Good homemade food, had the steak & ale pie - best I have tasted in years

The New Inn Harborne – Harborne
Ihsaan

Have been to this place on several occasions, and have yet to not leave completely stuffed. Glorious food, and, while there isn't that much seating, if you come slightly before prime time, you will get a seat and quick service. Would recommend to anybody.

Shiraz – Edgbaston

food to die for!!! Have eaten here twice and would definitely return. The lunchtime menu is great value for money and the portions are pretty decent so it is easy to eat too much! Great venue for an evening meal as well. great service, great decor, definitely worth a visit

We checked this out as they had just won the British Curry Award and we weren't disappointed. We were spoilt for choice, the meat dishes and kebabs were excellent.

I have been going to Jyoti's for years and years. The food is always great. It may not be the smartest restaurant in the city but the owners are friendly and the food is really good, it beats any of the flash city centre restaurants any day. Mmmmmm Jyoti

Sumptuous sauces, tantalising Nans and succulent meats combine to offer an exciting and euphoric eating experience, one of the best in south Birmingham. HOWEVER, be aware, the place's usual tranquility gets usurped after 11pm when pi***d up Mike Skinner wannabes dripping in fake gold and sometimes up to two mobile phones hanging form branded B.F.C. lanyards attired in lacoste, nike and addidas shimmer as they fall trough the door with their plastic bags full of Carling or Stella Artios or "wife beater" as it is locally known. Except in summer when checked shirts are substituted for sleeveless t-shirts to display their gallery of tattooed swallows and odes to dead relatives and a consensus of their offspring, should they forget to claim maintenance When this happens the ambiance is replaced by crackling mobile phones placed on the tables unclipped from the lanyards whilst blasting out some repetitive song in which the only the words audible are n****r and shank. Although the quality of food is just as good and the staff endeavour to remain as amiable as they were an hour before. Braving the tirades of NF chants about P*** taking their jobs, food fights and the odd outbreak of a fight, the waiters unfazed are as attentive as ever almost protective especially when you accidentally stir one of the clientele's anger by ignoring an insulting comment aimed at your dinner guest. Out of lots of restaurants to choose from in the area this is one of the better ones, the food is exceptional, an its lovely to see the same faces serving you even when you drop by after 6 months. Its a very family orientated place; my kids love the Tikka Masala. Recommended by: Dave Foodie - 22/10/2007

"My partner and I decided to try out Itihaas recently, and I must warn anyone reading this to seriously consider what I am about to tell you. Seemed pleasant enough, until 5 minutes into eating our meal, my partner bit into a piece of GLASS which was disguised amongst the rice. It wasn't just a tiny piece either, it was well over half a centimetre long, and pointed. Luckily he caught it just before swallowing. So, we called over the waiter, and as you can imagine, he was genuinely concerned. The manager came over and apologised, then handed us a card to get a free meal next time. Not wishing to make a fuss, we said it was ok, accidents do happen. The full plates were taken away (obviously, we could eat no more) as we finished off our drinks. Then, as we were leaving, one of the waiters stopped us and said we must pay!!!!!! We were stunned!!!! Pay for a meal with glass in it?!!!! Were they having a laugh??? No, they were deadly serious. The manager came over and explained that the card was for a free meal next time!! Next time??? "There won't be a next time" we told him. Needless to say, we refused to pay. Much to the annoyance of the manager. The funny thing is, if they had just given us the glass meal for free, we may well have gone back again, and actually PAID but the treatment we received, I wouldn't go back if somebody PAID ME! Steer well clear! Accidents can happen but such poor customer service is inexcusable."

Royal Watan – Selly Oak
Jade Wok

I was very cynical about visiting restaurants in Birmingham as the food in Melbourne, Australia where I live is outstanding not only in quality but pricing. I found the food at The Jade Wok on my visit quite comparable and easily measures up quality wise to a good Chinese restaurant in Melbourne. Very good indeed. GB, South Yarra, Melbourne, Australia

Myself and my Girlfriend love this place, very friendly, good service excellent food. Ian Jones, Hall Green.

I was lucky enough to come across this chippie when I was last in Birmingham and I will definitely be going there on my next visit. I chatted to the owner who said he had just bought the shop and I think he is doing a fantastic job with it. Keep it up and see you next time. p.s I love the furniture. Keeping it real!!

The most gorgeous food and great surroundings - I actually felt like I was in Mexico! Bottomless soft drinks are a great idea and saved us a few quid. We couldn't finish the large serving of fajitas or tacos. Will be going again (and again!)
