All nine of us enjoyed a very good meal here. A good menu for both adults and children. Excellent service and good all round value. (Aug 2008)

Travellers Rest Inn – Grasmerelovely food. lovely people. hard to believe you are in denton holme when you are eating food as good as that.
Holme Bistro – CarlisleAuthentic italian cuisine at a reasonable price. Fantastic service from attentive staff. I wouldn't hesitate calling in again the next time that I'm in Bowness.
Villa Positano – WindermereWonderful little Cafe i stumbled across while walking hadrian's wall.small and very eccentric looking from the outside but housed a wonder of deserts and delicious treats. light meals were also served i think. the soup was wonderful and just what i needed on a wet day, also try the banoffi pie it was out of this world. walkers paradise on a wet day!
Capon Tree – Bramptonstunningly good food menu is uninspiring however the goulash remains the only reason i visit keswick(and the beer is top notch)
Dog and Gun – KeswickLooking for somewhere to dine-out in WestCumbria, then I can recommend “Oily’s” for your lunch time meal or evening dinner. On the A595 just out of Workington at Winscales Moor, this recently refurbished ‘pub offers a fine choice of good quality meals, freshly prepared under the direction of mine host and chef Warwick Muir. Not to be missed are his home made steak pie for main course and for sweet his special recipe sticky toffee pudding and for a starter try the spicy tomato soup. For Sunday lunch there is a set menu offering a choice of 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 sweet, giving a 3 course Sunday lunch for under £ 10.00 of outstanding value for money.
Oily’s – WorkingtonI was just up for a bit of climbing and felt like having a change from the usual pub meal so thought I'd give Beswicks a try. What a lucky decision, probably one of the best restaurant meals I've ever had, Brian Middleton
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessFantastic food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Book your table now.
Deja-Vu In Kendal – KendalHaving recently moved into the area, finding this pub as our local is a delight. It's welcome is always warm and personal, the beers are well kept, the food is excellent with a good solid menu and some inventive specials. Nice beer garden for sunny days. Well done to Ben and Jen who have recently taken over.
Boot and Shoe Inn – PenrithOilys, as it is now known, has gone through a massive change. its had a major face lift and total change of atmosphere. the restaurant is now very light and airy, with the old conservatory being ripped down and a new room being built. there is also now some decking outside the main entrance for the few days of summer a year we get. the menu is mixed, with all meats sourced locally. from normal "pub grub" like gammon, sausage etc and also fajitas, pastas and a few specials like duck on a potato rosti with mango and orange sauce which my girlfriend had. i had a rib eye steak which was fantastic. done to perfection and a very good cut. service was prompt and excellent, with the staff seeming to be enjoying themselves. we had a starter each, a main meal, girlfriend had a dessert while i had a coffee and the bill was £40 which i thought was decent. all in all, a completely different animal to the old oily johnny's, and i will definitely be going again.
Oily’s – WorkingtonI would recommend The Village Inn to anyone, there is something for everyone regardless of your taste in food or size of appetite. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent (cooked by a chef with 22 years of experience at The Village Inn).
Village Inn – Barrow-in-FurnessA friend from Australia was over in the UK and I wanted to show her the Lakes and take her for lunch in a quintessentially olde world Cumbrian Inn. She was not disappointed! the location is amazing on Kirkstone pass. The place reeks of history and the food, though rustic, has a modern restaurant vibe. Fish Pie, mint risotto, posh bangers and mash and all were excellent! The only thing she did not like was the Cumbrian Way bitter. But honestly it was one of the best pints I've had even if it was a little cold. I'll be back!
Queens Head Hotel – WindermereWe have visited this restaurant on our last 2 trips to windemere. Both times we were not disappointed - staff very friendly, lovely meals and decent portions at reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend a visit.
China Boat The – Windermeregreat place
Sweeneys Bar Restaurant – KeswickNot selling food any more but selling one of the best pints of real ale in ulverston.
Devonshire Arms The – UlverstonAn outstanding restaurant & a must for anyone who enjoys fine dining. We stayed overnight on 10 May 07, the rooms are good value & nicely decorated. We chose 'The Tour' menu which consists of approximately ten courses & costs £70. The food is fantastically tasty, incredibly well presented & completely deserving of a Michelin Star. Breakfast the following morning is included in the cost for the room & was excellent too.
L’Enclume – CartmelWe had the most wonderful mid week break at Broadoaks Country House last month. The house and grounds are simply stunning and all the staff made our stay so relaxing and enjoyable. We had booked on a dinner bed and breakfast rate so only paid £30 each for dinner, the food was exquisite with a great selection and a clear devotion to local produce and Cumbrian cuisine. Little unexpected touches like a the canapes and sorbet pre - dessert really made the experience a special one and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Thank You Broadoaks and Sugarvine.
Broadoaks Country House Hotel – WindermereWent Sat night for Tapas meal for 3, very good on all counts, service, food, choice and value. Really well run, friendly but not in-ya-face service. Its a pleasure to eat there. Ole
