Came whilst the Help Out to Eat Scheme has been on. Not only was it fantastic value thanks to this, the food was even better! Also excellent and very quick service. Would highly recommend. Even without the scheme the food is always good value

Meal was lovely and didn’t have to wait very long...but the older lady needs to be a bit cheerful in her job,she is so miserable and rude .

2nd time here in 2 weeks as first meal was excellent (fish) so i tried the steak this time (12ox rump, medium); was a good choice and cooked perfectly. They'd run out of French mustard but still a great meal.

Been twice this week,once with my husband and once with a friend and our teenage boys. Have been every week during help out to eat out.most of the staff are pleasant apart from an older lady with scruffy hair,she is so abrupt and rude and looks so miserable,no need for it!!!!

I have enjoyed meals on 3 occasions with my family. From being welcomed on arrival to a 'thank you' as we left, the whole experience was very positive. The food is well cooked and presented with good sized portions. The staff are polite and helpful. Looking forward to next time.

We have been a couple of times this month and usually it’s lovely. But yesterday I found the manager was awkward as I couldn’t use the app to order food due to poor connection of internet. When asked why I couldn’t just use the till he was quite rude about it in my opinion and almost seem like I was being an inconvenience to him, yet lots of people went to the till after me with no issue. I don’t think we will be returning for awhile.

We have been to the Old Smithy for many months and have never had a bad meal or drink. Highly recommended pub.

Excellent service and food was delicious as always

I attended the bar on saturday night with 3 friends. When we arrived, we were sat outside at the front, we agreed as we were told there was a heater - it didn't provide any heat. We were not advised that the outside closed at 11, and were told to leave aout 5 minutes before, baring in mind the inside doesn't close then. We placed our first drinks order at around 9pm, it took 50 minutes to receive a cocktail and a j20 - and this was only delivered to the table after speaking to a manager. We had also tried to find out how long the drinks would be by asking at the bar, but were met with rudeness and told to just wait. Whilst waiting for the first set of drinks, we ordered some more, which again failed to materialise. I went to chase again with the manager as it had been another 30 mins from ordering. When I was talking to the manager, a staff member dropped a tray of drinks which smashed and the glass and wine went all over feet, and ended up in my shoe. This was met with "do you want some shots". Baring in mind that I don't drink and was driving, this isn't exactly helpful. I wasn't even offered a soft drink which costs absolutely nothing. We also asked if we could move to a table inside, as it was freezing and raining. We could see there were empty tables where people had left, but were told that people were queing outside so no. I couldn't understand the logic of not allowing us to move inside, especially given the treatment so far. We were consistently brushed off, rudely spoken to by bar staff, waitied ridiculous times for drinks, especially given that we were ordering gin and tonics,I understand you said you were busy, but given the covid guidelines, you were no where near capacity so I dread to think what the service reduces to given the low level we received. Given that we are were group of 30 year old women, who had just come to enjoy some cocktails after our dinner, it was very clear that the focus was on young clientele getting drunk rather than ensuring everyone else received any level of service. I'm sure if I was 18, already drunk and offered rounds of free shots for late drinks none of this would be an issue. I want to support businesses locally, especially at the moment but rude, dismissive service is not acceptable especially given how much you charge for average drinks. This was my first time to Bedford Street and likely my last.
