Armenian Taverna

3 Princess Street, Manchester City Centre, M2 4DF - 0871 963 2258

Manchester’s Armenian Taverna has been ensconced in its current Princess Street location for 34 years – although is started life even earlier on Fountain Street. Chef-patron Masis has literally welcomed generations of customers to his romantic basement taverna which is right on Albert Square, just opposite the Town Hall. Both the décor and cuisine are traditional Armenian in style with the food freshly prepared over a charcoal grill. Favourites include starters such as Gagamp, cabbage leaves filled with delicately spiced lamb meat, rice, tomato and parsley and mains like the Armenian Goulash, made with pieces of lamb, cooked in a rich wine sauce together with courgette, carrot, onion, aubergine and tomato and served with rice. The mezze selection is popular and everything comes with the chef’s special bread from the Caucasus. The wine list also features wines from Armenia. The restaurant is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and dinner Tuesday to Sunday.
