Atmosphere and food fantastic, lovely meal, lovely evening, heavily recommend!!!!
Grants Of Castlegate – Penrithour car broke down en route to Scotland, and boy are we glad it did. We were greeted like long lost friends and made to feel so so welcome. My husband had sea bass while i had a sirloin steak. The meal was excellent as was the service and we shall definately make sure we stop on the way back! An excellent well run operation.
Station Hotel Bar and Restaurant – PenrithThis restaurant is a hidden gem you don't know what you've discovered till you get to the top, and it is at the top of a hill, food out of this world and staff so accommodating, without a doubt the best restaurant in Penrith. Bob West Yorkshire
Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithMy wife and I dined at the Troutbeck Inn on 26/09/08 and had the finest meal we have ever had.We have booked to return with a friend in 2 weeks. The ambience was perfect and the staff very attentive and helpful. It will definitely be one of our regular treats.
Troutbeck Inn – PenrithI stopped at this hotel approximately 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful stay. I had a Lamb Henry with mint gravy for my supper and it was exactly how i was hoping for and more... i would recommend this place any day.
Agricultural Hotel – PenrithFantastic and the best Indian food by far i have tasted!!! TOP notch nosh!
Indiagate – Penriththis place is a rip off, when we went there were police there arresting the owner for selling drink to people who are under age and then charging a fortune on their bill. the owner is rude and very nasty as we asked for the bill he had a go and said that we never had starters or desert so he added an extra 25.00 on the bill, what is all that about?????? the best place to go is cagneys in poenrith it is alwys busy and never lets people dovn. the takeaways are fantastic and the company of the owner (hawk) is very nice to talk to i wish i went here first instead of wasting my night and money in indiagate. STAY AWAY FROM INDIAGATE
Indiagate – PenrithFood O.K. but menu very limited, good selection of beers. Staff - Unhelpful, rude, arrogant The place - lovely location but the toilets have not been cleaned in months, (human excrement on the toilet cubicle walls) just hope the kitchen is a little cleaner! I would not recommend this establishment!
Pooley Bridge Inn – PenrithExcellent menu, with specials, lively Italian style, friendly staff, great fun, great food, good value
Giannis Pizzeria – PenrithHaving recently moved into the area, finding this pub as our local is a delight. It's welcome is always warm and personal, the beers are well kept, the food is excellent with a good solid menu and some inventive specials. Nice beer garden for sunny days. Well done to Ben and Jen who have recently taken over.
Boot and Shoe Inn – PenrithAfter reading the glowing reports on sugarvine about this pub i thought I'd give it a go so booked a table last saturday 28th June. I must say I really enjoyed it although it was very busy the standard of food was excellent. I had the Grilled Anchovies with Fresh Rocket & Parmesan for my starter & my partner enjoyed the Homemade Chicken Liver Pate which was very tasty. We then had the Duck Breast with a Blueberry Jus & a Fantastic Sirloin Steak which they hang there at the pub for at least 30days, we couldn't resist trying it once we'd read the description! The homemade chips with the Sirloin were the best Id tasted! Couldn't manage a dessert each so as instructed by the previous person that recommended the Black Swan we had a Lemon Tart between us and it was lovely. They are starting a Smoke House but unfortunately did not have anything ready for the specials board on saturday - I was told they were smoking things this week so I might be back to give it a go. The Staff were very attentive, the two young ladies in the restaurant although very busy made sure everything was just right & the young lady hosting was very friendly and had everything under control. A lovely hassle free meal in smart, clean surroundings!
Black Swan Inn – PenrithThe Black Swan is friendly & traditional the food is spot on! I particularly enjoy my slowly roasted pork belly with a Sultana, Ginger & Fresh Herb Dressing! Delicious! I really liked the fact that everything is local, homemade & fresh - the Lemon Tart is a must! Accommodation is outstanding much more than you would expect from a "pub". The Staff are so helpful, I would recommend the Black Swan to anyone wanting a relaxing break either on their own or with a partner. Ask for room 1 - Pea Top its perfect!
Black Swan Inn – PenrithUndoubtedly the best Indian food and genuine Indian knowledge in the area! The place to go if you want an actual Indian meal with actual Indian service! No where better!
Indiagate – PenrithI had the misfortune to visit this place in May 2008. The bar service was poor . The beer was flat We only had bar meals ie two sandwiches and small a portion of chips which cost £2.45. The pub owners in Cumbria think they can rip off passing motorists without them batting an eyelid. Think again
Sportsmans Inn – PenrithNice atmosphere and great food!Live music played on some dates.
Cafe Fifteen – PenrithI worked at the Lowther Arms for sometime and it is one of the best pubs to eat in Penrith. The food is just great and there is a wide selection so everyone can be happy! I love the giant Yorkshire pudding, yum yum! It also has a great feel to it, it is like how pubs used to be!
Lowther Arms – PenrithWent for a 20 booked family Sunday lunch in December 2007. Found the service very slow between courses, the portions small and cold, the gravy tasteless. The sweet choice was limited and the custard was school thick lumpy and cold. All the meals had something wrong, veg over cooked and soft etc. Advised at the bar when paying not happy and no discount offered, not interested so will not be going back.
Stoneybeck Inn – PenrithWe spotted The Herdwick's website and made a booking for a cosy weekend break and was not let down. Well appointed rooms, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere in the bar and great food in the restaurant and change in my pocket too. A great weekend and we would advise all to make a visit
Herdwick Inn – PenrithSunday Lunch: Main course, £16.95; 2 courses, £22.95; 3 courses, £26.95.
