Brewers Fayre – Carlislethe garlic bread is outstanding and the cabonara is just fabulous! a definite thumbs up. bit hard to find . had to stop and ask for directions!
Ristorante Michelangelo – Carlislebest italian in carlisle. not too pricey. for four it was £30 for a meal each and drink and garlic bread.(at happy hour) worth going at happy hour. food is well cooked. don't be put off by the location. near a few kebab, takeaway shops.really nice food.
La Mezzaluna – Carlislewhen we went in they had the bull fighting on the Tv. we politley asked them to turn it off as it was upsetting a few of our party. they refused to turn it off and after a while we asked again they refused again and a few of our party had a quiet word they refused and said they would not turn it off it was their house and if you where in someones house you would not ask them to turn their tv off. this was very upsetting for us.
Costas – PenrithWe went as a group of 13 on sat. night for a birthday celebration. We had pre-booked our meals and they came named to avoid any confusion. Food was great and the service was excellent and very good-humoured. Would definitely recommend and visit again
Amigos The Mexican – UlverstonOn a weekend visit to Carlisle we were recommended this restaurant by the teller in the local Abbey BS and it is just as well as it is not the place you would find by accident or in passing located as it is on it's own down a dark street at the side of the station. When we got there it was full, a good sign! We studied the comprehensive menu in a lounge area by the bar before being shown to our table. Afterwards the 6 of us discussed the place and were unanimous, for decor, ambience and atmosphere 4* tables a bit too close together for comfort, for service 5* attentive but not rushed, quality of food and selection 5*+ outstanding, price 4* a tad on the pricey side but still considered worth it. Next time we're in Carlisle it's a definite.
Ristorante Michelangelo – Carlisleexcellent food cooked to your liking, we try and go every Wednesday, keep up the good work The lad,s
British Raj The – UlverstonMy wife and I dined with friends on Friday 29th May 2009, at the West Lakes Hotel’s summer gourmet evening. The food was excellent, possibly the very best I have ever experienced during my sojourn on this earth. The ambience was extremely satisfying and the number of diners and mix of company just right for such occasion. The service was excellent, with just the correct gap between each of the 9 courses to dispel any feeling of satiation. Geoff and Debra are to be congratulated on the way in which they facilitated such enjoyment of Rob’s culinary expertise. Well done, one and all!!
Westlakes Hotel – SeascaleDo not eat here i seen the chef standing outside urinating by the bins which was weird seen as there is toilets inside! god knows if he washed his hands when he went back in to prepare food!!
Jasmine Palace – WhitehavenWe ate at the White House on the first evening of a 3 day holiday in Bowness. We normally prefer to try different places to eat when we are away, but were so impressed that we came back again on our 3rd evening. The food is excellent - a good selection on the menu with additional daily specials, all perfectly cooked and well presented. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive. The Fish of the Day dish we ate on our second visit was among the best sea bass I have eaten, incredible flavour and perfectly cooked. If you have room, the puddings are also well worthwhile and prepared with the same thought and care as the rest of the dishes - the sticky chocolate pudding is a must for chocoholics (lovely and rich without being too sweet) and there is an extensive list of homemade ice creams in various flavours. All in all, we're just sorry we don't live locally so we could visit more often! Excellent food at a very reasonable price, highly recommended.
The White House – WindermereWe had a most enjoyable meal here last Thursday (21/5/09). Excellent food and wine, all competitively priced. The staff were most pleasant and attentive, even though the restaurant was full. When on holiday, we tend to visit different restaurants each evening but were so impressed with The White House that we returned on 22/5/09 and enjoyed the experience a second time, even though Bowness has many restaurants from which to chose!
The White House – WindermereTricky to find but well worth the search, exquisite food and service made for a thoroughly enjoyable and well priced evening. Well done!
The White House – WindermereBest Thai we've tasted in the UK, not too expensive, friendly attentive staff and a nice atmosphere. Try the mussamun curry with lamb or the Sea Bass with lime and Chilli - Divine!
Jintana Thai – WindermereThis place is best bet in the area. A fantastic old coaching inn. Its upmarket and our room was surprisingly hip! The Tufton blends the old and the new really well. We ate in the dining room and were impressed. Finally the area is one of my favourites in Cumbria. Away from the hustle and bustle of the national park, a slice of real Cumbria with a great dolop of history.
Tufton Arms Hotel – ApplebyWe never visit the Lakes without visiting this restaurant. The food is superb and Chris, Busara and their staff are polite and attentive. Be sure to book at busy times, the premises are quite small and we see people turned away every time we are there.
Doi Intanon Thai Restaurant – AmblesideI RECENTLY ATE HERE AND I AM STILL PAYING FOR IT! AVOID AT ALL COSTS (PRAWNS!).
Sutherlands – WindermereThoroughly enjoyed a meal at Casa Romana this week - they were good enough to squeeze us in on a Saturday night. The steak with pepper sauce was sublime (good homemade chips too), and the mussels were fresh and very, very tasty! Massive portions (a main course with a coffee was more than sufficient), excellent value and great service from the owner and his staff. Definitely recommended and we'll be back!
Casa Romana – Carlisle – CarlisleThe best Spanish food i have ever had, could not find anywhere half as good in Barcelona!! The atmosphere is just like being in Spain. The huge portions are excellent value for money. I would recommend the chilli chicken (battered chicken with a very tasty sweet chilli source and served with a small salad) and the potatas brava are very good aswell, the menu is mainly tapas so you get to try all kinds of wonderful foods esp when you go with a large group. I live in Penrith and this is my favourite place to eat. The chef /owner is Spanish and the service is v good.
