Diners

When there on a business dinner with customers (6 person in total) after reading the good reviews. The food was decent but the service was virtually non existence. Maybe we were not that early. It was busy but most customers have been served. I don't see why there was a need to be treated differently? Appalling attitude by 2 waiters. The manager just cover up and give lotsa lousy excuses. Will never go there again.

We heard about the classical British food on the menu here and when we arrived we were not disappointed the black pudding fritters were moreish. I had the lamb shank with minted pea champ & braised red cabbage with a beautiful lamb gravy and my partner had the bacon chop which was with smoked cheese mash and peppercorn sauce. When we got to the desserts the chef obviously had fun here a chocolate & orange creme brulee and my favourite childhood memory a jam roly poly which was beautifully presented with amazing custard. I advise anyone to visit Toms at least once we will definitely be returning again and again

I really enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and we enjoyed the food. The place has a comfortable atmosphere. Will likely come again.

If you have lived in Japan, eating here will give you a real burst of nostalgia. If you haven't, a meal here will give you an idea of what you're missing. It's the sort of good value, tasty food that you get in this sort of restaurant in Japan. As well as the food being well-prepared and presented the service achieves a balance of discretion and friendliness that is a real pleasure. I had a great meal here last Thursday. I was drawn in by the menu outside the door. They seem to have all the dishes that I miss from my years in Tokyo. Well, almost... If, like me, you yearn for okonomi-yaki you'll have to wait for the Christmas menu. I might try wangle myself another business trip to Manchester just for that.

My husband and I visited Grill on the Alley on a very busy Friday evening, after reading some great reviews and being advised by a number of friends - we weren't disappointed. The setting is loud, busy and fun, so not really the place for a quiet romantic meal for 2. Saying that however, it was unobtrusive and we had a great night together, having some wonderful food to start (Spring rolls and Fish cakes) followed by a perfectly cooked, delicious sirloin steak each. The wine we had was delicious, the service first class, and we are already looking at going back as soon as possible. Highly recommended.

avoid at all costs unless you enjoy having mice running around your table whilst dining !! we witnessed a waiter stamp on a mouse then kick it under the bar area with a skill that has obviously been well practised

Very impressed with the Dim Sum it was the best I've had and my very hard to please Mother was equally impressed! Staff very polite. Prices are not bad all though if I was super critical the 1 king prawn in shell for £5 was very tasty but not a lot for price, don't mind paying as much if it's tasty! We are definitely going to come here again and bring friends. Thank you for lovely evening.x

Great to see Robert Owen Brown back in town and doing what he does best. The Lancashire hot pot was comfort food with a capital C while the fish and chips were crisp, tasty and generously portioned. For dessert I was drawn to the eccles cake with butterscotch sauce and was not disappointed. The Angel was quiet on our weekday early afternoon visit but I can see it getting very busy most of the time.

We went out this weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. The best surprise was when they gave a beautiful birthday cake to my friend. We ordered the banquet and it was delicious and tasty. I was so full after the meal. The service was top notch and also very friendly. Loved the restaurant it's got such a good atmosphere. I'll be back. Thank you

We went here for my birthday the other day - a group of 24 people. They were happy to let us have the table all evening, the service was great and friendly, we had the a la carte menu so we could cater for various diets/food allergies, but the kitchen coped magnificently despite the restaurant being very busy. Everyone commented on how lovely the food was, how good the service was, how good the atmosphere was. We all had a great time. And I found the chairs comfortable (nice as I have a bad back and some Italian restaurants go for those uncomfortable wooden ones). 5*.

Went in the summer, Friday night @ 5pm. Good job we booked beforehand, the place was packed to the rafters with several people waiting for a table. Food was very good, but not exceptional, service was very good with friendly and attentive staff(even though they were rushed off their feet). Would definitely go again. People who don't like very busy restaurants would probably be better off avoiding TBH.

We dined there last weekend and having not heard of the restaurant I was a little dubious - however the restaurant more than satisfied our needs. The food was excellent, the sushi inparticular which was so fresh, compliments to the chef who is doing an amazing job. Also the service is exceptional, the staff were very attentive and helpful. If you enjoy Japanese food this is a little gem of a restaurant - the next best thing to eating in Japan.
