Christopher’s Caribbean Carvery at The Royal Oak – BromsgroveGood atmosphere. Lovely clean surroundings. Food was ok. Mutton very boney and fatty but otherwise good. Expected to have dumplings or festivals but none were even on menu Staff are all excellent and so polite
Christopher’s Caribbean Carvery at The Royal Oak – BromsgroveHad my second or third visit here, once again the food was amazing! Succulent, plentiful and well worth the price. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Have bought my parents and Carribbean Family here & they feel the same way. The only curry mutton that rivals my mum's. I only wish I lived closer. The service is always great, the atmosphere always relaxed & comfortable, reminds me of Sundays at granddad's, only think missing is old Carribbeans playing dominos while columbo plays on a TV in the background. Haven't tried the deserts yet as always so full but would LOVE if they did sweet Bajan fried dumplings or some Carribbean puddings like home made Jamaican ginger cake with custard, warm fresh coconut bread with butter, bun & cheese or some Carribbean drinks like sorrell or soursop juice but I'm already deeply satisfied by the menu :) 10/10 recommend to everyone who wants to try or loves authentic Carribbean roasts. It's a traditional British meet traditional Carribbean roast. Think what your windrush generation grandparent or parents would cook for Sunday roast. Ignore those complaining about the combination. It's British Carribbean food, be grateful we have this place at all, it's brilliant. Favourite part is definitely the curry mutton, roast lamb & macaroni cheese. Lord I could inhale it all day.

Christopher’s Caribbean Carvery at The Royal Oak – BromsgroveOur table had been booked for over a week and then when we turned up they pushed 2 tables together which we were not particularly happy about. When we asked why they had done this we were told that people were staying longer than their allotted 90 minute slot and so were still at the table we had booked. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this, but the server seemed unwilling to move those who were sat at our booked table. Then the server came over and asked what we would like to drink. I asked where the drinks menu was, and she said they didn't have one. We explained what kind of drinks we would like and she went and checked if they had it, before we ordered. Not a massive issue but I would recommend that you put a drinks menu together to save the back and forth when people don't know what is available. Then came the issue with the food. As a Caribbean carvery I was expecting a carvery that was purely Caribbean, not a carvery that combined a traditional British carvery with some Caribbean food. My party consisted of 5 (3 adults and 2 children). We ordered 4 adult carveries and 1 child's as 1 child was unsure whether he would like the food he was expecting to be trying for the first time. My partner went first with my daughter and my partners friend. She was surprised to find beef, and chicken along with the curried mutton. She had a bit of everything as did the other two. My friend's son and I went up next. He effectively had a British carvery. he asked for an extra Yorkshire pudding, and was told he couldn't have one. I didn't feel that the British and Caribbean worked together and so just stuck with the Caribbean stuff. As I only had curried mutton, rice and peas, and a Yorkshire pudding I only had half a plate of food. I asked if I could have an extra Yorkshire pudding and was told no. I asked if I could have more mutton and rice and peas, and was told I could have more rice and peas only. The curried mutton as agreed by all on our table was tasty but not very warm. The rice and peas was extremely stodgy and stuck together, and gravy with mutton curry just made no sense. The plantain tasted like it had been under the heated light for 3 weeks. The veg was watery and tasteless, and the roast potatoes tasted deep fried. The concept made no sense to me at all and I went home hungry and disappointed feeling ripped off, and ready for a pizza.

Christopher’s Caribbean Carvery at The Royal Oak – Bromsgrovefelt like I had popped in to Grandma's house for dinner in the sense of the environment was cosy, authentic Caribbean music playing, tasty food. The food was not as good as Grandma's but it was a nice change from having to cook. I would return if in the area. Nice venue too and friendly staff. Prices were reasonable and portion sizes was good.

Christopher’s Caribbean Carvery at The Royal Oak – BromsgroveLovely atmosphere with attentive staff. Food is delicious and flavoursome. My only critique is that the lamb could be a little more tender. I look forward to utilising the outdoor space in the summer with hopefully some jerk chicken. Keep up the good work!
