Excellent food in very comfortable and friendly cosy bistro.Our 3rd visit to Lewis Bistro and have re booked for next week!Delicious menu choices,beautifully cooked and served. Highly recommended.

Good menu to choose from. Crispy chicken burger was tasty and the triple cooked chips are excellent. Pie of the day was corned beef hash and hubby said it was delicious along with buttery mash and red cabbage with plenty of gravy. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Would certainly go again.

Lovely restaurant in Grasmere. We've been several times and our most recent visit didn't disappoint. Cosy setting with good service and very good food. Booking recommended as this gem is popular. All food prices are high across the hospitality sector at the moment but Lewis's offers quality at a reasonable price and our favourite restaurant in this part of the Lakes.

Luckily we had made a reservation for our evening meal as the restaurant was packed on Wednesday night. The Horse & Farrier is a lovely traditional pub/restaurant with lots of character. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and heard several other diners discussing the good food and generous portion sizes. We did have to wait a little longer than normal for our food to arrive but this was not an issue as it was excellent when it did arrive. The staff were friendly and overall we would recommend this place.

Awful. We had to wait for our table, we had to ask to order after being left for 20 minutes and after a further 40 mins discovered our order had not been put through. Meanwhile others around us ordered, ate and left. 50 minutes in we were told our food was being plated as we speak. 60 mins in we gave up and left leaving £20 on the table for our drinks. Came recommended and we were really looking forward our last evening here in Keswick and ended up with a takeaway pizza

Excellent food, good service and sensibly priced. We will return next year on our annual visit to The Lake District.

We were visiting the area from Kent and after attempting to eat at two other local venues who unfortunately had their kitchens closed, we found the Horse and Farrier, and we were grateful the other 2 were closed! The staff were friendly and indulged in my chit chat, the food was served in a satisfactory time, not super quick but equally we wasn’t left waiting. The food itself was lovely.. in fact I inhaled most of mine! Bravo all!

Made a booking for three on a busy Tuesday mid September. Lovely old pub with oodles of character. Welcomed and served by super friendly and entertaining staff. Food was excellent. Tried a selection from the menu and nobody was disappointed (until we saw someone else being dished up the fish and chips which brought immediate plate envy - we considered second innings but were stuffed!)

We had a fabulous meal at Lewis’s Bistro. The service was excellent , very attentive staff and friendly ,comfortable atmosphere. We booked it ahead as it was our 53rd Wedding Anniversary and wanted somewhere special. We both had the herb crusted cod with the red pepper sauce which was very delicious and perfectly cooked vegetables . I had the raspberry cheesecake with a side of double cream.Highly recommend and my husband had the Eccles cake with toffee sauce and ice cream. He thoroughly enjoyed that too.

As usual did not disappoint! Absolutely perfect! We had the bread and dips and 3 tapas plates. Food beautiful. Service great and a lovely atmosphere!

Had a fabulous celebratory meal this week at Lewis's with my wife & little dog whilst staying in Grasmere. The fillet steak was cooked to perfection with lovely vegetables / accompaniments. Service was very friendly and attentive and there was a nice busy atmosphere. Biscuits provided for our dog went down very well! It was nice to find such a lovely quality restaurant that permits dining with our little dog. A most enjoyable evening.

Such a lovely location and was relatively busy! First guy I was served by was so friendly and polite I booked in advance and requested a table with my dog which happened to be a tall table, directly in front of the bar and between two walkways, just really not ideal for us. I asked to move to one opposite against a wall which wasn’t a problem but still meant my dog was getting in the way of everyone Nobody explained that I need to order food at the bar, which isn’t a problem of course! but I had seen other tables being waited so took a moment to work out Food was really not good. The price seemed steeeep and everything was terrible quality? No one checked if my food was ok, no one asked if I wanted dessert. Maybe because I was just on my ones? I went to another local pub the next day and paid exactly the same for something far better quality. This really highlighted the experience I had at the horse and farrier. I really wouldn’t want to leave a bad review but I was so disappointed and didn’t have the best experience as a solo diner

Chris and I live in Keswick. We brought visiting friends for Sunday lunch at 3pm. We came because a meal we’d had previously, on a week day in early Summer, was very good. The meal on Sunday was, average at best, and did not meet our expectations. On the positive side, the lamb shank was very tasty and good. However, the beef was dry and difficult to cut, and rather chewy. The roast potatoes were hard, anaemic and dried up - possibly because they’d been reheated. The vegetables were uninspiring and watery. Looking at other reviews, maybe the real issue is the time we ate; perhaps if we’d have eaten at 12.00, the food would have been more fresh. It’s a shame, because the pub is great.

We did not use this place as a hotel and on the basis of several recommendations we wanted to dine here but could not book a table before the Sunday. Neither of us understand why its so busy, especially when there are superior eating establishments within 3 miles and at much more realistic pricing. I knew when I booked what the prices were but we were assured their food was excellent but we found it lacking. Don't get me wrong the food was cooked IK and presented OK but we had better very close by in Scales. I had lamb shank, £27 for half a carrot, a dozen cut green beans, a dollop of mash and a small shank that had been sat around so long it lacked any pinkness and was a dull and depressing grey. The whole lot nearly got drowned by a sea of horrid watery gravy. My wife had the half chicken but got fed up with fighting bones. A good chefs would remove as many as he could along with the burnt bits. Then she had a desert masquerading as Eton mess but really was steamed fruit with a meringue on top. I had a desertion of chocolate bread and butter pudding with ice cream, the ice cream was really nice. The pudding again was lacking. As I say the food was OK but at that price level we feel it was just ok and nothing special. Over £80 for a pint and half of cider, a coke, 2 mains and 2 puds is very top end the food was very average. That was the good report of the evening along with the place was clean though am surprised with a zillion dogs everywhere, some the size of Shetland ponies. I have saved the worst for years. I have been in customer service for 30 years and run some big teams for retailers and without exception I found all staff to deliver appalling customer service at the Horse and Farrier. As we entered I tried to get a drink but was told to sit down. A server came to the table and wanted our food order. I asked if I could have a drink again no he would come back later for our drink order. I very nearly said if I cant have a drink I do not want to order food. He never bothered to come back so after 15 minutes I went to the bar to get one and the barman asked a server to take our order. Food was already on the table and we had not had a drink. Her question "what do you want". My partner said a diet coke please and she said don't do them just Pepsi, I asked for a lager. Another 7 minutes sh plonked 2 glasses on the table without a word. I prefer like most to have a drink whilst I peruse the menu, alas they did not allow it. We felt rushed by serving a meal as soon as we arrived, we had the pudding and I had asked for it with ice cream not custard but it turned up with custard, it got sent back to be changed. So not a great experience for £81.10, we did not tip and we will not be back. The pub in Scales was many many times better, there was a far better atmosphere their too with everyone laughing and smiling with punters all the staff at H&F never smiled about anything. I would avoid this place and go to Scales. That pub had awesome food with brilliant service.
