Very nice welcoming place to go out. Good atmosphere and friendly service, with good food. Regards Joanna
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithNice to see a typical tea room. The homemade soup was lovely .We were made to feel very welcome. It was raining when we were there ,but we had a peep in the garden out the back ,and cant wait ti go back when its sunny.highly recommend it.
Ice Cream Garden – PenrithThe food was disappointing. The risotto that I had just did not seem to have had any flavour added. The 4 cheese pizza my husband had was very greasy and lacked any cheese favour and the pizza was small for the money. On balance I could have cooked the meal myself better at home. The wine was lacking too. Overall I would not return.
Giannis Pizzeria – PenrithThanks for the scrambled eggs also the lemon drizzle cake we ate it on the way home. Love to Auntie Betty.
Country Coffee Shop – PenrithReally comfortable. Great food, wonderful hospitality
The Bewick Coffee House & Bistro – PenrithReally comfortable. Great food, wonderful hospitality
The Bewick Coffee House & Bistro – PenrithWOW! What a place, hadn't heard such great things about it off quite a few local people but thought id try it for myself. The food was amazing. Lots of choice, 4 of us went about three weeks ago for an evening meal & I cant wait to go back. I had the pork belly which was fantastic but my girlfriend had a rib eye steak & my mate had a sirloin both of which I was very envious of. They looked so good & after tasting some of the rib eye I already know what I am having next time!!! King Prawns, Rib Eye & Cheesecake Please!!! Looking forward to it foundry with steaks like that you'll be packed out with locals in no time. People need to give the place a go before they try and put people off. Service was friendly but could be a bit quicker so I would agree on that point.
Foundry 34 – PenrithWas recently walking in the Haweswater area and stopped for food after a great day out around Harter Fell, Ill Bell etc. The real ales were fantastic and the food I have to say was brilliant especially the fish dishes, we ended up staying the night in a very comfortable room 3 and went back couple of weeks later with some friends - great find and loved the place, well worth a visit
Crown and Mitre Hotel – PenrithWe have visited foundry 34 quite a few times now, the food is of a very very high standard. The puddings are fab & they bake their own bread which we always enjoy, the steaks are amazing, fillet and rib eye are the best we have had anywhere. The service however is a big problem, you never know how it is going to go on some occasions we have waited well over 20 minutes before receiving a drink or a menu even after reserving a table? then another 20-30 minutes to get our order taken. This does put us off but the food is that good it does encourage us to return as we find it hard to enjoy steaks anywhere else! The place itself is very nice. I prefer to sit downstairs but my wife likes the booths in the upstairs restaurant as she feels the bar isn't very cosy. The service problems do stop us from taking friends there as it is very bad & does need a major revamp - every new place has teething problems though.
Foundry 34 – PenrithAtmosphere so relaxing, staff friendly and unobtrusive and the food out of this world. Not an extensive menu however the description of each dish mouthwatering. The steak was perfection melted in the mouth. It's true you get what you pay for and this surpassed all expectations. A true gem, will certainly be back.
Grants Of Castlegate – Penrithi eat here with my mam a couple of months ago it was amazing i'm going to book for this Saturday hopefully they have places! but my mams been there a few times and she loves it! its the best Spanish restaurant I've been too and i go to Spain a lot! the foods brilliant and good value for money the portions are too big for just one but sometimes its that good you could just eat it all! the service is just as good real good Spanish atmosphere and i love that they are dressed up in the proper Spanish costumes makes it even better!
Costas – PenrithI like this place overall. However the down sides are that it lacks soul and the rooms are overpriced for what they are. It's situated near Penrith and the refurbishment of the pub was a big one. It has the modern/rustic feel that the new generation of pubcos have. Unique in the area but becoming formulaic now. The menu is small and tight with most bases covered and we enjoyed our food. The service was professional and friendly too. We didnt like the rooms particularly. They were small and soulless. The top room was £145 and represented the worst value of our 4 day trip around the lakes. The George and Dragon is owned by the Lowther family and you would have thought that would get you free entry into the castke nearby, rather than the £5 entry fee. The whole vibe was very much a business rather than a homely labour of love. In short I would eat there however there are many better places to stay nearby and in much better locations.
George and Dragon – PenrithGreat coffee and scones here in the middle of a castle!
Fusion Cafe – PenrithOhhh what a place to eat. We come to the Lakes twice a year for a nice break and always visit The George and Dragon now, when we are here. It has never let us down on service and lovely food. I have to say the chocolate Pot is something i always finish my meal with and will do everytime, if it stays on the menu.. I will be visiting The George and Dragon weekend 5th August and cant wait.. X
George and Dragon – PenrithQuite a good meal with my wife. Service was slow but the staff were friendly and Angela very helpful, young drinkers unfortunately ruined the atmosphere with bad language & rude behaviour later on in the evening. Would prefer to sit in the bar like we have on previous occasions to eat as the restaurant isnt the cosiest even though it has just been refurbished and the bar has a lovely log fire & old fashioned features. Desserts were a let down for me as they were not homemade as before but still an ok quality just lacking the wow factor to finish off on.
Black Swan Inn – PenrithPopped in for an early evening meal, a little disappointed to hear the young couple who have had it left in January, however the meal was nice & service ok too. The food isn't quite as specialist as before so if you are more of a foodie & you have been before you will notice a big difference, just not as rustic & homemade as the previous offerings but nice all the same.
Black Swan Inn – PenrithEnjoyed my lunch here yesterday! Great spot, may stay the night next time.
Black Swan Inn – PenrithAll food on menu is from the pub owner's farms, and that's easy to spot in the quality of the dishes they serve. Great food and reasonable prices, service is polite and discreet... and they have roaring fires! Highly recommended, try the sausage and mash or the beef pie. Didn't try any of the beers but they had a decent selection on.
George and Dragon – PenrithSunday Lunch: Main course, £16.95; 2 courses, £22.95; 3 courses, £26.95.
