Me & my partner visited Francine's November 05, We came back to find it was closed in December 06 and were extremely upset! We had a fabulous meal there on our first visit. The place had a completely different atmosphere in the evening, we enjoyed several courses, all at which were well worth the cost. I am elated to say we have booked a table there for this saturday night for our annual trip to Windermere. The main purpose of our visit being our trip to this beautiful little restaurant!...oh, and my partners birthday!! A must for anyone staying or visiting the Lake District, day or night.

Surprised by all the rave reviews. My boyfriend and I ate here a week ago. Very poor service. The food was good, steak in particular, but the fish average, and we had to wait ages in between each course and they brought us the wrong drinks (twice) and undercharged us for the meals - obviously good for us two, but not a sign of accuracy on their part! Staff very curt.

We had a great meal here a month ago. Service was excellent, and the food lovely. The manager ensured each course was to our liking and was very polite. All the staff were polite and served the ladies first - correctly!

A traditionally-furnished pub that is genuinely interested in creating a terrific village hub. The staff and regulars were unfailingly pleasant and welcoming to the 10 of us (with the exception of the older barman who needs to tone down his act, he upset a friend of ours who felt unable to stay after an unpleasant comment). Matt - the owner and chef - is passionate about serving locally-sourced high quality ingredients and is deliberately simple in his treatment, bringing out the best in the fine foods he selects. We loved the place, and the warmth of the people was outstanding.

My partner & I visited the restaurant recently and found it to be very acceptable. I realise the food is cooked to order, but as we were the only pair in initially, followed later by a second couple, I found the service particularly slow, and wonder how long we would have had to wait for food if there had been a large party in.

We were the first table of the night so I expected better than we got, really. My minted lamb shoulder was burnt on the bottom and to the side and gravy was strangely tasteless. My husband received a lovely large piece of haddock but this was let down by the frozen chips it came with. My sons pizza was burnt. Deserts were very nice though. Came to £48 for two adult mains, 2 childrens mains (deserts included), 1 desert, 2 pints lager and 2 cokes.

Microwave meals served at horrendous prices. I had a deep fried sausage with bisto gravy and microwaved mash. My childrens meals were equally as disgusting so I made them leave them and went elsewhere! Truly the worst place in the village!

Stayed in September could not eat breakfast at all probably the worst offerings I have ever had - evening meals terrible - there were only 5 in the restaurant and all I can say is the service was lousy and the food as bad - complaints not taken seriously

Nice cafe offering excellent cakes and a range of snacks. So good we called twice ~ once at the beginning of our wander and once at the end. There were eight of us in total and we were all served quickly by the polite staff. Problem with one chilly coffee was sorted straight away. Sticky toffee pudding with cream recommended. Cheers

This pub does not serve food but is the best bar in cleator moor by far.

fab food i had pollo carb was delicious, very busy so its best to book and the service was lovely too. definitely going again.

We visited the Glass House in early October 07 for lunch, and I can honestly say it was one of the most terrible dining experiences I have had the misfortune to endure. It all seemed quite promising to begin with. Physically, the restaurant looks great. The staff are friendly and helpful and the wine list is impressive. And then the food arrived. Starters of prawns with chorizo and beetroot with goats cheese were edible enough, although these simple dishes would have been more difficult to get wrong than right. This underwhelming start to the meal turned out to be the highlight - the main courses were genuinely inedible. I should make clear at this point that my partner and I are very keen foodies and the very opposite of fussy eaters. As such, I cannot remember the last time, prior to our lunch at the Glass House, that I literally could not bring myself to eat a meal which was in front of me. My partner had a roasted chicken breast with mustard mash, while I opted for a gourmet style burger on focaccia. My burger arrived literally swimming in a very odd sauce which was tooth-rottingly sweet and extremely overpowering. The burger itself was so overseasoned with various herbs (plus a very strange taste which I couldn't identify as anything beyond soap) that there was absolutely no hint of beef flavour left. So sweet and hideously flavoured was the sauce that I was actually unable to stomach it, and since everything on the plate was liberally doused in the stuff the entire meal was inedible. My boyfriend's meal was similarly over-flavoured - the mustard mash had such an enormous amount of mustard in it that after a few mouthfuls he couldn't taste anything at all. I have no idea what is wrong with this chef's palate. Perhaps the two cigarettes that he smoked outside the restaurant (in full view of the lunchtime diners) in the space of an hour didn't help. Or perhaps he has some strange disorder which prevents him from tasting flavours which stop short of having to be labelled "industrial strength". Either way, judging from our experience he is most certainly in the wrong job. I fear I will run out of adjectives if I try to further express my feelings for the Glass House. I sincerely hope that the management realises sooner rather than later that their restaurant can be as pretty and as friendly as it likes; ultimately it will be judged on it's food. And at the moment, that food is appalling. Stay clear.

Our evening at Beswicks, in a group of 6, was memorable. From the comfy sofas and drinks on arrival, through the excellent meal in a cosy, welcoming environment, to the after-dinner coffee and chat with David, the host. And, as a diver, has he really built a community of gnomes, complete with picket fencing, deep under water in Wastwater? I guess we'll never know! But we'd love to come back on our next visit to the area.

For the best quality veggie food around in a nice relaxed atmosphere this place can't be beaten. Slightly off the beaten track down by the river its a joy to savour their salads, quiche, soups and delicious cakes.

No matter how many times you visit the Allerdale the Food and Service are always excellent.

One of the best meals i have had cooked to perfection and not over priced

superb all round, great food, great prices. Extremely friendly staff. Couldn't fault it. Great Thai beer too.

The greek salad was very tiny, miniscule chopped cucumber, tom, onion. The feta cheese had no flavour. The vegetables used for the dips were so thinly cut, you'd never know it was celery and carrot. The tzatziki was bland, no flavour. Best thing was the wine. You can taste whichever you like. Which was very good. prices were quite expensive too, for the quality. My partner had the steak, it was like something from a greasy cafe. Even our clothes stank of grease the next morning.
