Stoli

This is a smashing proper pub, with food well deserving the gastropub label but not gastropub prices. Just into January with snow everywhere & the place is packed with locals. We enjoyed Berrow Ale & a great Sauvignon Blanc. The most ridiculously huge, really tasty1/2 shoulder of lamb and Lyme bay scallops with celeriac puree that were sublime, also great staff & great service.

Had a stunningly good lunch here recently. Rarely do I go to a restaurant and find choosing difficult but here there is so many appealing dishes I did have trouble. I opted for Tempura of Monkfish with a delicious dip to start followed by partridge which was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. For dessert I tried a taster plate of mini puddings which was too good. The service was exceptional, the staff engaged and passionate. If only I was local to the area, it is now my favourite restaurant.

My comment falls in to 3 distinct categories: 1) Four of us ate here on 26th October 2009. Two parents & 2 students. The food was good. A fair price. Clear descriptions on the menu. It all represented what I had seen on their website, and what appealed to us. 2) Less positive; within 5 minutes of being seated we had been asked twice if we were ready to order. Even allowing for my poor reading skills, I felt this was a bit quick. 3) The music was so loud we could not sustain a conversation. To this I add that we were also 'pushed' about ordering our next course(s). For the first time ever the bill arrived before I had time to ask for it. My main impression; come in eat, pay & leave so that we can re 'sell' your table. Will we go back: I leave you to decide?

Nice place for the start of a night out with friends, lively and fun. If you crave authentic Thai food then probably not for you...

I ate here at 10.10pm on Wednesday, September 9th, 2009. I am writing a partially negative review as the issue I have irritated me greatly. The venue itself was pleasantly laid out, the food was good and served promptly. However we were made to feel uncomfortable and hurried by our waitress. The last sit down was at 10.30pm, and we arrived at 10.10pm. Throughout the meal we were watched in close proximity by our waitress and she asked us two or three times if we were finished eating before we were done. Also, once we were done eating, my companion went to use the ladies' room and the waitress after maybe 5 minutes, went up to the ladies and knocked on the door to hurry her along. To add insult to injury, the waitress had the audacity to ask me when paying the bill by visa, if I wanted to add a gratuity. I feel that if I eat out and pay forty pounds for the experience, that I should not be herded in and out of the restaurant like cattle. Basically we were the only customers in the restaurant and we were plainly an annoyance to this waitress to be dealt with, as opposed to us being new and potentially regular customers. This has incensed me so much that I will not be eating at The China Orchid again.

A really great Traditional Village Pub. The curved bar encourages visitors to speak to each other as we did - not many of these left. Really nice home cooked food, comfortable fire place area and several traditional pub games - crib, darts, boule, skittles, poker to pass a few hours. For children there is an outdoor play area. Lovely beer garden and also an outdoor covered dining area. Keeps good Ales and the wine list is interesting also.

This is the best curry house in Exmouth, without a doubt. The staff are helpful and friendly, but, above all, the food is excellent. I have tried the other places in Exmouth for a good, hot Madras. None of them close to the Ganges. The meat is cooked well, not hard and dry, the Nan bread is fresh, the rice is sweet. This place is my favourite.

Hungery Man

i would only recommend to eat here if you don't feel hungry as the portions served are the meanest in the whole of the uk the excuse i was given for the tiny 16oz steak was because i asked for it to be well done it had shurnk so along with the 6 small chips and 3 tiny mushrooms 1 onion ring you leave very hungery when i told the waiter that this was only a snack . his responce was very good sir the chef is well known for his small portions.

I was taken to Rodeans last year for a celebratory meal for my 60th birthday, every detail was catered for, it was so special that I am taking my brother and his wife there for their silver wedding anniversary, because I know it will be all that could be wished for for a special event.

We normally eat in the other Harry's Bar on Longbrooke St, but when we heard the owners had opened a second one we had to go and take a look. The atmosphere is very calm, there's spanish/jazz style music playing at a subtle volume, which works really well with the dim lighting and candles in the lounge. The bartender made sure we were looked after before being seated and the cocktails were made with a level of care and attention we'd never seen before. When we were seated, the waitresses and the manager were very obliging, and the food was excellent. We managed to get a table of two on a busy Thursday night, so we advise booking! All in all a wonderful place to eat, Exeter's best kept secret!

Absolutely lovely little gastropub, great food such as pork belly and wonderful pates to start. I go there regularly with my family because its quiet and friendly. There's a wide selection of great wines and excellent service with a sense of humour. *****

Food was superb, nicely decorated and clean. Much better now with the new owners, tidy and real log fires. Definitely a MUST GO and EAT. Plenty of room for parking and friendly girls behind the bar and in the restaurant. Good selection of beer for the boys plus real ales.
