Had a great night at the Lowry. It's the perfect place to base yourself when in Manchester.
The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel – Manchester City CentreThe food here is amazing. I lived in Japan about five years ago and until eating at Tokyo Season have found Japanese restaurants in England to be a bit gimmicky and lacking in most of my favourite dishes. However, after stumbling in here accidentally on Saturday and having the nicest meal I've ever had in Manchester I have already arranged to come again.
Tokyo Season – Manchester City CentreIF u want quality food but do not want to cook get yourself off too Zouk their curries are always the best in term of taste they definitely r the best!
Zouk Tea Bar – Manchester City CentreFantastic, really, really worth going! A Group of us from work had heard about the new ZOUK and thought we'd give it a try, this Wednesday- when we got there we were told it was a special night 'Comedy night' there was no seats left, but we begged and somehow they sorted it out! Comedian a bit on the poor, but the food and atmosphere made up for it. Where taking the MD for his 40th next Saturday. Warning BOOK Friday, Saturday night! There always fully booked unless you go early evening or after 9.30pm.
Zouk Tea Bar – Manchester City CentreWell, what can I say! I went to San Carlo for a meal with my Fiancee as a birthday treat on Saturday 16th May. We had heard great things and read lots of glowing reviews. We arrived at the restaurant for our table which was booked for 7pm. I very lovely lady told us they were very busy and it would be a little later than 7pm and asked if that was OK, I said yes no problem, it was very busy and the atmosphere was great. We went to the bar to get ourselves a drink and wait for our table. We were then told that the whole of the Man United team were in the restaurant celebrating winning the Premiership that very day. As a United fan I couldn't believe my luck and then realised why it was so busy! The staff were fantastic, regularly updating us on the progress of our table. We were stood by the entrance/exit as it was so busy, then the restaurant manager came over to ask everybody by the reception/exit to make way for the United team as they were now leaving. Just then a 'security' chap came right passed us with the Premiership trophy, which everybody was touching including ourselves. Then all the players one by one came right passed us and we shook hands, gave kisses and hugs to all the Reds, absolute bliss! Shortly after, once the restaurant had got back to normal we were told our table was ready. The service was excellent and the food was second to none. The staff are great and the atmosphere, I guess even when United don't visit was great. Great place and will be going back very soon. A must!
San Carlo – Manchester City CentreEating at Glamorous is a really mixed experience; on one hand, the sheer scale of the place is impressive, the menu is fairly extensive and the food is pretty good. On the other hand, it's in a dog-rough location, you get mithered by people trying to sell you things from food trolleys at your table all the time and it's really quite dirty in places. The chairs in the reception / waiting area are absolutely filthy with all kinds of stains, as is the carpet. The food is pretty good without being sensational; it's definitely of a higher quality than those eat-as-much-as-you-want self-service Chinese buffets, but it's - in my opinion - just the same as an average Chinatown restaurant. All in all, a little disappointing.
Glamorous – Northern QuarterWe came as a party of 12 to the Stock Restaurant yesterday to celebrate a birthday. The table was booked for 8.30pm. We sat down at our table at 9pm. Our starters were served at 10.10pm and our main course at 11.15pm. Food: Had the food been hot when it arrived at the table (which it wasn’t, in particular the steaks, duck and chicken), it would certainly have been cold by the time the 2 waitresses served the whole table. This applied to both starters and main meals. My chicken livers were bitter and just off cold, the king prawn taglierini bland and dry. Service: Extremely poor: 4 bottles of wine had been pre ordered for our table for our arrival. No one seemed to know about this and we were repeatedly given the wine list (though not offered ANY drink for the first 45 minutes after our arrival or any indication of the time delays) The door manager had a most unusual style of address in that she appeared not to acknowledge any conversation directed at her. The waits between ordering and food arriving were unacceptably long, despite the restaurant being only half full towards the end of the evening. Generally the staff seemed harassed, without care and disinterested if not downright rude. Starting our main course at 11.15pm at a table booked for 8.30pm was extremely disappointing not least as most of us were unable to eat it. A service charge of £29 was automatically added to the bill. This was a special birthday celebrated with special friends and family and we were determined to enjoy our time together in the beautiful building, but the occasion was not helped in any way by our experience with the food and service at the Stock Restaurant.
