Stopped at this pub based on outdoor advert for home cooked food. Ordered drinks for self and wife and said we may eat. Was told we couldn’t, fully booked, and that we should have booked! How were we to know that I asked. Went to sit down with our drinks but was told all available seating was reserved but we could sit at the bar in the only two free bar stools. After other reserved parties started to arrive and two were together and eventually sat together we were told ‘under the circumstances you can eat’ We declined as our experience in thus pub was disappointing

Wonderful little pub and great food with service to match. Try the sticky ribs for a starter. Thank you guys 5/5 around. SRM

Really nice pub/restaurant with a great menu and decent wine list. Very child friendly as well.

Fabulous refit. Abridged bar style menu for lunch but we ordered everything and it was very good - good English sparkling wine too. Full menu at dinner so if you’re going, go for dinner and stay over. Lovely place indeed!

We visited the old bank at the weekend We had a really nice meal The food was good quality service was great Didn’t think it was too expensive We will be visiting again next time and Carlisle

Lovely warm and inviting little artisan cafe!

Great meal last night ,husband thought the cod fish dish was fab apart from he thought the lentils were too salty , my ham with thick chips again great couldn’t eat all the chips would have preferred a salad to go with it or even skinny fries but what we had last night went down a treat keep up the good work and will see you again would like to see what the menus like for the next few months

Chesters is an impressive upmarket vegetarian cafe and furnishings shop. Though I was looking forward to a full breakfast I really did enjoy my bean and hash brown dish and my partner the wild mushrooms. Good coffee and a beautiful walk through bucolic scenes to Elterwater from the door.

Train Dude

Don’t know Carlisle at all but we ended up here for lunch in the midst of a jaunt on the Settle-Carlisle railway. Happened across Franco’s and we ended up with a great Italian lunch. I had a lovely lasagne and my mother (who eats out at Italian A LOT) had the ‘best Minestrone soup ever,’ praise indeed. We were there in the daytime but I’m sure in the evening it will be lovely and atmospheric in that old school, traditional Italian way.

Great and handy place to stay in Penrith. The best thing about it is the excellent Italian food!

Poor quality food for the price, full monty breakfast for that price they charge you would expect decent sausages not deep fried poor quality ones which you find in Aldi’s frozen section 10 for a £1,and when you are served tinned mushrooms just shows they don’t care. I’ve give 1 stars which is very generous, First and last time I go.

Visited for very late lunch after long walk with black Labrador . Staff were lovely ,friendly and very helpful and the food was great . Loved it so much I went back the next day . So dog friendly it was great . Thankyou ! Highly recommended.
