Han

this is the worse chippy ive ever been to would highly recommend NOT to go there unless u like green frozen chips that have been sat there hours and rock hard peas that are meant to be mushy disgusting and not worth a wank

Swinton’s Fish and Chips – Swinton
Barbara

Excellent food and very attentive staff. Nice layout in the restaurant for large parties or couples. The butter chicken is gorgeous. They have some promotions that are worth a look.

I have eaten at Sul Lago many a time, mainly special occasions i.e. Birthdays, Family get-together etc. And each time, I'm reluctant to go. I try to find many poor, generic excuses one would use to get out of something I do not want to do, however, I can't let my friends or family down, can I? Arrival at Sul Lago circa 7 PM, the table booking for that particular time for a table of 16. A 20 minute wait to be seated, but not that bothered, as I mentioned above, I'm not the biggest fan of this place anyway and the longer I don't have to eat the food, the better! After perusal of the enormous menu, I bit the bullet and went for the 'better' options provided, the Chicken Liver Pate for starter and the Seafood Linguine. My better half opted for mussels in a cream and white wine sauce and a Chicken and a Parma Ham dish. A few people ordered the Salt Baked Seabass. Please allow me to provide specific details of the food below: The Chicken Liver Pate was very lumpy, was served with bitter leaves and toasted white sliced bread. No dressing on the salad at all, so was very, very bland. The dish itself could have fed 3 people as a main, never mind a starter for one. It should have been super smooth and light, served with a really nice warm, lightly toasted bread and a beautifully dressed salad to cut through the richness of the Pate. Technically very poor and ashamedly bland. The Mussels. What can I say? They were awful! Very over-cooked to the point of they were almost chalk. The uber-thick cream sauce was congealed and custard consistency didn't lift the dish, only made it worse. I wouldn't have gave it to a starving pig in fear of it being returned. The Seafood Linguine. This should have been absolutely amazing. The description of it on the menu, baked in a bag, served at the table. Mussels, clams, monkfish, prawns, langoustine, a taste of the sea, filling the air with an unmistakable aroma of fresh seafood cooked to perfection. It wasn't those things. Not one bit. It was a bag of super over-cooked matter, in a chili tomato sauce. Not the fresh pasta I had in mind; or the moist, rich seafood. No sign of monk fish at all. All very dry, all very over-cooked. Disappointment all-round. The Chicken and Parma Ham dish. Oh dear?! I have seen some sad looking dishes in my time. This however, really brought a tear to my eye. Yes, you guessed it, over-cooked. A horrible, congealed, masala sauce drowned the poor thing and to think an Italian Chef put this together? For shame, sir. For Shame! I nearly keeled over, but then, I was not surprised, as I have experience disappointment at this place every time I go. Salt Baked Seabass - Don't get me started! Roast Potatoes, Green Beans, Carrots accompany all the main courses. Silver Served like in the in 70's. Outdated, overpriced stodge that shouldn't be fed to anyone, let alone charged for it. Leathery Roast Potatoes, boiled-to-death carrots and veg. and just, well..... Yuck! It wasn't all bad. The service was better than usual and the wine wasn't poisoning anyone. Service was very charmless, but none-the-less, just ok! I believe Sul Lago has the potential to be a great neighbour-hood restaurant. It sits quietly outside a beautiful village, Woodhouse Gardens. An updated, modern Italian cuisine would go down a real treat here with the right chef on board, they could half the menu and serve quality fresh food at a better price than what they are charging currently. I believe the locals would really take to it. It would be somewhere people would eat every night of the week, instead of just weekends. I hope everyone finds this review helpful, and the owners of the restaurant actually read it and do something about the food, They've not had a change of menu for, well, forever! It's still serves the same over-priced, outdated stodge it did 10 years or more ago. There are so many better restaurants in and around Manchester at half the price of this. Such a terrible waste. My advice, go for a curry instead :)

Sul Lago – Oldham

generally cheap and cheerful but all the drinks are an absolute rip off. I was charged £1.90 for a glass or orange cordial. One visit I mentioned to the manager the party of ants marching across our table and around the window area. We were told there were no ants (and therefore called liars). Upon asking other members of staff they all said the manager was an idiot and they didn't like him. Not the greatest set up but generally the staff are really friendly and the food is good value.

The Vale – Wigan
Foodie

We heard great reviews but were sorely disappointed, sticky tables, badly needs a refurb, dirty menus, below average food and no atmosphere. We only went once and it was quiet but I assume we picked a bad time and were unlucky as I have heard some good reviews from friends

Prince William Inn – Wigan
Foodie

cheap cheerful, pleasant environment (when not full of screaming kids). Excellent value for money, although drinks are expensive - almost as much as a meal.

