Saxtys – BrixhamThe Northmore Arms is pretty much the perfect country pub. It is about the size of my front room with ceilings so low that anyone above 6ft 3in would probably have to duck. The beer is all local ale and is in the barrel not on tap, there are locals at the bar (mainly farmers, sometimes with there sheepdogs) all with their own tankards. The atmosphere is brilliant, all you could ever want from a country pub. The cooking is all homemade and delicious (particularly the steak and kidney pudding). You get proper pub helpings and low pub prices. All in all it is just about the best pub experience i have ever had not to mention the classic sloping garden and the outside toilet. I would recommend it to anyone and will visit as often as possible myself. If you go i can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Northmore Arms – OkehamptonNicest Indian restaurant ever! i now go weekly without fail! DELICIOUS!
Shapla Balti Cuisine – PlymouthI have fallen in love and I don't care who knows it!!! Wagamama's provides a solution to healthy but super quick food for any time of the day! The informal atmosphere makes it perfect for meeting with friends and alike. I wouldn't recommend it for large parties such as a work do as booking is not an option so getting seated may be a problem, i'd suggest meeting earlier than the usual dinner time rush for such occasions, all together though, two thumbs up!
Wagamama – ExeterWe went there for my Partners 40th - 2 nights ago. I had booked a table for 6 at the "Pub" across the road (left disappointed). At the last minute ran across to the "Jasmine" - trying to find somewhere to accommodate our guests for dinner. The owner of "Jasmine Restaurant" fitted us in at the last minute - no table booked without any hassle. They are very very hospitable and nothing was too much hassle! The food was brilliant and to a very high standard. At the end of the evening after our dinner - they dimmed the lights and brought out my Fiancée? Birthday cake with candles and played "Happy Birthday" - sung by Chinese children from CD. They made our evening perfect and could not have asked for better! A brilliant service and very highly recommended. You won't be disappointed! Tx for a wonderful evening!
Jasmine Restaurant – YelvertonCuba has a brilliant vibe and being sounded by student accommodation it is busy most days of the week. Open till 4 in the morning! Features great live performances in the upstairs bar and a good variety of music being played downstairs! (Not to mention the pole dancing challenges involving alcoholic prizes!) A++
CUBA – PlymouthHaving just moved to the area we came across the Puffing Billy by chance and discovered a gem! We have been three times in the last few weeks and have not been disappointed - we don't plan to tell too many people as we find it hard to get a table now! Excellent choice of food and wonderful service!
Puffing Billy Inn – TopshamWill certainly make a point of eating here again when we next visit Brixham.
No. 15 – BrixhamThis is a really nice bistro in a beautiful village. The food could be from Kings Road, SW3 - it has a varied, home cooked menu, well presented and regularly changing. White table cloths, big wine glasses and trendy food. Very Good!
Rockleigh House – WoolacombeWe tried Church House Inn Stokenham, on the recommendation of friends. We thought the food excellent, the new french chefs Tarte Flette was the best we had eaten since holidaying in St. Jean de Luz in 2003. No other region we visited in France could produce anything that good, until our visit to this out of the way inn.
Church House Inn – KingsbridgeA very tasty lunch chosen from the comprehensive choice on the 'today's special' board. Very pleasant staff and good prompt service. Will go again !
White Hart Inn – ExeterA new experience not to be missed.
Ashburton Arms – KingsbridgeBravo for simplicity. Out with the fancy stuff and in with the real stuff. Plenty of understanding of what's good and how to cook it here. Difficult to choose but choose we did and wolfed down some brilliant Scallops with Bacon, Oysters, Gurnard (with Carpetbagger Sauce no less) and Salmon with a Tandoori crust. Fab. Tarte au Citron completed a lovely Autumn supper. Same goes for the well-chosen wines at modest mark-ups. Get down there!
Bistro One – PlymouthI am a committed Bistro One regular. This has got to be THE place in town for good fresh local produce. Always friendly, always a smile and always the best food and wine, lunch or dinner. A happy refuge from a world full of mediocrity.
Bistro One – PlymouthWent here for a meal last fri and even though they were down on staff we were treated very well didn't wait long either lovely meal and beautiful 16th C building adapted tastefully.
Himalayan Spice – PlymouthFantastic pub with a great atmosphere, friendly locals and a separate restaurant with an extensive home cooked menu. Amazing food at very affordable prices. They are very child friendly and attentive too - highly recommended
Green Dragon The – TorringtonThis is a bizarre place - very old pub set down behind a reasonable modern housing burb. Food is nice, staff are friendly and there is a garden which is great to eat outside whilst distracting the kids! Good place to go for family lunch - not my first choice for a romantic meal though.
Court Farm Inn – Newton AbbotThis restaurant is always busy, occasionally you are lucky to get a table - that in itself says something. We discovered Lanterns thanks to Plymouthian friends, and am delighted to say we've returned many times since. Good food at a good price, with friendly staff serving as fast as chefs can cook - can't ask for more.
Lanterns Kebab and Steak House – PlymouthRoasted topside of beef, Slow-cooked belly pork or Homemade nut roast served with all the trimmings, £16.95.
Sunday Menu: 2 courses, £31; 3 courses, £39.50.
