Aikton Arms – WigtonThe Pheasant is now under new ownership, part of a pub group, and it’s very much the end of an era, I’m afraid. I suppose if you’ve never been before and your expectations are basically pub food and a room for the night in a quieter part of the Lake District then it fits the bill – albeit at the pricier end of the spectrum. But the charm, the fine dining, the decent wine list, the hidden gem in the north Lakes – it’s all gone. Such a shame.
The Pheasant – CockermouthBeautiful modern and stylish cafe in the Heaton Cooper Art Studio. Great food and location in Grasmere with outside tables
Mathilde’s Cafe – GrasmereExcellent food and service, couldn't fault anything.... Tables socially distant too... Will definitely be returning and recommending.
Aikton Arms – WigtonLovely immaculate place with great food!
The Tavern At Hale – MilnthorpeNice vibe to the place. Absolutely loved the food. Didn’t have any pie but the burger was fab. The coq au vin also looked good. Great puddings too. Sponge and custard on another level. Service is exceptional. Hopefully back soon.
The Old Bank – CarlisleWe chose this pub because we had very little local knowledge, but it had a good website with gluten free items clearly identified. We booked for a party of six, three generations, for a Saturday evening. On an evening when there was a storm raging and the roads half flooded, we were astonished to find a pretty full pub; it shows something about its popularity. All the meal choices were most enjoyable and reasonably priced. I would particularly like to point out the gluten free sole and similarly delicious Eton mess. A place to go to.
Aikton Arms – WigtonLovey food, great Sausage and Mash. Only downside was that the whole place was not warm and could have done with the heating being on.
The Old Bank – CarlisleFantastic bottomless brunch, i had Sausage Benedict and it was so tasty & filling, service was great and our waiter was very attentive. Would definitely recommend.
The Old Bank – CarlisleI stayed here this weekend on a DBB. When we arrived, the receptionist showed us where everything was on the ground floor which looks fabulous since the refurb a little while ago. We went up to our room which was on the second floor and overlooked the gardens and lake. The room was spacious with a massive bed and was very clean and had everything that you would need. Dinner that evening was outstanding. We ate tempura prawns & Squid parpadelle which was very tasty, fillet steak for main, medium rare that was cooked to perfection and for dessert, a chocolate marquise and a pistachio marshmallow both of which were amazing! Breakfast the next morning was also great, a full Cumbrian breakfast for us both, not a spot of grease anywhere to be seen and served piping hot! Needless to say, we will definitely be back!!
Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel – WindermereWe stopped by on a very wet Saturday afternoon for lunch, the place was busy but we managed to find a table! To eat we couldn't decide so ordered a few dishes to share. We had the duck salad (this was out of this world! A real taste explosion!) the chilli squid (again cooked to perfection) and the loaded fries (served in their own skillet which kept them piping hot!!) We will definitely be visiting again!!
Urban Food House – WindermereBooked meal for the 6 of us for my mum's 50th. All I can say is I can't fault the food it was brilliant we all enjoyed it. They've recently has a re-furb, the place looks lush! Already can't wait to go back
The Old Bank – CarlisleAte here this weekend, lovely place, great job they have done with the interior. We both had the fish finger sandwich which was plenty big and served with crisps and slaw. Would be nice to see some different things on the evening menu as was a little confused as to what the offering was.
The Easy Breeze – WindermereLovely cosy pub, great service. Great food & always good vegetarian selection & everything is very fresh.
Aikton Arms – WigtonAn amazing and unique destination!
The Music Room Restaurant at Augill Castle – Kirkby StephenI would like to say a big thank you to the team at Sugarvine who recently recommended this restaurant to me. We had 5 diners looking for great food and wine, and I have to say that none of us were disappointed. The food was of a very high standard, steaks cooked to everyone's preference, which from experience is not always the case in most places! The service was outstanding and even better was that there was absolutely no rush, the table you book for the evening is yours. Whilst we dined in the main restaurant, we ventured in to the bat area also, which was busy but not overwhelming, and again seemed to have a very nice atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend to everyone. Please also do not be put off by the name if you are vegan or vegetarian as one of our party is and there were ample choices on the menu.
