First class meal as always, service excellent.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe had a reservation for 8pm but we were tired and hungry and they managed to find us a table an hour earlier. The food selection was good and the service was excellent despite the restrictions in place. My husband had oysters to start and I had crab bisque. The oysters were excellent but I found my soup to have a little too much tomato although it was still very tasty. The haddock and chips were cooked to perfection as was the monkfish with creamy leek sauce. Unfortunately no room left for dessert!
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe had been told that their fish and chips were amazing so our expectations were high. Pleased to say we were not disappointed at all.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyStaff excellent .food out of this world. We live in north wales and we always look forward to come to Maxis.
Maxis – YorkVery disappointing. Been to Magpie several times over the years. Food excellent but staff were very unprofessional. You expect more with the prices charged. More like a cafe than a restaurant but with restaurant prices. Wont be visiting again.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe had an amazing experience at Magpie’s. Two of the party had the fish hotpot which was just loaded with fish and the appreciative noises coming from them said it all. One of the party had crab with sweet potato wedges and I was allowed 2 starters instead of one main so I indulged myself with the haddock chowder then the crab. Both were sublime. Nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly yet professional staff. The biggest problem we had was choosing just what to eat from the extensive menu. Everything looked enticing.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyOur first night post lockdown at the aegean. A change of address for the restaurant but food still tasty and a great new location... this has always been my favourite place to eat and still is! Authentic... can't wait to go again!
The Aegean Taverna – HullCharming and attentive staff. Pleasant surroundings. Immaculately clean. (I have already given feedback to our waitress) What follows is a brief summary: - starter (scallops) tasteless. Mine was goat’s cheese that was satisfactory. - main courses: 1. mussels satisfactory but soggy chips. Replaced with slightly less but still soggy chips. 2. Monkfish, tasteless and dry. We recognise that this was 2 days into the lifting of lockdown, but the almost’London’ prices were really not justifiable.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe spent a lovely evening at the Magpie. The food was amazing so fresh and beautifully cooked. The staff are very helpful and friendly. After lockdown this was a wonderful treat.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyVery good.
The John Paul Jones Pub – ScarboroughAbsolutely tremendous. Every bit as good as James Martin says. Had the seafood sharing platter. So much brought a third home in a doggy bag . Wine pretty good too. Can thoroughly recommend.
Magpie Cafe – Whitby31 Castlegate is one of our favourite restaurants. The service is friendly but professional, it’s a lovely small restaurant but the tables are well spaced. But most importantly, the food is outstanding. On our most recent trip we chose from the good value fixed price menu. I had a lovely salmon and smoked haddock fishcake, my husband an excellent crispy pork. My main course risotto was perfectly cooked and an excellent combination of flavours. My husband was also wowed by his confit duck with spinach and dauphinoise potatoes. Great selection of wines too. Highly recommended.
31 Castlegate Restaurant – YorkThe best steak we have ever eaten. Cooked perfectly and incredible sides.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyWe have been eating here for over 30 years, and have never had a bad meal. The staff are great, very friendly and helpful , and the food is second to none. The Magpie is by far our favourite restaurant. Can't wait till we come here again.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyGood, helpful and friendly staff. Clean pub, tables well spaced out and good ventilation. Unfortunately the food was mediocre. The pastry on my vegan pie was so hard that I could hardly cut it and the breadcrumb topping was chewy. My husband's steak pie was also rock hard. Very strange!
The John Paul Jones Pub – ScarboroughGreat to have the Good Luck back! Straight forward and tasty menu, perfect for a catch up lunch or client meeting.
The Goodluck Club – Leeds City CentreAs usual, everything was spot on. It's been a long wait in lockdown, but we'll worth the wait.
Magpie Cafe – WhitbyPerfect dinner, served by the nicest staff ever. Audrey and Pamela are the absolute best. Professional, caring, attentive and so knowledgeable - what more could you ask for? I’ve missed them so much this last few months and I’m delighted they’re back and firing on all cylinders. Much love to all the Magpie folk and thanks so much for the “cook at home” meals. Perfect quality and superb value, but could you ask Audrey and Pamela to pop round to my house and serve it please? Best wishes. Phil.
