be warned if you have children, this place is not for you. Despite making a booking and stating we had children, the owners were very condescending to us, boarding on rude. The food was good, though overpriced and service very poor/slow. Would be good to come for a beer and maybe a meal with just a partner.

We spent a very enjoyable evening at Bistro One last night. Everything, from the food to the wine, was delicious, perfectly complemented each other and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were generous too. The waitress was very helpful and Mr Barrett, who was head chef last night, seemed happy to talk to us and kindly shared his expertise in wine. A lovely night in a relaxed atmosphere, we will definitely be back - possibly even for the wine tasting course!

Great meal. Had a fantastic meal as did my colleagues. I had the Klefticon which just melted in my mouth, never had meat so tender. My colleagues had the Fish Mixed Grill and Monkfish. They were very impressed and said you could tell that the fish was very fresh. The portions are a really good size and are very good value for money. Next time I am in Plymouth I will be coming back. Reading the review below......I understood that the Restaurant specialises in seafood not Greek.

We have eaten several times here, both lunch times and evenings . The food is fantastic and the service is faultless. I just have to ask and they always have a good choice on the menu for me being wheat/gluten free. Not the usual plain offerings I get at most other places. We love eating here.

I was seriously looking for the hidden cameras during my experience in this establishment because the host was so rude I thought I had stumbled into a reality tv or prank show. On arrival at 6pm the place had about six customers in total, and myself, partner, two five year olds, one 12 yr old and the grandparents sat outside to enjoy the river. Our drinks were massively overpriced, £7.20 for two glasses of wine, and the service frosty. The owner or host came outside and began to put down all the large parasols even though we were sheltering from the rain. We moved to inside which seats several hundred but was empty, and sat at a table by the window. The host then came over and made a fuss that one of our children was sat behind us drawing a picture. He was unceremoniously removed as the table was needed!?!? Our glasses were then hurriedly collected before we had finished, and we were starting to get the hint, but subtlety vanished altogether when a junior member of staff came and told us that our table would need to be vacated if a diner wanted it. Still, all around us was empty and we had spent a lot of money on drinks. Our children were sat quietly with us, drawing pictures. Before the hour was up we were literally hounded out of this practically empty pub, and my parents who are in their sixties had been looking at the menu and planning to stay for dinner, but changed their minds and went on elsewhere. There is a sign outside saying 'Welcome'.... what a joke! For all the fancy decor the staff and owner are simply rude. If tables are reserved for diners only then that should be made clear, but paying customers should not be treated like rubbish, no matter how pretty the view. My advice, go down the river to Shaldon where there are plenty of super friendly alternatives who will be pleased to see you.

a gem of a of pub/restaurant to find by chance superb quality food at reasonable prices with good friendly service

Had an nice meal here together with 5 other adults. Everyone enjoyed the starters, main meal and dessert. It was quiet that evening, and the service was prompt and proper. The price was right. Nice pint of the local brew too. Otter beer. This is a cosy old pub with a bright and airy new extension. Something for everyone. I'll go again next time I'm in Devon.

The food here was good, but wouldn't go so far as to say the best in Plymouth. I had the fillet steak which was delicious but other people in my group were disappointed by their choices. They specialise in Greek food but there was no Greek sweet on the menu. It was very busy even though it was a Wednesday night. The decor is odd, the dining experience could be greatly improved if they could modernise it a little. The staff were very good and attentive. The cost of my steak was about £16.00 and bottle of red wine was £13.00, sweets were £4.50.

Do not be put off by the outside, as inside you will be able to enjoy 'michelin star' food accompanied by some excellent wines, which are both at reasonable prices. That day we got soaked (Wed 9.7.08) going to an all day conference. The highlight was our first visit to Bistro One. When next visiting Plymouth, I'll be trying other dishes on the menu, even though the beef was as good as one could wish for, cooked to perfection.

6 of us went to The Leandra on a Sunday evening as a spur of the moment thing, it was difficult finding a restaurant open on Sunday evening! We were very pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent with very attentive and friendly staff, the place had a good atmosphere and was busy. The food was very reasonably priced (I paid £9.99 for 3 courses) and tasty!

Very good pub with food to match, great to sit outside and watch the world go by. Nice decor, good beer and a mix of locals and tourists. Have visited six or so times and will be visiting frequently in the future.

Anchor Inn The – Sidmouth

Visited twice on a recent visit to Sidmouth, once for a drink and the experience was so pleasant we ate there the following evening. Very much a locals pub but you are immediately welcomed and included (if you wish) in the banter, good wholesome food and large portions, wish I lived nearby, it would be my local.

Swan Inn – Sidmouth

After a few tries at dining here we finally ate with friends last week. We all love good seafood and had the Bistro Seafood Meze which comprised Mussels Oysters, Scallops, marinated Octopus and Squid, Crevettes and Clams. Great value at £36 for two persons washed down with some great Spanish Blanco from Calatayud. We all stayed on to enjoy the puds and cheeses that included, Lemon Sylabub with Sherrry and ginger Biscotti and Lemon and Treacle Tart, lovely they were too. Will return in summer to have a go at Lobster! Can't wait. John and Betty

Had a glorious meal and a great night's entertainment on Saturday. Mark Hix was in the kitchen with Mitch, such a great atmosphere and food to die for. This is definitely being included on my favourites list. Its a venue that feels comfortable, relaxed and inviting on the one hand but has a menu to rival the best food in the UK let alone Devon.
