Y Sgwar – PorthmadogMy mum and I visited this restaurant for dinner during my visit back to UK from New Zealand. I was amazed by the quality of the food and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant - so impressed!!

Y Sgwar – PorthmadogDuring our recent trip to Wales, we had the pleasure of dining at Y Sgwâr in the small town of Tremadog. Y Sgwâr immediately impressed us with its warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor struck a perfect balance between cozy and stylish, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed yet refined dining experience. On our first visit, the quality of the food was so good that we canceled our reservation at another restaurant and returned the next night. The menu was diverse, offering a wide variety of options that catered to different tastes and preferences. Each dish was crafted with care, and the flavors were both rich and nuanced. One of the highlights of our visit was the exceptional service provided by the host. He was witty, knowledgeable, and friendly, adding a personal touch that enhanced our dining experience. His insights into the menu and recommendations were invaluable, and his engaging personality made us feel truly welcome. We spent two wonderful evenings at Y Sgwâr, enjoying not only the delicious food but also the delightful company and impeccable service. I wholeheartedly recommend Y Sgwâr to anyone visiting the area of Porthmadog, Porthmeirion and Harlech.

Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWell what can I say, what a beautiful meal we both had for our 5th anniversary. We were greeted with a smile, a glass of fizz and the owner wishing us happy anniversary along with all of the waitresses too. Overall a great decision on restaurant choice for our special occasion, loved it, thanks guys x.

Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe had dinner at Y Sgwar on Wednesday 19th June and, as always, it was a wonderful experience. Delicious food and drink, great atmosphere and the most amazing service. It is quite our favourite place it dine. Would highly recommend a visit.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogY Sgwar was recommended by our accomodation hosts....and what a recommendation it was! We visited on 14th June 24. This is a gem of a place to eat. Extensive selection of food and drinks are available. We had Tempura king prawns and Shetland mussels to start and Rump of Welsh lamb as a main. All dishes were prepared to perfection and were delicious. Portion sizes were large and the service from all the staff could not be faulted.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogSunday lunch was very good. We had the lamb and it was very tasty and cooked to our taste. The vegetables were done just right. We liked the atmosphere and staff were very efficient. Would definitely recommend.
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogNew early bird menu - fabulous as always!
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWell, there aren't enough positive adjectives to describe our recent experience on 13th June 2024 at Y Sgwar. The service was top notch. It was quick, efficient, nothing too much trouble and very friendly staff. The environment had great decor and was a pleasant surprise. From the outside it doesn't look much, but inside the room was well decorated, the tables had enough space between them, there was a welcoming comfortable seating area as you walked in. The lighting was ambient and it was warm without being uncomfortably so. The food was great value for money. We all chose the duck with a most gorgeous plum jus, puree and vegetables in the cost (not extra). I could, however, have chosen at least another 5 or 6 mains. What made it even better were that almost all the meals were gluten free, which for my Mum who has no choice in this, was heaven. So many eating establishments offer may be one or two GF options. Had we found this place sooner, we would have been there every night. Local ingredients, cooked well, just the right portion size and delicious! One Welsh word sums it up: ardderchog excellent).
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogBwyd yn ardderchog a y gwasanaeth hefyd, lle cartrefol iawn .
Y Sgwar – PorthmadogWe visited, a party of 4, on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was full. The food was excellent and the service friendly and helpful. One person has Coeliac Disease (me!) and it was so good to have such a wide range of suitable dishes to choose from. My main course was duck, beautifully presented with a swirl of butternut squash puree, a delicious portion of dauphinoise potatoes and a tasty plum sauce. I had asked for the accompanying greens to be soft as I don't like crunchy vegetables and they were perfect. Everyone was pleased with their choices and we all wished we could return but were only in the area for one night.
