Zeffirellis Pizzeria – Amblesidevery friendly and made our visit a very welcome one, very nice place to stay will visit again
Rydal Lodge Hotel – RydalAfter a recent meal my infrequent visits will become regular visits, The new chef (who I believe only arrived in September) has transformed an acceptable dining experience in to a not to be missed pleasure. Do yourself a favour and prepare to be spoilt.
Fisherman’s Arms Hotel – UlverstonAn excellent lunch(and a delightful stay) marred by the fact that we were the only guests here. With the staff out-numbering you by at least 5/1 it makes for an eerie time. Fair play though, the food was top drawer and the views stunning.
The Samling – WindermereI visited the Herdwick for lunch last friday. It's situated conveniently off the A66 toward keswick off the m6. I had a gorgeous baguette with tarragon chicken. It came with a well dressed salad and was presented well. The service was very friendly and attentive. The ambience was typically rustic with a huge fireplace that must be perfect to sit near in the depths of winter.
Herdwick Inn – PenrithWe stayed at The Log House for Two nights and ate there one of the nights. The food was wonderful, top marks for the chef. The staff and sevice were exceptional. The breakfasts served were very good, the quality was second to none. We have stayed at many of the Lake districts Hotels and Guest Houses and would put this at the top of our list.
Log House Restaurant – AmblesideVisited this Restaurant on one of these recommendations lived in area, never been. Wife and I were made to feel welcome as we arrived it was clear many of the guests knew the staff. We had a drink in the very comfortable lounge area and made our choices from the menu. As soon after a short while we were shown to our table. I did not realise the place was so big yet so cosy. Our meal was exquisite excellent food presented simply My wife had Gressingham duck cooked pink at the owners recommendation and I had Fillet steak. The like of either we had never experienced they where fantastic and to be recommended. The sweets were also fantastic clearly made to order as well. We could not manage cheese but the board looked incredible. We had coffee in the lounge afterwards even the coffee was remarkable. It was our anniversary and we had a truly magical evening.
Beswicks Restaurant – Broughton-in-FurnessBrilliant for families, made us really welcome, blew balloons up for our baby. Excellent caring service
The history of the building has most of the interest along with the construction of the restaurant. After selling the Windermere Hydro Hotel 1956, Charles Suiter Sutherland leased the sixteenth century building from the Patterson family and began to remove what had been the military phone centre covering the Sunderland Flying boat construction on the lake during WW2. It took almost a year to clear out the place and cut doors through the eight foot thick stone centre wall. The fireplaces, one being an Adam, were collected from the castle being covered by the rising waters of Hawes Water. The front windows are five hundred years old with some actual first glass inserts. The place was sold in 1960 and has gone through several structural changes over the years.
