This was our fourth visit to this excellent restaurant and has become a must for my family and I, every time we are in North Wales. The staff are attentive but not overbearing and the food is simply stunning. A lot of really good, tasty dishes to choose from and great wines abs beers too. If ever you want great food at a reasonable price in delightful surrounding then this is the place. We will definitely be back.

Gorgeous restaurant with attentive staff and great food. Staying locally it was an obvious choice, and we weren't disappointed. I'd highly recommend and definately return next time we're in the area.

Wow all I can say , it was my first time in Wales and did not have any great expectation, one of the ladies from our group booked the table hence I knew nothing of the restaurant. We arrived very tired after a day of walking Devils kitchen and I can say that despite this our experience was incredible, the food was amazing the chicken.liver starter and the duck were perfect combined with a glass of Malbec was just perfect . Saying this the service made half of the experience as well , am afraid I am.unsure of the name but Yolan made our night unforgettable! Thank you and definitely coming back to this full of Character amazing place

It was our first visit to this restaurant as we were staying in the village and were celebrating my husband's birthday. It was an excellent experience from start to finish. There was a warm welcome when we arrived, the service throughout was very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious, we all ordered different dishes and our group included vegetarians, vegans and gluten free and all were catered for beautifully. The final very pleasant surprise was the cost which was extremely reasonable. All in all, a great evening

We had dinner here on 16th May. It was my husband’s birthday and I wanted somewhere special to celebrate. We were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the service impeccable and the meal was good value for money. We were only visiting for a couple of days but, if we came back to the area, we would love to eat here again. A real gem of a restaurant.

We ate at Y Sgwàr on Wednesday 15th May the food was outstanding and excellent value for money will definitely return!

We visited this restaurant for the first time today and it won’t be the last. We enjoyed a simply delicious 2 course Sunday lunch….could not manage a dessert as we had no room left! We both had a simple prawn cocktail as starter. This was fresh, tasty and well presented. We then had the roast beef dinner which came with lots o& yummy vegetables plus a gorgeous cauliflower cheese. Service was attentive and good.

We ate on Wednesday 8th May 2024. Wonderful food as usual. We have eaten here many times over the years and we always have perfectly cooked, beautifully presented and tasty food. I had the lamb and it melted in your mouth. Lorraine looked after us and gave us a table with privacy as I am a type 1 diabetic, so I could inject my insulin without disturbing other diners. We had a glass of the house Merlot and it was divine. I wished that we booked a taxi and ordered a bottle! Thank you again, we will be back.

Spent a few days staying near Porthmadoc and so eat at several different restaurants. All were good but Y Sgwar was excellent. Lovely building set in the village square with plenty of parking outside. We ate there on a busy Saturday evening and the place was full of people obviously enjoying themselves. The menu was extensive and catered for all tastes. I had one of the best, perhaps the best, rib-eye stakes I've ever had. Cooked to perfection. Out of the deserts, the pavlova with white chocolate ice-cream was delicious. If in the area we would go again.

Visited the restaurant during a week's stay in porthmadog. The service and quality of the food was faultless. By far the best we had during our week in North Wales

We had a great meal at Y Shear. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. We had the early bird menu that was good value for the quality of food.

Excellent food, atmosphere, service & value. Good enough to lure us back to North Wales very soon.

We haven’t visited for about 11 yrs, I saw that it was still owned by the same people. So celebrating a friend’s birthday, we booked our table for four. Well the food was even better than we remembered with great service. Glad we made the effort and will visit again if we come back to the area.

If you find yourself in the Snowdon area then I would heartily recommend booking this restaurant. We won’t hesitate to book it again. We couldn’t fault anything about this meal, the atmosphere, the friendliness of the staff nor the value for money. The whisky sauce on my chicken was the highlight for me. We booked it as a treat after doing Snowdon and had to come straight from the mountain, as we were a little late coming down. We probably weren’t the best presented customers but you wouldn’t know it. My only regret is not being able to finish the pavlova, with white chocolate ice cream. It was delicious but my eyes were bigger than my belly. Every course was of an extremely high quality and perfectly presented. Definitely a top restaurant.
