Two of us dined in the evening on 19th Sept. We were very pleased with the food and the wine. The service, however, was lousy. From sitting down to being presented with our main course took 75 minutes. No apology was offered; the restaurant wasn't full either. We'd heard such good things about the place, but came away disappointed.

The food was very nice with the perfect portion size . The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were welcoming. Unfortunately I find myself having to comment on COVID-19, I was very disappointed to find a relaxed approach to safety measures within the restaurant. Social distancing could have been better, staff could have worn face mask/shields or both. It’s disappointing but I won’t be back in the restaurant until either control measures are improved or the COVID-19 issue is under control. Take to virus comments out of the review and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Fat Loaf.

A proper hidden gem, tucked away in Ashton on Mersey, we had a lovely meal here. After drooling over the meals we saw brought out, we chose spiced lamb and prawns to start, followed by the chicken risotto and lamb (after seeing how good it looked) and weren't disappointed, the food was very tasty and beautifully presented, the staff friendly and helpful and not bad value either, we had a really nice evening.

My family and I had a delicious meal at the fat loaf for my birthday. The food was excellent, drinks range was great and service was friendly. Really enjoyed it!

We recently had a fantastic meal here! Everything was delicious and so affordable, the staff were attentive and happy to have a chat. We had an issue with the online booking system but when I rang to check my booking they were able to sit us in the bar area even though the booking hadn’t worked. Would definitely recommend a visit here!

We ate here on a balmy Friday evening in August, windows wide open and the atmosphere was great. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. The chicken risotto main course was cooked to perfection.

We visited the Fat Loaf for Sunday lunch again, our starters- the mushrooms, and the king prawns were excellent. The roast lamb was delicious and such a generous portion too! I love eating here, friendly staff, great quality food perfectly cooked and wine at a sensible price! We’ll be back again very soon.

Had a lovely evening. First time out since the beginning of March. The food was excellent, and the staff even better. Felt very safe, and will defiantly be going back.

On Saturday 1st August we went to the Fat Loaf for a meal for the first time in 4 months. What a transformation! The whole place has been redecorated, doors and walls moved to create different spaces and new furniture. New sofas divide the tables, much more comfortable and distancing meant we felt very safe. The food was fabulous and quite different to "pub food". We have never had a bad meal at the Fat Loaf and congratulate Tim, Therese and team on their continued high standards. Well worth a visit. (Also if you have special dietary needs just let them know, nothing is too much trouble.)

Very nice meals and good service. A little noisy due to the lack of soft furnishings, carpets, curtains etc. But will definitely return.

The Fat Loaf is always friendly, has excellent service and - most importantly - the food is superb! I would (and frequently do) recommend them to anyone!
