Bigcook

the food seems to have gone down hill considerably over the last 12months or so. used to dine here on a regular basis as was always great food and service. on our last visit we both had set meal, i had broccoli and Stilton soup which was like puree baby food with no Stilton flavour at all, my partner had Stilton mushrooms which looked and tasted as if the mushrooms were deep fried then placed in a lack lustre white sauce again with no Stilton flavour. next we both opted for "the famous lamb" which was again a let down considering we always have it the lamb was extremely fatty and chewy and the gravy under seasoned and lacking in any depth!! will not be returning anytime soon

Excellent vibrant little coffee shop tucked away down Bashful alley near the castle in the centre of Lancaster. Good selection of mains and snacks, prices were very reasonable. Although bustling, service was quick and polite. Mixed youngish crowd. Highly recommended.

I went there a few weeks ago on the recommendation by a friend. Went with my partner, and had a starter, main meal and a bottle of wine! The wine menu was extensive, with a great choice. The food was out of this world. I think Lancaster is quite limited in great places to eat, but QSF I think will become one of our regular haunts. It was small but cosy - that said, we went mid week, I would imagine it being too cosy at the weekend. The service was excellent, the food was a little slow at coming to the table, as someone has already stated, but then, food should be cooked with care and attention, not rushed. Can't wait to return!

Mitton Hall is a terrific venue and the food does live up to the surroundings; yes, it's expensive, but stick with the tapas (take at least four plus a salad or something from the left-hand side of the menu!) and you will come away with change from £40. Would strongly recommend the Chicken Yaki Tori and Ouzi Yaki, but eat quickly; it never seems to stay warm for too long! Also worth trying is the belly pork and salt-and-pepper squid tapas. They will quite happily let you eat from the bar menu in the amazing main room - which holds many happy memories for me from the 'olde Stonehouse' days!

We visited on a friday night and there were five of us, we went for a set meal option as we couldn't decide what to have, £20 a head including fish (king Prawn dish) and it was fantastic, lots of choice and lots of it. Would highly recommend the food was fresh and delicious. service was good was quite busy.

Recommended by Mrs R We have eaten here at The Buck Inn a number of times and the food really is excellent! A main course cost anything from around £8.95 to £14, but its very good value for money when you consider the sizes of the portions (be hungry when you arrive!) I can recommend a number of dishes - Pendle Lamb, Homemade Ribble Valley Lamb/Steak Pudding (changes but both are excellent!) and my personal favourite; The Paythorne Whale - the batter is so light and crisp without the grease. Desserts too - Made right on the premises by Charlotte apparently. Children are welcome and oozes that family run pub charm so lacking today in many so called PUBS. This is a real happy place to take your loved ones. Of course there's always a downside to somewhere that serves food as excellent as this ... you can try to book but they are very busy so turning up on spec means a wait if you are lucky but believe me is well worth the wait. If you are there for opening time (6.30pm except mondays) then you should get a table straight away.

Visiting the Clitheroe area and checking web-sites for restaurant recommendations led us to this site and the Buck Inn. All the comments were positive. The Inn is tucked away but when we got there ( a Monday night ) it was almost full of diners and people waiting to eat so booking is probably necessary. Very often high expectations lead to disappointment but not on this occasion. My starter of black pudding was delicious, not obviously fatty. Mains of steak and dumplings and veg. option of mushroom stroganoff were excellent, beautifully cooked and really tasty. Full marks to the Buck Inn and recommended.

Leave well alone, my Son's pizza was runny greasy and burnt. When he complained he was told it is the correct way to serve pizza. Intimidated in front of other diners and ended up paying and leaving quickly as other diners were staring. No apology, no answer to complaint letter. (My son has worked as a pizza chef by the way so knows his stuff)

Tried the Three Fishes for the first time yesterday and found it to be a bit of a disappointment. The menu looked okay for starters and for desserts but the main meal section was lacking if you weren't after steak. I plumped in the end for the duck salad and the Lancashire Hotpot ( knowing that Nigel had won awards for one of his hotpots). The salad was okay..nothing special just the usual mix of leaves, meat, blackpudding and egg...not a lot in the way of dressing on it, which made it a tad dry for me. The hot pot was foul. It consisted of meat, potatoe and stringy onions in an overly greasy ladle of dish water. A bit of an insult really considering that not too far down the road at Northcote folk would have been tucking into an award winning version. accompaniment to this meat potatoe and onion was a pickled cabbage which was overly sweet for me. Not a great experience I am afraid.

Visited the Red Pump a few weeks ago and the Inn is as good as others are saying. Had an excellent Pigeon Salad starter and Steak main whilst my wife had venison. Flavours were fantastic and the whole experience and ambience was great. Highly Recommended.

My partner and I visited The Travellers Rest last night and it was a fab experience. The pub is much smaller on the inside than it looks which adds to the ambiance as when you walk through the doors the atmosphere is lovely and warm and very inviting - we thought it was a bit like sitting in someones front room - very relaxing. The meal was superb. I had one of their specials (Duck) which was delicious, my partner chose the Chilli but BEWARE it is exactly what is says on the menu - HOT!! The presentation of the food was wonderful - not quite what you would expect from a local pub which was a nice surprise. My only criticism has to be that the cutlery/crockery was not spotlessly clean which was a shame as apart from that the whole experience was brilliant and the staff were great. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND but would suggest you book a table first!!

I do make at least one annual pilgrimage up to Lancaster just to visit this culinary heaven and treat myself to a yearly feast of sensory magic. I missed last years visit due to illness - probably brought on by the lack of a decent curry locally! Yes it`s a 60+ mile round trip up to here, but worth every litre

I have been several time to Dantes and has been it and miss but lately is completely off the food is very poor (signs of the credit crunch corner cutting) and very expensive for what you get.

dined on sun 23rd Aug, Food was fab, we would of had dessert and coffee but having been sat for 30 minutes no staff came to ask if we required anything else, we asked a passing waitress for coffee which never came, so we paid and left. Think we must have been unlucky with the staff, but would return.

My wife and I have dined at numerous Italian restaurants. This was the best by far. What made it so special was:- The atmosphere of the venue The professional and accommodating staff And of course the delicious Authentic food. We live in Dubai and was amazed how nice this Restaurant was- a hidden gem.(The prices where very reasonable also)
