Grants Of Castlegate – PenrithTerrible service in this "restaurant". Ended up leaving before our single starter even arrived. An hour wait is totally unacceptable. Staff werent interested in tryng to get the chef to cook our dinner any quicker. They didnt serve full pints of beer either!
Pearl Palace – WigtonI had to do a 500 word restaurant review for my assignment. I choose Pompeii because i'd never been there before. I found the large to be very friendly and helpful. I ordered a Bistro Rump Fillet steak which arrived on a lava stone plate. My steak sizzled away in front of me.And for dessert Pimms Jelly which had small pieces of strawberries inside, next to it was a large scoop of mint ice cream. This was all washed down with a decent bottle of wine. And may i add that from the moment you sit down , you feel relaxed and comfortable in your surroundings. Without a doubt i will be going again.
The Pompeii Steakhouse – CarlisleVery busy and rightly so. The food is very good. I was recommended to go by a solicitor friend who recommended the steaks. I ordered a fillet steak medium rare, my mother a Fillet steak rare. Both were cooked to perfection. The Shiraz I ordered was served at a perfect temperature. Despite it being packed there wasn't an unusually long wait for the food. The waitress took our order then read it back to us to ensure no mistakes. I will go regularly from now on, just for the fillet steak!
Woodstone Pizza & Flame Grill – KeswickNice to see a typical tea room. The homemade soup was lovely .We were made to feel very welcome. It was raining when we were there ,but we had a peep in the garden out the back ,and cant wait ti go back when its sunny.highly recommend it.
Ice Cream Garden – PenrithThe food was disappointing. The risotto that I had just did not seem to have had any flavour added. The 4 cheese pizza my husband had was very greasy and lacked any cheese favour and the pizza was small for the money. On balance I could have cooked the meal myself better at home. The wine was lacking too. Overall I would not return.
Giannis Pizzeria – PenrithWe called in to book a table for the early evening of Friday last week. We had to be fitted in, so we thought it would be busy. We arrived on time, had to spell my surname to the waitress who took my reservation only an hour or so earlier. Shown to table under air con unit and left. After well over half a hour we were asked if we wanted to order any drinks. These took an age to be delivered, then we ordered our meal. Much later the main course pizzas were delivered before the starter we ordered. We said we wanted the meal in the order we requested it so our pizzas were put on top of the oven. They then started to cook our starter. Much later it came. Hot and tasty. Our mains still on the oven. When we finished our starter our kept warm pizzas were served. Terrible service and no apology. Take away business seems to take priority. How do places that treat you like this stay in business? The food was tasty. The service was nasty. Never again! We went to Open All Hours for our dessert.
Woodstone Pizza & Flame Grill – KeswickWe had to visit Brambles after seeing it on The Lakes, my husband had a breakfast which looked fresh and he said it was tasty, I had a scone which was warm and delicious, our son (who was fed up with walking) was cheered by the owners who had a little banter with him and offered him some games to play with. The owners were attentive and cheerful we would certainly visit again.
Brambles Coffee Bar – Windermere`Visited Oil's for a special occasion during August, the meal and service was excellent and everyone had a memorable evening due to the attentiveness of the staff. Marian
Oily’s – Workingtongood vaule for money and delicious food :)
Finkles – KendalBy far the best Italian restaurant in the lisle! Exsiquite, Traditional Italian cooked food in a great atmosphere for a brilliant price with great staff to boot... I will be back
La Mezzaluna – CarlisleExpensive for what we got. Straganoff was very minimal. Childrens meals were atrocious. Burger slopped into basic unbuttered bun with chunky chips nothing else no beans/garnish very disapointing for the cost. Will never visit again.
Spinnery Restaurant – WindermereDo not bother ordering a meal if they are busy and have a large oparty to serve.Waited an hour after ordering food and still had not been served.Went else where
Angel Inn – Alstonthem lot have no respect for fellow asians. treated us like third class citizens. for them the shop is only meant for the 'white' tourists. of the two currys ordered each had only two pieces of chicken in it!!!! overall a very bad experience.
Prince of India – WindermereDefinitely the worst cafe experience I've ever had.The place looks okay, and the food was alright when it finally arrived but the customer service from what looked to be the owners was absolutely appalling! After a 40 minute wait for our food ( a simple sandwich and baked potato) I finally went to the counter and asked if there was a problem with our order as people who had arrived after us were actually finishing their food and paying up before we even got ours.We got no apology or explanation, simply a very rude "sit down and wait - do you want your food hot or not!"Do not go to this place if you value customer service. Very disappointing.
Butterfingers – Grange-over-SandsThis used to be a good restaurant earlier, but now I would say its one of the worst one in Lake District. Expensive poor quality food served by indecent people.. i think that says it.....:-)
The Spice Club – CockermouthI have lived in the Barrow area for 14 years, I still go home to Glasgow regularly and trek thro the Lake District, Lancashire and Yorkshire in search of fresh air, a good hike / bike ride and some good chips / beer at the end. I was devastated to get there at 4.05 pm one day to a definitive 'NO' when we requested a take away portion as the friers were switched off and empty , but I challenge anyone to find better chips , ANYWHERE! They are probably boiled or double fried but certainly roasted in some sweet Ambrosia to achieve a dark roasted , perhaps beef dripping like flavour , with a lovely silky soft brilliant white middle . Hurrah for the school hols, at least if the weather is rotten I know that the Bosun's locker might at least be open a little later !
Bosuns Locker Cafe – Barrow-in-FurnessThanks for the scrambled eggs also the lemon drizzle cake we ate it on the way home. Love to Auntie Betty.
