Clinton Arms – TorringtonWe had 8 mezes between 4 of us plus the 'local' beer. The food was very tasty, fresh and varied. It is wonderful to have something like this in Plymouth. Our only criticism is that the portions were a little small. 8 dishes between four with pitta bread should have been enough but we were still hungry. Some of the dishes, e.g. Felafel or baby spinach have three pieces on them when four would have been better (and easier to share). The orange cake dessert is a must; this was a very generous portion and so filled the gap. The cost of £7 per head for 2 mezes and a drink is good but upping the portions (even at a slight increase in cost) would be better.
Had a great meal with nothing coming from the freezer. Everything on the plate was fresh! Will be going on a regular basis.
Balfour Arms The – Sidmoutha family run restaurant, which we have used for 10 years while on holiday in North Devon. Everything about the place itself, the food, the atmosphere and the friendly staff makes it an ideal place to eat, drink and unwind. If you are in the Bideford area, it is well worth a visit.
Country Cousins – BidefordA table in this little bistro is often hard to get but our luck was in when we dined in May. We decided to have the Bistro Meze between us (with a lovely bottle of Sauvignon Blanc) then we followed with Red Mullet and Gurnard respectively. We shared a gluten-free Polenta cake to finish and some excellently sourced coffee. Our evening just flew by as we enjoyed every morsel. Bravo for simplicity and cool jazz to boot. Do what we did and book for a lovely supper.
Bistro One – PlymouthWe went to Hooks for my friend's birthday and found our night absolutely lovely. It is definitely busy restaurant; the atmosphere is lively and keeps you entertained all night. We had to wait for the meal for a while though. We all had steaks and were surprised by truly huge portions. Service was very good, and they made our night by giving a picture of our party at the end. Will definitely recommend the place for having a fun party.
Hooks – TorquayGreat food and would of been perfect if it hadnt of taken 45 minutes to be seated as the waiter forgot about us and then decided to ignore us. Had to wait ages for someone to take our order, in the end gave up with the pudding, Not the friendliest of places, actually they are rather rude, the Waiter obviously ignored us as the manager asked us who welcomed us in and it was him who forgot us! wont go back but would of if this hadnt happened because its very nice food
Mahabharat Balti House – TorquayI don? normally eat out but on me and my husband decided to have a change and i am so glad we did the meat was succulent and tasty if you don? go your missing out.
La Gendarmerie – Ilfracombewe have never has a bad meal here, it's ideal for pre theatre meals, and ideally situated
Leandra The – PlymouthI love the colour, smells and amazing culture. Dining with a difference. Well done!
This restaurant had a brilliant, lively atmosphere-great for a work night out, the tequila bar upstairs is excellent too, a little expensive though. But really good fun.
Arribas – PlymouthWe loved hooks but took the kids and found they didn? really have a children? menu so had to order and pay for adult meals that they couldn? manage....I would not recommend this restaurant for families....but it is great otherwise...I will be going again but without the kids
Hooks – TorquayWow! Best fish and chips I have ever had in a modern clean bistro environment. Five hungry golfers (played both Saunton courses) had fish and chips, desserts, delicious coffee and 2 bottles of wine, a Sauvignon blanc and a Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine. £14 per head. This establishment does everything right, from the welcome to the immaculately clean washrooms and I highly recommend it.