Bowling Green Inn – Wigan
Foodie

I've only eaten here once with a friend since it was taken over from Le Frog. I loved it - great atmosphere, v accommodating staff, the food was spectacular, I would definitely go back (shame there's no real parking or I'd go more often)

Fat Olive – Wigan
Foodie

we didn't actually eat. My partner and I called in at lunchtime, no one greeted us, we waited at the bar for 10 minutes, in that time no one came to serve us but eight children in various states of undress ran through the bar in that time. We eventually got a drink but it took so long and the staff really couldn't be bothered with us we never ended up getting any food. Place was crawling with kids and the owners/ staff clearly were utilising the entire place and a large sitting room for themselves, we were treated pretty badly! Shame as I'd heard the food was ok.

Casa Carlos – Wigan
Foodie

nice atmosphere, olde world little pub, vast menu with loads of specials. Have eaten here 4 times both lunch and dinner, food has generally been ok, meat is always a bit fatty which I hate, even when ordering strips of fillet in sauce which is hugely disappointing and has prevented me eating there any more.

Rigbye Arms Country Inn and Bistro – Wigan
Foodie

I have eaten here around 20 times over the years, never again, each time was a worse and worse experience! The service is a disgrace, the manager is the rudest little man I've ever met, steaks have several times been inedible. You are also forced to order food as soon as you walk in - before being shown to your table (ie from the bar area) which I find uncomfortable. Several of our friends have said they no longer eat here due to the terrible food and terrible service, presumably it has changed ownership at some point over the years

Rigalettos – Wigan
Foodie

good food, decent service, shame about the location and no parking but I've eaten there many times with different friends and always come out happy and stuffed :-)

Mahabharat Restaurant – Wigan
Foodie

I've eaten here many times over the years and the place has continually spiralled downhill since Simon Jones took over, the staff are rude, stroppy and some are agressive, if you leave messages no one gets back to you, they have kids waitressing and the waitresses also admin the facebook

High Moor Restaurant – Wigan
Foodie

food is cheap but generally microwaved until it is inedible, even the staff confess they don't eat the rubbish they serve. The kitchens don't even have ovens or hobs, just microwaves and a hotplate for steak.

Charnley Arms – Wigan
Bill Peacock.

I live in Canada and when I come home my first place of call is the Cheshire Line Tavern. I love this place, the food is the best and the staff are outstanding as is the beer. I will be back there again soon. I tell every one about this place, Its so good.Bill.

Went here for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant is comfy and looks very good, modern but comfortable. I like the way the restaurant is open to the bar area giving a relaxed feeling to dining here. We were welcomed warmly and drinks followed quickly. On ordering my wife had steak and I had lobster, we thought it only fitting to try both! The steak was very tender and cooked expertly. The lobster was great. I had it grilled and it really was very enjoyable. This restaurant is excellent value for money and of a very high standard. The restaurant staff were all very efficient and friendly, chatting easily with all of the customers. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner and will be returning when next in Manchester!!

Stayed at this fantastic hotel on friday night with my wife and we were both very impressed! On arrival we were welcomed and checked in effeciently and quickly. The room was a mix of modern and original features with high ceilings. It was very comfortable with every "mod-con" you could need really. We decided on lunch at the MC Cafe Bar

Ate at this great restaurant on friday night for the first time and we were not disappointed!! Everything I had heard and read about this place was spot on. Firstly, this was one of the busiest restaurants I have ever been to, a good sign!! The number of staff working ensured that although they were busy they were never rushed and someone was always on hand to pour wine or clear empty plates. It really was very well organised chaos! The food was fantastic! I ordered "Pesce Veneziana" for a starter which was very reasonably priced at £8.95. It came and was a huge pan full of scallops, clams, king prawns, mussels and fish in a very tasty tomato broth on a piece of bread soaked in the sauce. This could easily have been a main meal but was exeptional quality and so I ate it alll!! Main course was King prawn spagettini and a lasagne for the wife. Both were excellent quality and very tasty indeed. All washed down with a Chianti Reserva, this was a great experience and I can't wait to go again!!

My friends and I visited the Rivington Pub and Grill on Saturday 12th January 2013. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and in fact couldn't do enough to help us even though the venue was extremely busy and we were late! The menu is extensive and varied and reasonably priced. Our food arrived quickly and was cooked or prepared to an excellent standard. We had a perfect evening in lovely surroundings and we will definitely visit again soon. I would highly recommend the Rivington Pub and Grll!
