Punjab Sweet House and Chargrill Centre – BradfordLast stayed here about 15 years ago and it was nice to get back to this beautiful part of the world. Helmsley is a pretty little market town and the Black Swan is an ancient pub that overlooks the main square. It now has a lot more rooms than before and we stayed in one of the more modern ones overlooking the pretty garden. The restaurant is excellent with great service, good food, plenty of space and a good wine list. They also have a new tearoom which wasn’t there before.
Black Swan Hotel – YorkRestaurant visited with a 2 for 1 voucher for their Sunday Roast offer, which is actually a bit of a tourist con. Contrary to the illustration on the voucher the actual food on the plate for £10 was a slice of rare beef (which was very good) a dried out Yorkshire pudding and three 'seen better days' roast potatoes and no other vegetables. The service was almost adequate, but dismissive when points about the menu were raised and the drinks service was appalling. The setting looks nice; decent brickwork and typically York old building stripped bare, but nonetheless uncomfortable seating. Much better choices of places to eat exist on this street. I for one will not be returning.
Meltons Too – YorkEat here regularly and it's fantastic every time. Only disappointment was the last visit (27/8/11) where they announced a supplement for scallops (no problem in principle) but the scallops were tiny & tasteless.
Stansfield Arms – BradfordI took my visiting son to a drum workshop in Halifax one Saturday morning recently and on the way out he fell into conversation with a young lady called Tigger. They soon discovered they were both vegans and Tigger suggested we try D & B for lunch. Off the 3 of us went and oh, what a great place. It was nearly empty but still had bags of atmosphere and the food was delicious. I am just about to book for my birthday. Thanks Tigger.
Dandelion and Burdock – Sowerby BridgeWhat a great way to spend the last night of our holiday. The food was fantastic, good portions and very good value for money with desserts to die for. The landlord made our visit just that little bit special welcoming all thirteen rather loud, excited holiday buzzing guests. Try it, it really is well worth a visit.
Slaters Arms – KeighleyBest Chinese restaurant by far going for years now with grandchildren so very welcoming and food is very good value for money especially the buffets.
Yangtze Restaurant – Liversedgebeen with family loads of times, the food is nice except the biryani it looks second class like left overs etc, rest is ok
Mashriq – BradfordWe have had a meal there more times that we can remember and never had a bad meal yet. We think the food and service is amazing and would recommend Fratellis to anyone that doesn't want to be disappointed.
Fratellis – DoncasterWent here in a group of 10, which didn't slow the service down at all. We used the two-course deal and I had the tzatziki (delicious) followed by chicken izgara and saute potatoes (lovely). Would definitely come back.
Meze Restaurant – BrighouseThis shop holds a Fish and Chip Quality Award from the National Federation of Fish Friers. You can be confident of the quality of food and service provided in this shop.
Eastwood’s Fish – SkiptonThis shop holds a Fish and Chip Quality Award from the National Federation of Fish Friers. You can be confident of the quality of food and service provided in this shop.
Bizzie Lizzie’s – SkiptonWe've been several now to the pub for food and every time it's been excellent. The roast dinner is great value for money - the beef was so tender and you get a great sized portion as well (and we eat a lot!) I had the pie and there was loads of tender beef in a yummy gravy. It's also a lovely traditional little pub with friendly staff. Well worth a visit.
Duke of York – HalifaxThe food and service at this restaurant are spot on. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I moved to York over a month ago and have sampled quite a few different restaurants, but this is by far the overall best!!
Saffron Desi – YorkA wonderful place to stay or to eat. Their little Bistro which is the tea room during the day is particularly good. (But it isn't open every day at night.) Best steak and great chips I've had in ages. Well worth a visit. As a place to stay its expensive but luxurious. Staff are fantastic. You can eat there if you are a non resident.
Black Swan Hotel – YorkWe have just discovered Sloanes. What a fantastic place and have already visited it 3 times. The food, service and staff are excellent. Try the steak, it's always cooked to perfection. The staff cannot do enough for you and are really friendly. We recommended it for my sister's work staff party, catering for over 100 people and apparently the food was just as good. Definitely the best Italian in Wakefield.
Sloanes Restaurant – WakefieldWe visit the Trattoria regularly and always receive a warm welcome from Dino and his staff. We are made to feel like friends rather than customers and always enjoy our evening. The friendly atmosphere is complemented by very good, reasonably priced food. The calzone in particular is always excellent and is our personal favourite. Round off the night with some flavoured Sambuca and you are guaranteed a good night out!
