The Hare and Hounds – ColchesterWe arrived at a busy time having booked a table. We were told it would be a wait for food but were able to order quickly and had no longer than normal wait for the food. Absolutely delicious main course, beetroot gravlax, excellent staff and overall very good experience.
The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterThree of us had a lovely lunch. The food was delicious and tasty and the service excellent. We will return having had two good experiences.
The Hare and Hounds – ColchesterI come here regularly to meet with friends, and always enjoy our lunch or cuppa & cake when we're here. The food is always of excellent quality, presented nicely and served by friendly, attentive staff. The menu has a varied choice of 'mains' options with plenty of delicious desserts and cakes for afterwards. With both a pleasant indoor and outdoor seating area available, you can choose where you wish to be, but both have a lovely relaxed feel about them. A lovely environment for a meet up with friends.

The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterA lovely ladies lunch. We had a table in the restaurant garden, which is a sunny sheltered spot. Beautiful climbing roses surround and the furniture is very comfortable. The ladies who looked after us were very friendly and accommodating. The lunch menu is great and competitively priced with something for everyone. Our little party of 3 had a great catch up and they even have provence rosé!
The Bakers Arms – IngatestoneWe went to Spoons for our son’s 12th birthday. We a mixture of vegetarians, adventurous, and fussy eaters, and everyone found food they could eat and thoroughly enjoyed. For the cost of the meals I believe we had our money’s worth with everyone returning for 2nd and 3rds. Our son enjoyed a combination of Chinese and Indian cuisine, and had plenty of choice - even trying a few new dishes too. Our daughter who is a very fussy vegetarian, tried a few new courses as well as having a plate consisting of a strange concoction of pizza, noodles, chips and Yorkshire puddings! Everyone loved the choice of desserts too, and even being “well and truly stuffed” from dinner, they managed to find room for 2 small servings of desserts. The restaurant was clean and the food was hot and well stocked, and low dishes were quickly replenished. The staff could have been better with their customers - rather than greeting us in an expected manner we were promptly told to pay before we sat down. We wasn’t told how the service worked, but we soon worked it out. One member of staff kindly offered to remove a chair for me to fit my electric wheelchair at the table which was appreciated, rather than sitting at an end. We stayed for almost our whole 90min table allocated time (as stated on our online booking terms). After reading reviews prior to going I was slightly concerned, but I need not of worried - it was a very enjoyable evening and we’re looking forward to returning again in the near future.
Spoon World Buffet and Bar – BasildonLovely fresh food. A comfortable and pleasant environment. Efficient service.
The Ship Gidea Park – RomfordExpensive, dirty smelly toilets, sullen staff, a terrible experience will not be back.
Spoon World Buffet and Bar – BasildonGreat food and lovely staff
The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterGreat decor, great food. Staff friendly and polite. A bit pricey but what isn’t these days! 2025. Only point is the table spacing is way too small in places. But what you gonna do it’s a converted house! £10 for a margarita no?
Pieno-Lleno – SouthendThis was our first visit after having STOKED recommended to us by two fiercely vegan friends. AMAZING. Thoroughly impressed with the flavours and portion sizes. Not only do they provide incredible food, the setting was intimate yet casual, and the service was a delight. Cannot wait to go back.
Stoked Vegan BBQ – SouthendAbsolute lovely food, atmosphere and service at amazing prices. Staff were friendly. I would recommend.
The Bakers Arms – IngatestoneThe most perfect afternoon spent in the sunshine . Food was delicious - I will be back x
The Barn Garden Centre Cafe – ColchesterDelicious meal and friendly atmosphere. We tried all the starters and each of us had a different main, they were all really good so it was hard to choose. Shame we didn’t have room for dessert! We had a few cocktails too and they were some of the nicest I’ve had in a long time. Can’t wait to go back with different people.
