We booked for 4 adults, 1 teen, and 1 child on a Saturday lunch time. It is a central location as we are spread about and I looked the look of the online site and reviews so I booked. We arrived early (around 20 minutes) as traffic was light but this was not a problem for the Wheatsheaf, we were greeted with a warm welcome and given seats at our table. The building itself is quirky, old, peppered with curios and antiques and very tastefully decorated. The staff were very attentive but discrete, always available to assist but not interrupting the conversation. There are also call buttons on every table (even outside) should you require assistance but not be able to see anyone. The menu was interesting with every taste catered for, seafood, chicken, beef, veg and vegan all had options. A good selection of seasonal local produce had clearly been sourced to tempt diners. We had a variety of the choices between us, from Morecambe Bay shrimp to halloumi portions for starters, Philly steak, burger and fish for main courses. There wasn't a single thing wrong with any of the food or service. We were in the area for a special occasion and the venue and meal were prefect for the day.

the food was well presented. we had the Sunday roast. only critical point was the amount of meat ,,,, one very large slice. We added a shared pigs in blankets and some cauliflower cheese between the four of us..... Dogs were very welcome and the staff were excellent. Not cheap but good value for money...

Food was excellent, this was a family get together and you were a part way between family houses and we chose you as a place to meet. We were welcomed, shown to a more than adequate tsble. The establishment was clean. Staff friendly and efficient. Wish you were closer.

This was my first stay at The Wheatsheaf and it certainly won’t be my last! Myself, my mum and my two puppies were welcomed with open arms and my pups were spoilt rotten by the staff with lots of biscuits! The rooms were so comfortable, with satellite TV and Netflix available; a lovely bathroom with modern facilities and gorgeous vintage furniture in the bedroom, we particularly loved the duvet - it has that lovely crunch that makes you feel so cosy! Breakfast can be included in the price and you get so much for your money! The dinner menu is also lovely - I had the salmon fillet main and sticky toffee pudding for desert. If you are staying in the hotel you can even take your drinks up to your room away from the hustle and bustle of the bar! Thank you so much again for making us so welcome!

Wasn’t over impressed with the smoked mackerel pâte, but the roast beef and Yorkshire pud was excellent as was the salmon.

Lovely food, fish and chips were delicious and filling. The children’s menu was disappointing, only 3 main meal choices, not very imaginative which meant the kids meal was a bit on the expensive side.

Lovely meal with friends again at The Wheatsheaf. Very friendly and accommodating staff. We had a very leisurely afternoon (long!) Sunday lunch and then retired upstairs to the very comfortable lounge, where we were served drinks and were able to sit and chat. Excellent food and wine. Can highly recommend.
