Preston in Lancashire is a cosmopolitan city located on the River Ribble and is also the home of the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). Many restaurants and food pubs can be found in the city centre and its suburbs.

Went to bukara restaurant when it first opened and didn't really rate it small portions and service not to clever, then went recently again given every body deserves a second try teething probs ect, well if you have never been to a halal restaurant give it a try these guys have stepped up to 2008 standards leaving your usual curry houses with there flock wall paper typical tasteless curries with no genuine spices for those who know there apni (indian)curries.. well done guys very modern Indian cuisine along with exceptional service.

Really disappointing - the worst Indian meal we have ever tasted. We had two main courses, rice and side dish and everything tasted the same - of nothing! As if the chef had a pot of sauce - gravy with some chilli added - and he used that for all the dishes. No spices, no flavour. Very disappointing as the restaurant was lovely, the service fine.

Tino's food is fantastic, everything I ate was delicious, my partner wasn't keen on the soup as it was too watery but I enjoyed it, the garlic mushrooms were also spot on. Also expect to wait a while in the bar before you are seated as it does get extremely busy. I will defo be going again and I'm confident enough to try a different dish off the menu. It's the best Italian I have ever been to.

We live in Thornton, both retired and spend most of our spare time looking for good restaurants - the Italian Orchard is by far our favourite because of the atmosphere, value for money and choice

We live in Blackpool where there is no shortage of Italians but regularly make the trip out to the Italian Orchard. Food is good and a great choice with the main a la carte to go off as well as a long list of specials. Same applies to the wine. Service efficient but the clincher is the atmosphere -- despite being massive it's always busy and there is always a real buzz here which is just what you want from an Italian (Tiggis in St Annes is similar in terms of the buzz). Great for the kids too with loads of space to run around outside as well as a play area. Only slight downer is the noise from the M6 which runs right past the restaurant but once you are inside you don't notice anyway.

Food is excellent, brilliant service. I have visited this restaurant about a dozen times - not had a bad experience yet! Got my recommendation.

FANTASTIC!!! My wife and I dined with three other couples a few months back. Firstly, eight of us turned up to the Houghton restaurant after booking at the other Thyme restaurant in longridge. It was a very busy Saturday night but they didn't turn us away, they sat us in the bar area (Small but sufficient) and offered us drinks whilst they sorted things out. We were worried looking at how busy it was that there would be a long wait but they managed somehow to sort a table out after about ten minutes. This was fine by me as it gave me time to look through the mouth-watering menu and enjoy my tanqueray gin and tonic (served to perfection by the young gentleman on the bar who later impressed us with his wine-serving skills). Secondly i'd like to mention that before I went to the restaurant I read the reviews on this site. I had before tried to book a table (At the hoghton restaurant and had not been able to get a table as it was so busy. only one of the couples had been before and they said it was great. reading the views i got a mixed impression of what i was to expect. Some great comments followed by some worrying signs. Incorrect glassware and no atmosphere! I was totally blown away with how wrong these comments were. Every table had both a red and a white glass in every place and the retaurant was bustling away with a great atmosphere. I too thought the wine menu was a little short and a little on the cheaper side. When i mentioned this too the young gentleman who was about to serve the wine I had chosen, he explained that a premier wine list was in the works and listed the premium bottels of wine that they stocked. he knew his stuff and chose a fantastic bottle of wine for me and my brother-in-law to share. All the staff were well presented and truly were an asset to the restaurant. I have been told that there is a cut down version of the menu that isn't available on a saturday but is a great price. i had absoulutely no issue with the price and was infact supprised to pay so little. one of the couples in our party had a hi-life card and they got a meal for free which seems generous enough.

We were a party of 20 holding our club's annual award dinner. The menu was superb, dietary preferences were catered for, and the service was excellent. Great value for money, and we're already planning to hold our dinner there next year. Highly recommended.

We visited this restaurant having read a good review in the Evening Post. We arrived to a warm welcome and were immediately taken to our table upstairs where upon our drinks order was taken within a couple of minutes..a litre of house red £13.My partner and I decided to share the meze at £16.50 per person,it consisted of 5 or 6 cold dips, vine leaves and Turkish bread, followed by 3 hot starters-spicey sausage, grilled haloumi and a filo cheese parcel...everything was freshly prepared and delicious. Our main course was equally delicious and consisted of grilled chicken, lamb, salad and rice. Our friends opted for the avocado and prawn starter followed by the moussaka, they were extremely happy with their choices also. Our meze ended with a plate of fresh fruit and we all had a coffee. The total cost for the meal which included all the above food,2 lites of a perfectly reasonable house red and 4 coffees was £95. We will definitely be back to sample the delicious food and enjoy the friendly relaxing atmosphere and service..go on, give it a visit!!

