Excellent food, far better than "normal pub grub"! Lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff. Good range of choices and very reasonably priced.

Cross Keys Inn – PenrithGreat pub in a great location on the riverside at Pooley Bridge Penrith. The Crown In has one of the best beer gardens I have sat in on a lovely summers day with the kids playing in the water. Enjoyed the local Ullswater ale too.
The Crown Inn – Pooley BridgeAnother great pub in Pooley Bridge. Packed on Saturday afternoon. We sat in the beer garden while the kids played on the slide. Great pint of Jennings bitter and a fine scampi with chunky chips. Spoiled for choice in these parts!
Sun Inn – PenrithMy family and I stayed up the road at the Waterside campsite and went to the Pooley Bridge Inn for food and beers. We were not disappointed and really enjoy their 'funday' that had on Saturday. Would return and recommend.
Pooley Bridge Inn – PenrithWe ate in The Crown Inn last Sunday evening (26 July) and enjoyed a fab meal.
Crown Inn – PenrithWe visited the NT tea room at Aira Force on 23 July 2015 and were impressed with the cleanliness of the cafe, quality of food on offer and the lovely, helpful staff serving it. My teenage niece is a vegan and was thrilled to be able to enjoy the chocolate and coconut flapjack. So often there is little available for her when we eat out. There were tables outside as well but it was a bit too chilly that day.
Aira Force Tea Rooms – PenrithMy family like visiting the Lakes for walking holidays and Pooley Bridge is one of our favourite places to visit as its so beautiful and we love the ferry round Ullswater. I've visited Granny Dowbekins multiple times and there hasn't been a single time that I've been disappointed in the quality of service, food or location. The staff are all lovely and made me feel very welcome, the food is delicious (best gingerbread this side of London), and the location next to the river is very calming and especially pretty on a sunny day. If you happen to be passing through or nearby Pooley Bridge I recommend that you stop by and pick up a cake/sandwich and a doggy bag if you have a dog.
Granny Dowbekins – PenrithMe and wife called in this morning, had full breakfast and I can say one of the best breakfasts we have ever had and we are in our 50's.
The Bewick Coffee House & Bistro – PenrithMe and wife called in this morning, had full breakfast and I can say one of the best breakfasts we have ever had and we are in our 50's.
The Bewick Coffee House & Bistro – PenrithMy husband and I visited the Little Chef Penrith on 16 May 2015. On arrival staff polite and friendly, food excellent and property clean. Well done, would recommend.
Little Chef – PenrithDougs Diner is the place you want to go for a fantastic cooked meal, whether it be your breakfast or evening meal. The food is piping hot and of great quality. It is not a place only for the lorry drivers, get yourself down there the food is excellent. Proper home cooking and cheaper than going to McDonalds lol.
Dougs Diner – PenrithA large – and filthy – party had spent the morning quad-biking at the nearby Rookin House Activity Centre so I don’t think it was ideal that we all rocked up unannounced for a drink and a late lunch. That said, the staff coped admirably sorting out drinks for us all and then large plates of mixed sandwiches and chips which were it the spot perfectly. The pub is just off the main A66 Penrith-Keswick road and ideal for a quick drink or meal.
Sportsmans Inn – PenrithTwenty two of us were staying for a fabulous long weekend at nearby Blencowe Hall and on the Friday night descended on the Boot and Shoe in Greystoke for an evening meal in their private dining room. It’s the kind of traditional country pub you would love to have near where you lived and on a chilly December evening was ever so warm and welcoming. It’s not a big place and the staff did really well to cope with us all; everything ran very smoothly and nothing was too much trouble. Bearing in mind we did not pre-order and that they have a large a la carte menu it was quite the achievement. The food was lovely and the atmosphere too. Highly recommended.
Boot and Shoe Inn – PenrithWe chose to go here for a cream tea as a food break on a long walk. What a massive mistake. The tea was weak and hugely over priced. The scones were served with double cream not clotted cream!!! This does not deserve to be called a tea room.
Aira Force Tea Rooms – PenrithHi. All had fish and chips here 4.1.2014. 1pm. Over cooked chips. And fish that was mainly batter? Looked good but was not nice at all. Let down. don't know how they can claim to be a good chippy!
Townhead Chippy – PenrithThe Crown Inn is a vibrant local pub selling a selection of good wines, spirits, excellent real ales, Italian style coffee and wonderful food. It is unusual in that you can combine an inviting English country pub experience, open fire, a warm welcome from hosts Tony and Becky with fantastic Italian food. Lovely pizzas, pastas are a speciality as well as the range of other delicious foods such as steaks, fish and specials. Try this spot. You will not be disappointed. One visit and you will be hooked. Be sure to book. They are busy but very keen to fit you in. They will serve you well. 01768 870 410
Crown Inn – PenrithAlways great.
Fusion Cafe – PenrithDined at the restaurant for the first time with family from Oz. Food and service second to none. It was great to sit outside in the lovely patio area catching the last rays of the sun with our pre dinner drinks. We have returned several times at weekends and also taken advantage of the midweek menu which is superb valve for money, not one to be missed. I have now booked for a family christening and works xmas party. This is the place to be if you like good food and great atmosphere.
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithSunday Lunch: Main course, £16.95; 2 courses, £22.95; 3 courses, £26.95.
