Having dined at Chans for over 20 years I would say the experience I get everytime is 2nd to none the food is always fresh and taste's fantastic, Charlie and Loi are always very welcoming hosts and go out of their way to help with any needs you have, I do advise that you book your tables especially for the weekend as is does get busy,I look foward to each time I eat out with the wife even more so when its chans.

Went there recently with a friend, Jan 2013. Will not go back, simple food, over priced - well over priced. Service not too bad. Not the same place as it was a couple of years ago...very disappointed as i hadn't been out with my friend for a while, a big let down.

Have visited this restaurant on many occasions, and have always been impressed with the quality of the food. There is a nice ambiance, the owner(who is almost always in attendance) and his staff are very attentive and friendly. We are particularly impressed with the way they deal with the special dietary requirements for two of our usual party who are stricken with multiple food allergies. A visit here is always an enjoyable experience.

All our family use to come here with our mother for many years, sadly in 1994 our mother pasted away, I moved to another country, & in 2007 I returned to England , we now live in Liverpool we where going out for something to eat so we decided to call at the Charcoal , even though it was very sad for me, with my mother being with us ordering her APPLE PIE & CUSTARD it brought a lot of lovely memories back to me , remembering the good times we had & how very special just going for a meal with someone you love is. The meal was EXCELLENT & of course I had apple pie & custard. Now as we are back living in the North West I certainly will bring my children & grandchildren & carry on the great memories, thank you so much for making my night a night I will never forget. The staff are very helpful it is a great place to have a great meal & very good value for money.

First visited the restaurant last friday and was welcomed and enjoyed the gorgeous food, even though I was stuffed and left a bit. Decided to take the kids back on the sunday and then tonight we got a takeaway!!! the food is amazing, fresh, tasty and healthy. Staff are really welcoming and attentive. 5 stars!!!

Best ever place, me and my family have been to for a nosh up meal of soup and main courses of mixing your meats and rices together and of course your ribs are delicious. Barbacue and all your currys are scrumptious and yummy. Our family all enjoy eating because it is all that you can eat....and we spend nearly 2hrs enjoying the food till we are full, really full.....we usually go in on saturdays with me mum and her man friend....we dont get fed at home, we get fed at yours Hong Sing, at a reasonable price, at different times of the day......love Jacqueline xx your friend,,,,,,

Would agree with all previous comments - have been several times this year and can't wait to go back. Am even looking at a large party booking next month with belly dancing if we share the cost with the restaurant.

I have never complained about the food or the service its execellent, and great value for money. Also had family meels here up to 20 of us an they still get the food to you all and no waiting. I visited the Hong Sing this evening with my husband this evening, and was disgusted by the lack of choice for none meat eaters. I asked what choice was available and i got a bowl off rice , mixed vegetable's and noodles (what a buffet ) then they had a cheek to charge me full price £9.00 a very expensive 3 items.

My partner and I went this evening to the east orient buffet in St Helens. There wasn’t a decent selection of dishes, just the basics you would expect to find in any poor quality buffet. The PLASTIC plates were GREASY, it was proper disgusting, and ridiculously small and cold.In the restaurant it was incredibly hot, and the air con was off. There were flies flying all over our heads and food, it was really, really nasty. And the same songs played every 5 minutes. We had only heard and read bad reviews about this restaurant but we like to judge for ourselves so we decided to try it out.We will NEVER EVER go back and we don’t recommend it to any one. We had 2 weekend dinner buffet (although it was Friday) and a bottle of rose. We paid £27.95.You get what you pay for. Oh we had to pay for tap water, so in the end we cancelled it.The decoration was comfortable, but nothing spectacular. The food quality was average in my opinion, but my partner says above average. the meat was mostly dried, we had to constantly for the dishes to be brought out. The desserts were pretty standard and the service was beyond poor, they could benefit from some training. We felt ignored and were left unattended throughout all our dinner experience. If you are thinking of going there, just DON’T. Don’t waste your money, it’s not worth it. If you plan to go to any buffet in St Helens, make it to the The Chinese Buffet, as it is simply the best in merseyside.Resuming- very poor dining experience, average food, pfff, disappointing, a waste of money and time. Just don’t go.

Well, was looking for a different Chinese and found this one after looking at this site and reading the reviews. " fabulous food.......quality was amazing.........better than I had before.......little jewel that nobody knows about.....the best chinese that I have ever been to" , so packed the missus and kids into the car and headed down there. Looked at the picture of the outside of the place but didnt let it put me off. WHAT A HUGE DISSAPOINTMENT. It is a low class chinese with low class food. There are far more superior chinese restaurants in St Helens. Think these reports have been left by people who dont travel any further than the bottom of their street. For the quality of the food the prices are a joke. It cost us over £150 and all everyone was looking forward to was getting a Mcflurry on the way home. Soft drinks warm and flat and come from a large bottle, but charged at very large prices. Food was extremely bland and to rate it as the best ever really is an insult to the other restaurants in St helens. I have had far better quality from many a takeaway. We eat out as a family at least once a week so my advice to anyone who hasnt been to Mr Chans before is dont bother.