Stock Restaurant – Manchester City CentreWe were upset when Happy Seasons closed having eaten there dozens of times,it being the best Chinese food in the area (and the cheapest !!). However we are pleased to say the new owners food is just as good ( soya chicken better!!!) and more of it. My few months of misery have ended and the fruitless search for Chinese food of equal quality is over. Long live the new Happy Seasons !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Seasons Chinese Restaurant – Manchester City Centremi spiace tante, perche' tutti me lo hanno vantato e consigliato, che era il migliore italiano in zona,ma sono rimasto deluso in tutto e per tutto......
San Carlo – Manchester City CentreFourteen members of Trafford Curry Club ate here last night Wednesday 20th May 2009. We ate here in January 2008 and decided to come back to see if the high standards were still being maintained. We were not disappointed! Once again the place was very busy with many Asian people eating here as well. After poppadoms, mixed starters, a choice of main courses plus drinks and coffees the total bill came to £320. Once again we were very impressed with the waiter service, food and atmosphere. This place is nearly always packed to the rafters even midweek so they have clearly found a successful winning formula. This restaurant is the jewel in the crown of Manchester. Thank you Akbar for a lovely evening.
Akbars – Manchester City CentreEarth Cafe is beneath Manchester Buddhist Centre, and the decor and atmosphere reflect that. It's relaxed and friendly, with cheerful staff, and the food is served cafeteria style. They use mostly locally grown ingredients and the food is very fresh - big choice of juices, smoothies and salads as well as several choices of main course, and unexpectedly delicious cakes and coffee too. It's all ridiculously cheap for the quality and quantity you get, and the statues are beautiful . . .
Earth Cafe – Northern QuarterChina City is and excellent restaurant. In the week you can get a 3 course mean for £4.50. On a Saturday it is only 50p extra. Service is excellent and the food is always piping hot and freshly cooked. I have tried several other restaurants in China Town but always end up going back to China City.
China City – Manchester City Centrewent here for lunch with several work colleagues , chose the set menu @ £4.95 , poppadums and an array of chutneys etc to start, followed by onion bhaji , shish kebab , garlic naan [ freshly made] with salad, finally two different curries [ 1 veg ] with rice . the food was excellent and the staff were very good , definitely worth a visit , good value for money.
Ashoka – Manchester City CentreHaving closed after Christmas , now re-opened as the Very Happy Seasons ! Very friendly service, traditional Chinese as before, great lunch for £4.85. Big portions too. New owners, good value. Yet to try in the evening but the signs are good if you like proper Chinese food.
Happy Seasons Chinese Restaurant – Manchester City Centrehorrible first i went to the bathroom n saw that sum1 had threw up all over and it had not been cleaned. they we didn't receive our starters.
Akbars – Manchester City CentreAs the restaurant is named dough you would think that this is an area they would specialise in. A good pizza is very easy to make but even easier to get wrong. Unfortunately for dough they just haven't got it right. Whilst the pizza toppings are average the pizza bases resemble supermarket own brand. It's a shame because the location is good and the staff very pleasant. I can think of six or seven other places in Manchester city centre I would prefer to go for a pizza and most of these have a wide selection of meat and fish dishes as well.
Dough Pizza Kitchen – Northern QuarterI Have been eating at the Rajdoot since I was about 5 years old and can confirm that in my well travelled experience it is THE BEST Indian cuisine I have ever tasted. Sant in Manchester is a fine manager and guests are all treated with respect and as they deserve. Keep up the good work Sant.
Rajdoot Tandoori – Manchester City CentreFantastic fresh fish, fabulous friendly facility for feasting OMG - I love food - but this brought my love to another dimension - wow wow wow - I gasped as I was served one of the restaurants spectacular sashimi boats! There are so many different types of fresh fish available in the restaurant including Clam, squid, octopus, Salmon, Sea Bass, Tuna, Prawns and Sea Urchine. The fish is served on a bed of ice cold stripped veg - perfect - I think this represents the flow from ocean to plate (not sure just what i imagined as I slowly enjoyed each mouthful) Infact I enjoyed the service and the food so much I visited twice on the same day as I couldn't resist indulging in a second sashimi boat and the fantastic hospitality For dessert it was a splendid ice cream dish which was served with a glamorous array of chocolate sprinklings, sauce and a crispy chocolate coated waffle I live in Aberdeen Scotland yet wouldn't hesitate on returning to this restaurant again! Believe it or not would actually make the journey South just to appreciate this experience once more Big Thumbs Up!!!! David
