Half Moon Inn The – PaigntonThis is the best pub food in the Ilfracombe area by a country mile. Quality and consistency from Simon are signs of an excellent chef. Barbara serves an excellent pint of real ale
Hele Billys – IlfracombeVery disappointing. our evening food tasted as if it was reheated from lunchtime. We wont be returning
Yum Sing Cantonese Restaurant – TorquayTried this restaurant when it first opened and it was great, tried it again a few months later and the service and food were poor. Decided to go for lunch to see if things had improved and they have not - terrible food and terrible service. I would not have minded if the place was busy but there was only 3 other tables, it took the waitress 15 minutes from taking my order to come back and say my dish was out of stock and then another 25 minutes to produce the worst baguette I have tasted, tasteless limp bacon with brie that was just out of a fridge and a splodge of cranberry sauce - the best bit was the crisps that accompanied it, my OHs meal was no better, over cooked scampi and chips served with peas and some Caesar salad! It is such a shame the food is so bad as the decor of the restaurant is really nice. It was once a good place to eat but is certainly somewhere I will not visit again.
Fishbone Restaurant and Bar – PlymouthTried this restaurant when it first opened and it was great, tried it again a few months later and the service and food were poor. Decided to go for lunch to see if things had improved and they have not - terrible food and terrible service. I would not have minded if the place was bust but there was only 3 other tables, it took the waitress 15 minutes from taking my order to come back and say my dish was out of stock and then another 25 minutes to produce the worst baguette I have tasted, tasteless limo bacon with brie that was just out of a fridge and a splodge of cranberry sauce - the best bit was the crisps that accompanied it, my OHs meal was no better, over cooked scampi and chips served with peas and some Caesar salad! Fishbone Restaurant and Bar – PlymouthReading through a local paper I came across a 2-courses for £5 offer and thought I'd give it a try. Having previously tried some of the Times or Telegraph's similar promotions I was not sure what to expect. Here was a very tasty menu with some great British classics, such as homemade Sheppard's Pie followed by one of my old time favourites; Baked Apple. I can only say very delicious! (You can decide between starter and main course or main course and dessert for £5.00, but it had to be dessert for me!) I believe the promotion runs until the end of April and I shall certainly be returning for this one.
Barrel O’Beer – SeatonI have followed graham the head chef around for the last four years, and have to say it has always been first class. The food is always to the highest of standards. I just wanted to say thank you for looking after us the other evening. You haven't lost your touch.
Halfway House Inn The – TavistockThis is our second visit in 3 years whilst on holiday in Devon and we actually went out of our way this time to visit the Rydon Restaurant, the staff are very friendly(Husband and wife). Plenty to choose from and specials on the board I personally would recommend the sea bass and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. 9/10
Rydon Inn and Restaurant – HolsworthyJust returned from this restaurant and the food was excellent!!! Although as a sole diner I would have liked a little more attention, although there was a large party dining at the same time. Would definitely try this restaurant again, hopefully next time I would get a little more attention.
Zeus – PlymouthThis place is quite enchanting. The setting is wonderful. If you eat there as we did you can walk off all the superb food along the beautiful Teign. Can recommend it 100%. Go and try it then you can write your review too!
Fingle Bridge Inn – ExeterMy two friends and I had a meal on 02/02/08 which was a Saturday night. We were lucky enough to be seated straight away, and it was immediately obvious that we would be in for a great night. The smells were amazing and we couldn't order our food quick enough!! We opted for the sampler meals (along with a couple of other dishes) which meant we all got to share a little of everything. All of the dishes were wonderful, as was the tolberone fondue we have for dessert (with fresh fruit and marshmallows to dip in!). Price was really reasonable - under £30.00 for 3 of us (including a bottle of wine). I have to say it is the best meal I have had in a long time (and I eat out twice a week on average). In fact it was so good, it inspired me to write an online review (which I've never done before!!). I would DEFINITELY recommend this place and hope to return soon (even though I live in Birmingham).
The Terrace Tapas & Wine Bar – IlfracombeThis is fine dining at its very best, and in a beautiful location overlooking the River Dart. Chef Malcolm Wybrow cooks all food to order using fresh ingredients and the best Devon meat, fish and seafood. For starters, try the pan fried scallops with smoked bacon, garlic butter and a hint of cream, or the salad of smoked duck and oranges, or one of the many choices of starters and main courses from the specials board - which carries a wide choice of the best of the daily fish catches. For the main course, my daughter had roasted rump of Dartmoor Lamb with a red onion and wine gravy, which was as sweet and tender as you would expect lamb to be; my son enjoyed a traditional Surf n Turf, served with massive king prawns and I had melt in the mouth medallions of Exmoor Venison served with a cranberry and redcurrent compote, perfectly poached pear and parship crisps, which were far superior to anything you can buy. The kids were too full to eat anything but ice cream for dessert, but I couldn't resist the amaretto cheesecake on an amaretto biscuit base, Malcom's own creation. All courses were served by Malcom's wife Karen, a cook in her own right, who was extremely attentive and delighted the kids by calling them "sir" and "madam". We all agreed this was the best meal we had ever tasted. Sails is just to the edge of the centre of town, near Bayard's Cove. Dartmouth is known for its fine food, but Sails has to be among the very top restaurants in the town.
Sails Restaurant – Dartmouththe best pub there is in the world, everyone is so friendly and very welcoming. the best drinks i have had in a life time.
Poltimore Arms – ExeterWe had a wonderful lunch here before Christmas. Excellent home cooked food, good size portions and personal service. Good value. Good parking. Plan to go back there.
Talaton Inn, The – ExeterIn this day of theme restaurants, e.g. Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, or fast food outlets such as KFC, Burger King, etc., the only place to get traditional British cuisine, as far as I can make out, is the British Pub. Not every pub will serve food, and some seem to range from sandwiches only, through pies only to several course meals. The attraction of pub meals, is not just the food, but the ambience of the place. There is the informality you do not find in a standard restaurant, and the comely and relaxed atmosphere you do not find in a fast food restaurant. The northmore Arms is the epitome of all that is good in local English pubs. Friendly staff, cracking grub and an outside loo to boot! This is a must for every weary traveller!
Northmore Arms – Okehamptonfriendly relaxed family pub / restaurant, food surprisingly good at reasonable price, only gripe apple sauce wasn't tart. Will definitely visit again.
Bishop John De Grandisson Inn – TeignmouthEveryhting good you have ever heard about the Traditional British Pub!!!! Proper Beer, proper food, proper prices. I visit everytime I am anywhere near the area.
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonSmall friendly pub with large open fire and warm atmosphere. Food is excellent for quality, quantity, presentation and cost. Food menu is varied and there should be something for everyone. Real ales are the order of the day straight from the barrel. Cider also on tap. Try it - you won't be disappointed!
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonSunday Menu: 2 courses, £31; 3 courses, £39.50.
