cuisine is not known for its desserts, however the Baileys Cheesecake to finish was absolutely sublime. I've just moved back to Liverpool, and will be frequenting etsu as much as my budget allows!

Had to provide some balance, looking at the reviews. Three years ago this restaurant was OK (used to be called "The Curzon"). Wife and I stopped going because the food became awful and frighteningly overpriced. Re-tried it a couple of months ago, in its "Salvatores" guise. Calamari was soggy. TBone was gristly/poor cut. Stroganoff was dry. Terribly overpriced. Ripped off. Never again.

Sadly not a recommendation. Not aware when we that it had only been open 5 days (impulsive night out). I expect new places to have teething troubles but this was much more. Waited ages for drinks (not many of the waiting staff appear to understand much english). Waited ages again for the food. Disappointed what arrived. I had the combo starter. Sweet potato in tempura batter, even normal batter would have been better that waht we got...nothing like tempura. Won Tons were really limp and soggy. It appeared to me that most of the items were bought frozen then cooked, however that is not reflected in the prices which are expensive considering the poor quality. Towards the end of the night a small blonde lasy appeared and things speeded up. May she was manager, or owner. If only she had been there earlier, things might have gone more efficiently. Menu talks about how authentic the food is. Cannot agree, it was like a chinese with more spices added. The only good thing I can say about the place is, nice decor. Shame about the food.

We have had two Saturday evenings at Prego in the last month and on both occasions we had a wonderful time with excellent food served by attentive and knowledgeable staff. The a la carte menu is great but try the specials, I had monkfish wrapped in pancetta and served with a white wine and grape sauce, and on the other occasion red snapper with a spicy mexicana sauce which was equally superb.

We went as a family to celebrate my sisters 63rd birthday. She was the oldest and the party was mixed ages with the youngest being only 6. It was a rare sunny day in August and we enjoyed the food, drink and the sunshine on the outside terrace. But Shaun our waiter made the day, he was helpful, cheerful and very entertaining. We would go back again but would hope that Shaun is on that shift.

We ate here last week whilst on a three day break in Liverpool. It was one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. The food was superb as was the service - just loved the slowly bakes mushrooms with Roquefort. Can't wait to go back.

I visited this restaurant a week ago Thursday, with a group of friends. I travelled from Birkenhead, Wirral and can say that it was worth the travelling. The food was delicious, the layout excellent, so much so that I am going back next week with another friend

This restaurant is fab!!! Some friends and i recently visited Cafe Porto for the evening tapas menu. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. It is very reasonably priced too and we took our own wine. There aren't many places where you can get a mountain of delicious food and wine in lovely surroundings for less than £20 a head! Although it is BYO, they do have Portuguese wines on the wine list, which are priced between £15-25 ish. We opted to take our own Portuguese wine and the guy that runs it brought a taster glass of their house wine to see how the wines contrasted and told us a little bit about the different wine growing areas of Portugal. The people who worked there were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. I really recommend Cafe Porto - its a hidden gem!

Visited on Sunday for the roast and thought building and service was OK but the food was not. The veg was quite obviously frozen and lacked any taste the roast potatoes must of been kept warm all day because they looked like they needed re-hydrating plus we did not get any Yorkshire puds because they had run out? (im sorry but how hard are they to make?) only saving grace was the beef was not too bad and gravy had some taste. I will not be returning to this pub again because if you cannot make a roast what chance have you got at anything else? Avoid and visit bottle and glass in Rainford.

Fish and chip and Indian takeaway in the same place is a great idea.

Delicious pasta cooked to perfection in an oasis of calm and sophistication. Very friendly staff, and we will return soon. A cut above anything else found locally.