My wife and I have been eating at "SMITHS ARMS" for the past 12 months. It is always clean and warm even in winter with roaring fires. The food is excellent, but be warned the portions are large, there is an over 60,s smaller portion menu £7.50 for two courses excellent value,Only down side - for 12 months the vegetables have been the same peas and carrots. Please chef can we have a change.

Stay away would be my recommendation. Staff who can't remember orders, sluggish, if friendly service. And the Hunter's Chicken? Carbonised chicken covered with leathern bacon, rubbery cheese and smothered in sickly "woodsmoke" BBQ sauce - which had also found its way into the sauce on the stuffed pork. Awful, truly awful.

WENT TO THE RESTAURANT ON THUR 07 FEB 08 ORDERED A CHICKEN KARAHI. THE CHICKEN WAS FATTY AND THEY USED THIGH MEAT WHICH WAS NOT MENTIONED ON THE MENU. WHEN WE COMPLAINED THEY SAID THAT IS HOW THEY MAKE IT HERE. THOUGHT IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT WE ORDERED. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT AND WOULD NOT GO AGAIN AS WE THOUGHT THAT THEY DID NOT DEAL WITH THE COMPLAINT AT ALL.

Citizen Newspaper report: "Inn wins best restaurant in county Hoghton restaurant, Thyme at The Sirloin Inn, has won the Hi-life Dinners Club award for best restaurant in Lancashire. The award was presented to Wayne Keough, co-owner and general manager of the restaurant, by Noddy Holder, of Slade fame, at a star-studded event at the Hilton Hotel in London on Friday. It beat over a thousand other restaurants in the county for this, the latest in a string of awards it has won, including best newcomer, best chef, and best brasserie." Congratulations to the Thyme on their fully justified award. I have been visiting this restaurant for a number of years since its opening and cannot fault it. I have recommended it to numerous friends, family and acquaintances who, without exception, have not been disappointed. The food is of high quality, the ambience extremely convivial and the service second to none. I hope this award does not mean an increase in prices!

As we are looking forward to our family holiday to Turkey later on this year,we decided to banish the winter blues with a reminder of holidays past at Tottos.I had read reviews on this site prior to making the booking, and was hopeful of finding an authentic corner of Turkey here in Lancashire. It was a very wet and windy Saturday evening when myself and the present Mrs.FoodFan where blown through the front door of Tottos and into the bright interior of this welcoming restaurant. We where met by friendly and attentive staff who were eager to please, but at no time became intrusive. After a quick look at the wine list,we chose a bottle of the house red at the little excessive price of £11.95.We then looked through a menu that covered all bases, whether familiar with Turkish food or the total novice, there appeared something to tempt all palates. What did seem excellent value at only £16.50,was the "special meze".For anyone unfamiliar with this Turkish trial by food, think of the worlds largest buffet menu(a bit of this,a bit of that...)all to yourself, then double it.Meze meals in Turkey have been known to last hours...and hours. With happy memories of meze's eaten in harbour side restaurants in Alanya and Bodrum,we went for the meze. We were not disappointed. The first round of starters consisted of dips of hummus, yoghurt with mint and garlic(basically an Indian ritta),tomatoes puried with mild chillies, along with dolmus(stuffed vine leaves)all accompanied by a basket of bread. After this my belt was let out a notch! Next up was the hot starters, slices of lightly fried haloumi cheese with adana kebap slices and what appeared to be spring roll type offerings with subtle flavoured rice inside, all delicious.Along with more bread and the ubiquitous salad this was becoming a form of unique torture! Just when you feel you couldn't manage another thing....more turns up!Next was the grilled meat selection.Turkey is rightly proud of its reputation of knowing its way around a charcoal grill, and on the strength of this, its reputation will remain intact.Pieces of grilled chicken and steak served on a bed of rice, all cooked to perfection. With the finish line in-sight,we where faced with the arduous task of eating a dessert of sliced strawberries, kiwi, banana, melon and grapes;all fresh, all tasty. Two coffee's later,we paid the very reasonable sum of £59.55 for two mezes, one cheesecake, two coffee's,two beers and a bottle of acceptable house red wine. All in all,a lovely meal in pleasent surroundings. If you've never tried Turkish food,or you're looking for something different, try Tottos I'm sure you'll love it.8/10

I took some friends along to the Thyme during the Christmas period. They were visiting from overseas and expressed enormous pleasure at the quality of food, cleanliness, value for money [after translating Euros], friendliness and yet professionalism of the staff. It is an exceptional restaurant worthy of my comments. I would not hesitate in recommending this restaurant as amongst the top ones in Lancashire and suggest that no-one will be disappointed if they were to dine there.
