The Souk had a fantastic atmosphere, for a minute I thought i was really in Marakesh! I tried loads of different vegetarian mezze which all tasted equally fabulous. I followed them with some orange cake and a mint tea and I certainly left completely satiated - with the food and the atmosphere, and a little heady from the good wine and the apple sheesha that i followed my meal with . Cant wait to go back -

I have eaten at Yukisan several times and unlike other restaurants the food was sublime on each occasion, we have introduced our 5 year old son to the restaurant and he now asks for sushi for dinner all the time!!! The lunchtime menu is very good too and the bento boxes delicious.

After hearing great things about this place we had to visit. We were told it was expensive, well if a three course lunch for £16 for great food, service and place to dine is expensive what? cheap? Great local produce cooked to perfection! Served in a relaxed but professional manner. All in all a great venue, Can't wait to visit again or try their new venture the 'barbican kitchen'

Tanners Restaurant – Plymouth

Lunch is superb there - when its open! Successfully got to try the much acclaimed vegetarian food on the 3rd visit 2 weeks back. Delicious mango lassi too. Have since tried to go back for more (twice)- to no avail. Must ring to make sure the place is open.

The Cook Island was an ideal stop off point travelling from the Beach at Woolacombe to Ilfracombe and the food and service was good here and an added advantage was a children's game room along with pool table

Barbican Kitchen

Fantastic food & atmosphere. The Tanners have got it right again with the style of service & food, knowledgeable staff who were very friendly & only to happy to help. Would recommend it to any one but would advise you to book in advance as it gets very busy, cant wait till my next visit.

Probably consistently the best restaurant in Kingsbridge. Needs to vary it's menu a little.

My Husband and I visited the tapas bar last weekend on a night away trip to ilfracombe (the tapas bar was recommended to us by our B&B). I am Spanish & have lived in London for 3 years & have not had such good authentic tapas since moving here, the Gambas Pil Pil was perfect & such good value for money as was the the Albarino Wine. The service was also very special they employ spanish waitresses on university holiday to help them in the restaurant & also to help the girls improve their english, (which must be commended as most people would not be bothered to put themselves out!) I look forward to returning to Ilfracombe very soon, not only for the beautiful scenery but to eat at the Tapas Bar for home from home cooking.

I am truly surprised at the suggestion that the menu was small. I took my wife and a friend there in early July, 2006 and was offered an extensive a la carte or chef's special menus. Will certainly go again. Although pricey, the food experience was wonderful

The Mason’s Arms – South Molton

Dick & Jean who run this place are the loveliest of hosts, the food is very interesting and beautifully served. My wife lives in London, and when she is down here this is her favourite eatery.

Food was great, my wife and parents had a very good time, would recommend anyone to go to the castle it is a fantastic place, beautiful

We have visited the Manor on many occasions and the food is always excellent. Set in the beautiful Teign Valley the Manor is only a small place and they have a lovely beer garden. They have an extensive menu, generous portions and very reasonable prices. I am a fussy eater and I find it hard to make a decision on what to order as there are so many things that I like, which is very rare when I go out. The garlic bread really is the best.

Manor Inn – Exeter

We had dinner there last August 05. The food was absolutely gorgeous, very well presented. Yummy puddings! The service is a bit slow, prices = expensive. Consider it a treat - but the food was very nice!

Elephants Nest Inn – Tavistock

Fantastic dinner in a beautiful setting. Loved the idea that the food is locally produced and absolutely seasonal.

Bovey Castle – Newton Abbot
Buckland-Tout-Saints

I loved it here lovely scenery all around and a gorgeous meal what more could anyone want?

Lunched there today. My generous portion of lime and chilli quid served with a salad and fantastic salsa - simply delicious!! It wasn? busy and the smiling waitress was attentive but not overly so (which was great!). My partner had warm duck salad as starters, minute steak with béarnaise sauce and the fussy eater enjoyed it all! We were so full but were tempted with the vanilla creme brulle which we shared. It wasn? too sweet and the texture was just right. Will definitely be back.

Quay 33 – Plymouth
The Souk

Visited this on a Friday night (be sure to book ahead). The souk tries to evoke the atmosphere of the Moroccan souks. Dimmed light, tables and chairs close together, baskets with fruit and veg, waiter wearing a fez. The food was astonishingly good: do try the mezze. The service was friendly and warm. As a desert you can have a sheesha, which alone is reason enough to pay a visit to this restaurant. Only one minor issue: its in a new bland building, which does not look very inviting.

Stephen Giles

Superb food in relaxing surroundings. Well behaved dogs are welcome guests.
