Balti House in Rishton High Street started out as a takeaway but recently expanded into next door and now boasts this new restaurant too. You won’t miss it as the striking halogen lighting outside regularly changes colour. The owners have been in the hospitality business for 25 years and the service here is both friendly and efficient with a menu that covers all the classics from the subcontinent. They take great pride in the fact that you can really taste the herbs and spices the kitchen uses. Balti House is unlicensed so you can bring your own booze – or get it from the off licence two blocks away -- and they will provide glasses and corkage free. The takeaway next door also has pizzas, kebabs and burgers to take out.

Located within the hallowed ground of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, Blues Bar welcomes all to its Rovers-themed interior, with pictures paying homage to players past and present, large screens for the games and other sporting events, a well-stocked bar and a tempting menu of Lancashire-inspired food. The bar also has a function capability and can accommodate up to 300 for private celebrations and corporate use and they have various hot and cold buffet menus to choose from. The bar has regular live music events and also runs former players' association evenings. Proud of their heritage and roots, the food offering is taken seriously here and the chefs prepare everything from scratch using top-quality local produce. The menu offers breakfasts that feature local bacon and Lancashire sausages made to a unique Rovers recipe and lunch sees a large choice from simple or gourmet sandwiches, chef's homemade fish finger butty, jackets, soups and kids have a separate menu or can choose half portions of adult mains. Off the main menu, everything is homemade -- choose starters of salmon fishcakes, lamb kofta and chicken or fish goujons. The signature ‘Blues Burger’ menu is ever popular and mains include their own beer battered fish and hand cut chips, Lancashire hot pot and ‘Rovers’ recipe sausage and mash. Desserts change daily and are homemade also. Open Monday-Thursday: 12noon - 2.30pm, Friday-Saturday: 12noon - 10:00pm and Sunday: 12noon - 6.30pm.

The Fairfield Farm Shop & Café is situated on the A59 Longsight Road in Clayton-le-Dale, set back from the road at the front of a business estate. O'Marley’s Red Lion is Blackburn’s oldest pub, it used to be a country manor house, now it can be found easily, just off the M65, a not so hidden gem. The pub dates back to 1669, the interior has all its original features, high ceilings with chandeliers, large rooms and real fires. There is an eclectic mix of wooden tables and chairs as well as leather and upholstered banquette seating, all adding to its character. The dining room has a vaulted ceiling with revealed beams and can seat 60 diners, there is also a private dining room, a snug and lots of nooks and crannies with local history in pictures on the walls. The bar offers a good selection of cask ales, premium lagers and wines by the glass. Food wise there is a mix of Great British pub classics that include homemade burgers, comfort food or as they term it ‘Grannies Specials’. There is also a menu of Spanish Tapas and Paellas; the Spanish link comes from the owner having spent 10 years in Spain. There a 4 different sharing platters of Spanish Tapas available at £9.95, meat, fish, vegetarian and seafood. There is a large car park and a fabulous beer garden that can seat 80. Open for food Monday-Friday 12-8.30pm, Saturday 12-9pm and Sundays offer breakfasts from 12-2pm and traditional roasts from 12-7.30pm.

Spice Lounge is Rishton enjoys a commanding position at the top of the moors where four roads intersect. Formerly a country pub, this extremely spacious and well-appointed Indian restaurant has been open since 2006. The restaurant seats 180 and there is also a lounge seating area complete with red leather Chesterfields and shiny wooden floors which can accommodate up to 70 people. In the dining area, there is a canopy that’s reminiscent of a maharajah’s tent which is a great place to eat. Spice Lounge specializes in Bengali cuisine with a selection of English dishes for the less adventurous. The Chicken Lounge and the Lounge Fusion are both popular dishes as well as the Bengali fish. Unlike many Indian restaurants, the menu is always changing and they have set meal options for two or four people. Spice Lounge has theme nights, two big car parks and a private dining area for up to 70 people. It’s a great location to spend the whole night and is open from 4.30pm-11pm Monday to Friday and from 12 noon until 11pm on weekends.

Blackburn’s Steak & Burger Company is, as the name suggests, a restaurant dedicated in the main to selling red meat. Their ethos is to provide top quality and simple ingredients that are locally sourced from the Lancashire area. The menu ranges from salads, sandwiches and jacket potatoes to seafood, 13 burger options -- including satay and tikka massala -- and six cuts of steak with a choice of 10 different sauces. Signature options include Pimp My Burger, where you get to tailor-make your own burger according to your tastes, and the Steak Tasting Platter which presents prime cuts of rib-eye, sirloin, rump and fillet served with steakhouse chips and a mixed beef salad. All the meat and chicken served is 100% halal. The restaurant is set over two floors and downstairs is perfect for large parties. This Blackburn venue is potentially the first of many Steak & Burger Company outlets.
