The Special Curry is to die for as is the Toffee Banana. Fantastic place!
Silk Road Chinese Restaurant – KeswickMyself (male) and two male friends decided to try Italian and went to Rossinis in Ulverston last March (2010). The menu was quite impressive for just a market town in the wilds of South Cumbria. We all decided on Pizzas and we swapped and "picked and mixed". They took a while to arrive but were cooked fresh from original ingredients. You could tell from the taste. While we were waiting the helpful waiter brought us complimentary marinated mixed olives - delicious. We were taking turns to drive so stuck to soft drinks but we noticed that they have Peroni on draught - so next time? Anyway for us there will be a next time - definitely. They do take away as well, but you have to phone ahead. Pop, Paul & Pete.
Ristorante Rossini – Ulverstonthis is the place to eat in ambleside if you love italian food &good service. wonderful atmosphere go go go to dodds
Dodds Restaurant – AmblesideThe Engine Inn has now been refitted, and what a fantastic difference, they have a new Chef and The food is,some of the best I have tasted in Cumbria for a,long time, everything is homemade, and locally sourced, and booking is now essential.Real ale is also served, and dogs are allowed, the staff are really friendly, and helpful.
Engine Inn – Grange-over-SandsWould not eat at this restaurant again. Garlic Mushroom starter were the worst I've sampled, and the garlic bread with cheese was burnt.
Villa Positano – WindermereWe have just came back from having a meal and a fantastic time at Oilys, 4 of us ate there tonight and had a great meal. The staff that was on tonight were FANTASTIC taking the time to talk to us and made us feel very welcome. The FOOD was not fantastic it was EXCELLENT. we have decided that from now on we will only be going to oilys. WELL DONE oilys keep up the good work.
Oily’s – WorkingtonRecently visited the Village Inn with family for my 40th birthday there was a total of 19 people we all pre ordered & every meal was hot & not one person said anything but the food & staff were great 10/10!!
Village Inn – Barrow-in-Furnesswe have been going to the lake district for over 10 years and have always enjoyed our local pub/restaurant the sticklebarn.we last visited the sticklebarn 2 years ago and we were surprised how much the price of the meals had increased and we were not impressed with the quality of the food on 2 occasions during our stay.we recently visited the stickle barn this year 11th-13th june 2010 and we were really unhappy with a few things.firstly the prices had risen again (£9.25 for a burger and chips) secondly that there was no families with children??? also the management and staff were very dull in attitude.after noticing a few people had left nearly half of their dinners i decided to ask one women customer why she had left half her burger,to which she replied the burger had no taste and the bun was saturated in fat.we both agreed that the quality of the food had gone downhill in the last few years and the prices had gone up.i decided to go into ambelside where i found a really nice fish and chip shop that sold fish and chips for £5.00 which is nearly half the price of the sticklebarn, and was very happy with the portion and quality..i know where i will be eating in future when visiting great langdale...
Sticklebarn Tavern – AmblesideFantastic Bangladeshi food. Try the super hot 'vindaroo'....dedicated to Wayne Rooney! Also, Wednesdays and Sundays there are special menu deals on offer! If you go, tell them Mark from Aspatria recommended them!!
The Viceroy – CarlisleDelicious food and a great little cafe for people who like to find 'a hidden gem' in a back street. This is one place that is definitely worth searching for. So much much better than many of the other cafes in Ulverston.
Sting in the Tail – UlverstonMany local people consider this pub to be the place to go for good grub but on my last couple of visits the food and service have not been up to scratch and the prices are on the high side for what you get. Large portions yes but quality?.....mmmh??
Brown Cow – Barrow-in-FurnessNice cafe, lovely decor and good menu. However staff can be a bit OTT. More American than English in service!
Cafe Treff – AmblesideOne of the best meals i've ever had. A great experience!
Log House Restaurant – AmblesideA proper traditional pub set within arguably the finest scenery in the world. A drinkers/diners heaven
Sticklebarn Tavern – AmblesideWent there last year on holiday, was very impressed, so much so drove from bowness in may holidays to try their food again, once again great fresh food served well, great service and choice. Well done all involved, loved your heroes pie, can I have the recipe?
Old Farm House The – UlverstonGem of a cafe in Bowness - very fresh, well cooked grilled (so no grease or oil at all) breakfast. We ate there every morning during our week's stay in Bowness - delicious food and spotlessly clean cafe.
Bowness Kitchen – WindermereI went here to console myself on my 40th (gulp) birthday on Tuesday, with two friends. We had a fantastic afternoon, complete with afternoon tea and dainty cakes, which we had to take home as the portions are so generous. As busy working mums we all decided to make this our guilty pleasure on a more regular basis. Thankyou Gillams, this is a little vegetarian oasis we could idle an afternoon away in - my daughter is also in love with the strawberry lemonade!
Gillams Tearoom – UlverstonExcellent food, great atmosphere and attentive staff....oh, and the decors good too! What more can you say?
