This new year my mate and I stayed at the Bull. If you want a clean room and warm, friendliness from locals and staff and food that's out of this world and not forgetting their own micro brewery beer,my favourite is K7 then you MUST stay at the Bull. Black Bull Hotel – ConistonWonderful Valentines meal at Beswicks last night. Prawns on celeriac, sauteed mushrooms,medallions of beef, fillet steak. Followed by the best Pavlova we have ever had. Very good Cote de Beaune wine and a nice port to round it off. Good value and very good silver service.

Harraby Pub and Kitchen – CarlisleI knew Jumping Jenny's would be spot on the moment I walked in. Housed in the old stable block of Brantwood, Ruskin's house, It serves real foodie food but simple and not to one particular cuisine. I guess if the place was a cookbook it would be Nigel Slater. We had one of their famous flan's and the best lasagne I have had anywhere, firm but moist and not swimming in sauce. A roaring fire and an awesome view of Coniston and the Old Man to cap it off.

De Margo’s – EgremontHi. All had fish and chips here 4.1.2014. 1pm. Over cooked chips. And fish that was mainly batter? Looked good but was not nice at all. Let down. don't know how they can claim to be a good chippy!

Gillams Tearoom – UlverstonStayed here during the Christmas break for a night away. The accommodation was excellent, staff all friendly and helpful and the food was also good. The breakfast was very good! Would definitely recommend for a short break.
The Howbeck – Windermere28th December 2013 and we went back to the Eagle and Child Inn for dinner. Full house and sensational food. Fish pie packed with king prawn and lovely fluffy topping with cheese cover and a steak and ale pie to match any in the Lakes. This is not a fluke but a place to treasure in many ways. Many thanks for our second treat in three days!
Eagle and Child Hotel – KendalBoxing Day 2013 travelling towards Staveley parked up opposite The Eagle and Child Inn with its inviting Christmas glow. Lovely warm open fire close to the bar and a similarly warm welcome from the barman. With a pint of Silver Badge we asked about the food menu and noted the blackboard specials before chosing the lamb shank with creamy mash with a red wine gravy and selected our table near to the other wood burning fireplace. Candlit tables provided a warm glow throughout. The food arrived soon afterwards courtesy of a friendly waiter who asked if we needed anything more to go with our meal. Delicious. So too was the dessert, apple crumble with ice cream. Two very satisfied diners. Many thanks for such a warm and welcoming experience.
Eagle and Child Hotel – KendalReally enjoyed our lunch at Poppies Cafe. I had the cottage pie which was excellent and great value at £5.95. My wife had a huge omlette and chips. With drinks the bill was £15 and worth every penny. Left full and satisfied with cash in my wallet for Xmas shopping! Will return when in Ulverston

Square Cafe – Broughton-in-FurnessWe stayed near Broughton in Furness for a pre Christmas break with the family. We found 2 places on Sugarvine that we thoroughly enjoyed. One was Beswicks and we would highly recommend it to anyone coming to the area.

A true old lakes pub restaurant. Food was far better than we expected and we loved sitting by the range with the fire on!

Mawsons Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop – SeascalePopped in for lunch on saturday after visting Yew Tree Barn. We were impressed with our meals. A rich sheperds pie and Cullen Skink washed down with a pint of Loweswater. The young lady who served us was friendly and efficient. The only complaint was hand cream instead of soap in the gents which made my hands more greasy than before I went in haha!
