Duke of Cumberland – CottinghamNags Head - if you want traditional, wholesome food for a good price then the Nags Head is ideal. A real pub with no frills, but a warm and friendly welcome by all bar and kitchen staff is guaranteed. there are quiz nights once a month and regular events if you want something more lively.
Nags Head – HullThe name alone says it all. The Emperor Ming stands for quality, genuineness, integrity and fairness
Emperor Ming – BridlingtonI have eaten regularly at Red Chilli since it first opened, and have been a huge fan all this time. However, I heard that they have changed chefs sometime last year (maybe in the latter half of the year). Sadly, having been back there several times in the last 6 months, I can say that I feel the food has gone downhill. For example, one of my favourite dishes "yu xiang rou si" (shredded pork cooked with bamboo shoots and mushrooms ect - I don't know it's English name on the menu!) used to be somewhat hot and gently sour, with just a touch of sweetness, but now just has a sweet sauce that tastes like a generic Cantonese or (or Shanghainese) dish from a takeaway! The duck is as good as ever, but definitely I feel several of the Sichuan dishes no longer taste very authentic (or even very good). Maybe this won't worry most people (and it needn't, necessarily) but for me, what made Red Chilli such an oasis was the fact that almost all Chinese restaurants and takeaways in the UK all sell Cantonese food - Red Chilli was the first in Leeds to sell Sichuan and Northern style Chinese food - two totally different styles of cooking. A new restaurant opened in Leeds recently called Home Town restaurant, in Vicar lane, just a few doors down from Tong Palace. It lacks the exquisite decor of Red Chilli, but the food is authentic Sichuan and Northern Chinese cuisine, and after 3 visits, I can confirm that they do it well, and the staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. I hope Red Chilli can improve its cooking again, as it's still a real destination restaurant in Leeds, and for the sake of introducing UK people to other kinds of Chinese cuisine, it's been a great ambassador. But check out both of the restaurants I've discussed here and see what you think!
Red Chilli – Leeds City CentreI have now eaten in this restaurant 3 times and on each time the food has been to the very highest order. Twice I have sat in the restaurant proper a cosy, welcoming dining room. Once was for a bar meal in the pub side of the Inn, both sides were well served with warm friendly staff. the food was a delight and the ales very welcome indeed. An excellent dining experience all in all for a very reasonable price.
Holly Hill – RichmondA very cheap and cheerful restaurant, with a good standard of food served in a tight, dated but ameable surroundings. All you can eat menu is the best value for miles around.
Tandoori Nights – RichmondMe and my wife had a amazing meal at this fantastic restaurant the food was so good and service was even better we cant stop going back and considering how busy it was it shows real effort from all the staff
Mill House Restaurant – CottinghamA very pleasant atmosphere, clean and tidy dining area and very good food. The comments however directed at the soldiers in the room from the waiting staff left a lot to be desired though, racist and bordering on anti British means what had started out as a pleasant dining experience left us with a very bad taste in our mouth.
Amontola – RichmondWe go to Aagrah at Woodlands on a regular basis. The food an service are outstanding.Every effort is made to make you feel welcome. We would highly recommend it.
Aagrah Restaurant – DoncasterFor those who recall the original Tandoori hut, you will be amazed at the transformation. It has turned into a glamorous two story restaurant with quality food and service which will not disappoint. We went last Saturday and it was very busy so make sure you make a reservation. We were greeted politely and were shown to our table without delay. service was good although our only complaint is we did not receive the Lassi we ordered. The food is excellent and we can recommend the lamb chops handi on the specials list of the menu. Portion are generous and if you are hungry you can order the large naan as an accompaniment to your delicious curry. We have been numerous time since it opened and have never been disappointed. We took some Curry Club guests this time and they we very impressed with their experience. We give the restaurant a DLCC rating of 8.5/10
Tandoori Hut – BarnsleyI went to Girgio's with a friend for a mid week early meal and was surprised to see that the restaurant was really busy. After eating there, I knew why! The food was fantastic - me and a friend shared a starter of calamari, courgettes and prawns which was delicious and more than enough for 2 (despite only being a starter for 1!). For main, I had lasagna and we shared a salad. The lasagna was the best I've had in any restaurants in the area and I thought the overall bill was very reasonable. The house wine was really good too! The restaurant inside is really nice, but the lighting could possibly be dimmed a little to create more ambience - this is my only slightly negative point but I will definitely go back.
falling standards here these days poor service no manners only when paying the bill food is good it has to be said
Mehfil Indian Brasserie – DoncasterVisited Giorgio's on 27th March 2010 - food was great, menu interesting with some lovely specials. We had booked a table for two at 7pm, didn't get sat down till 7.15 and everything was over by 8pm! It was extremely busy and we were asked to move from our table as soon as we decided not to have a dessert even though my husband still had a drink. We were offered a free drink at the bar but it was so full that there was nowhere to sit down. Service was too fast, we had asked for a starter, pizza course then the main (as is common in Italy) and the pizza and main were brought out together. The calzone pizza was really bland with little filling. The bill was £82 including the service charge but we didn't not want to pay the service charge because of being rushed and asked to leave the table...(my husband said this but it was taken anyway). Food 7/10 my king scallops with lobster sauce and tagliatelle pasta was gorgeous, decor 8/10, atmosphere 5/10 too rushed, service 5/10.
I have had several takeaways and a fabulous Birthday meal here. A welcoming, friendly staff, attentive service and a good choice of tasty, vegetarian meals. It is well worth a visit.
Mumbai Spice – HuddersfieldThe food was absolutely marvellous, staff very professional and pleasant. They even accommodated us when they where fully booked.
The Crown Inn – YorkWe visited Discovery Bay on Thursday evening. Fortunately I had booked; it was packed, great lively atmosphere. We had a drink at the bar and ordered there before moving to our table. The waiting staff are young and friendly and it all feels nice and relaxed. It's only a small place really (about 40 covers) but the main event is definitely the food. Our meal was absolutely outstanding! We shared a generous mixed platter starter (£6 each) and immediately realised that the kitchen was kicking out quality tastes! The spare ribs were so tasty, with an unusual star anise flavour, The chicken wings were gorgeous and crispy. For mains the other half chose red snapper special (£14), whilst I went for a chicken curry. Both were accompanied with rice and peas. The red snapper was presented on delicious thick slices of honeyed sweet potatoes. My chicken curry was succulent and a massive portion (£9). We took a look at the pudding menu; how disappointed was I that I had no space left, it looked brilliant. In short, whilst I didn't really expect to enjoy the food or ambiance in this place I was really impressed. It's unusual but great value and real quality cooking from the chef Barrington. My only suggestions? The Red Stripe and white wine were barely chilled; they could have done with being ice cold...and the menus (especially the dessert menu) were in tiny font! er that's it! We are looking forward to our return visit....
Discovery Bay – HuddersfieldAn absolutely brilliant dining experience in the heart of East Cowick, well worth a visit. The chef produces exquisite food which is backed up by friendly and helpful staff. However, make sure you are hungry when you get there! Watch this space for a Michelin star.
